If you've enjoyed this, why not show this video to a friend or family member too? Smart plugs have a lot of different applications - in fact we might even make a video just on this topic one day - and people of all ages can benefit from them too.
2 minutes introduction, following by 2 minutes of self advertisement and finally at 6 minutes some useful information. Thanks mate it was very informative but also painful to get through the lot. Really practical final advice!
We're still working on getting the perfect formula Arkadiusz, we really appreciate your feedback. We try to keep our introduction section to under 1 minute these days! Let us know what you think of our latest videos?
Good review. As an all-HomeKit house, I always download the device’s app as backup. Oft times the Home app and/or Siri go stupid on me. Going into the device’s app rectifies the situation.
Thanks! To be fair, often there is some benefit to downloading the developer's app, but it's nice to know it's not needed. What other HomeKit devices to do you use regularly?
@@HeyTechi Thus far I have 3 iDevice sockets which I prefer over smart bulbs as the latter get expensive replacing when they burn out, couple iDevice smart plugs and 4 Mysa thermostats. Unlike the Nest and Ecobee, Mysa was the only HomeKit thermostat that controlled baseboard heaters commonly found here in Quebec, Canada. All these nicely controlled by HomePod minis.
Great question Aji - No, the MS110 does not, BUT the Meross MSS310 does. So make sure you get the right one for your needs! Thanks so much for watching, and sorry for the late reply!
A question that no one could answer me yet: Does this app only work when connected to the same WiFi or after the initial setup it will work from anywhere over the internet?
You can access and use the Meross smart plug and app from anywhere in the world, so long as you have access to the internet. You don’t need to be on the same WiFi connection. This is definitely the case when using the HomeKit edition of this smart plug; I can’t comment for Meross’ other non-HomeKit devices!
Good question - Meross don’t publish this information online, but a typical WiFi smart plug will use approximately 1w-2w per hour when the device it is plugged into is off. Thread, Zigbee and Z-wave devices typically use less than this, usually under 1w per hour
Interesting to hear about the 2.4 ghz. I'm no technophobe, but I was unaware of it. I've since discovered that mine is 5 ghz, although I think it may be both/possible to tweak it for pairing. Suffice it to say, that it took me well over 2 minutes to set it up via the Meross App (I'm using Alexa) and, in the end, I gave up and sent them straight back to Amazon, in exchange for their proprietary plug, which, although "chunkier" (and more expensive) was a breeze to set up. I wonder how many people, like me, are unaware of the 2.4 ghz thing, or what to do about it and end up giving up, in frustration. I've ordered two more (different brand) arriving today, but I'm expecting the same issues, but this time, will attempt the "fix" and will "split" my WiFi. If it doesn't work, I'll abandon the project, wait for the Amazon price to drop, or go on offer and stick with what I know will work!
You'd think in 2023, there would be a way to make smart devices work with any WiFi signal? But alas, not yet... Sorry to hear about your experience with this. I do wonder if other smart home providers make it intentionally difficult to use third party smart devices to promote their own though...? It's been a while since I used Alexa/Google, but I always had trouble with adding smart devices
Great idea Nigel - for me I regularly use the meross smart plugs to turn my television and fans on/off so it would be ideal to control your sound system!
This taught me absolutely nothing. I was looking for a non-nonsense, straight to the point tutorial on how to set a smart plug up. That should take two minutes, not 12.
@@HeyTechi Yes, I know. There used be a bug on the TH-cam app where it would sometimes keep the comment section from a previously watched video. Think it’s fixed now tho. I ended up buying one of these for my tv and it’s great.

Really in-depth review Steven! Good job!
Thanks JF! We do our best!
I plan on getting one of these, I currently use smart things. Will I have to have two apps or can I just getaway with the SmartThings app?
can you plug a multi outlet to it?
Great review :)
Thanks for watching every week CA, it's appreciated!

Can i schedule it to turn on/off any timeframe?
Yes absolutely - setting up schedules with this smart plug is very easy, and you can do it either through the Meross or Apple Home app

Even though it's cheap for the UK market, I still feel ripped off when the Americans get it so cheap! Great review though
Not sure why that is - it might well be a promotional price at the time of recording?
Does it have power consumption monitor feature?

@@HeyTechi is MSS310 homekit compatible?
Got to say, not sure I could cope with spotty wifi in a smart home - you need to get some decent extenders!
For sure! About to move house though, so hopefully the next house will have better connectivity!
Well not connecting for me … 😢

Thinking of buying these to make it convenient to turn off my Sonos surround sound system, Arc + 2 One sl’s and Sub gen 3. Has anyone done similar?
