Roy likes to characterise Ferguson as the big baddie in all of this, making more of his defamatory interview than Roy thought it merited. However he was calling out teammates in public as being shite and that is the sole preserve of the manager of a club. He shoulda fuckin well known better.

Shame we never heard what he said before that tape was destroyed on fergie's instructions, keane had been saying similar things for years before that, thing was he wasn't 34 with a broken foot and a dodgy hip, he was passed it by 2005, fergie should have handled it better

1 interview doesn't take back everything that happened.
Also this kind of thing happened with more than Keane, when someone who had been a soldier for the club for years left. Becks, Ince, Bruce, Rooney.
Fergie was a great manager, but this was one of his flaws

Say what you want about Ferguson's behaviour towards Keane at the end - he was proven 100% right in calling it a day with him. 3 years later he was lifting the European cup and Roy was long retired. Greatest manager and greatest captain in the history of the game.

True but those later years I don't think brought him the same level of gratification as the 90's-early 2000's when he had a true camaraderie with his players that at times almost seemed like a father-son dynamic, particularly with Roy. Players have since become increasingly more entitled, greedy and believing their own hype. The love of the game itself has taken a back seat. Ferguson caught the start of this new era in the premier league and watching those later seasons, he looked visibly more fatigued and not as invested as he was in previous years. Man U were still cleaning up but I reckon if you asked him, he'd tell you his favorite period as gaffer was 1995-2002

Kinda funny that Roy's demise was brought about by having a pop at players he believed weren't up to the standards of the 99 team. But 3 years after his departure, Utd won the champions league again.
You'd wonder is there more to it. Like Saipan, did he engineer these bustups on some level, to give himself or others a reason for him to get out of a situation he wanted out of.
