      Using a lux meter to measure HID light sources is like asking a color-blind person to pick between a red car and a blue car.

    Bought and installed Philips xv2 because of all the tests, and love them. I cant staaand blue lights because i want to see well, and i want others to see as well. No surprise the 2 warmest white were brighter. Plus is a more usable color and doesnt blind everyone else on the road

      Angelo Mendez thanks bro, I’ve seen that vid back when it came out now I just received my 5.0 last week and going to retrofit when i get a new headlights. I think the 5.0 lens might have a thing to do with why the CBI was brighter than the CBB but cant say for sure until we have more comparison vids with basic settings thay is on 5.0 with an XB35 ballasts which is what we normally get by default

    Well, what about the brightness in the foreground, below the hot spot? That is what I'm most interested in, as well as lateral illumination. From your results, it appears that the Night Breaker Laser has more foreground illumination than the XV2.
    Also, my Enclave uses D3S, rather than D2S. Should these results translate to D3S as well? Thanks.

    I have a 2012 Infiniti G37xS Coupe with HID ballasts D2S; I wanted a brighter and bluer output than my OEM bulbs (probably Sylvania) I tried bulbs from Lumens and had nothing but problems from on the passenger side. In 5 years I went through 5 bulbs because as soon as the weather cools off and the ambient air temperature drops below the 70's especially down to the 45 - 60 F the light flickers and eventually turns off even though the go on normally. My local garage who sold me the Lumens can't figure out why the Lumens fail only on the passenger side. I suspect that they even caused a ballast to fail and I had to replace the ballast on the same passenger side a couple years ago. I want a bulb that will last, will not flicker when I go over a bump or go off completely while I'm driving. I want a bulb that is a brighter and blueish in color. I was thinking of the OSRAM XENARC Cool Blue 7000K 66240CBB-HCB. My question is given all the problems I had with the aftermarket Lumens (and they're not cheap at $75 ea..used to be $35 ea...tariffs?) So would you recommend the Morimoto or the Philips in the 6k to 7k?
    or to stick with OSRAM (Sylvania). Even my very patient Infiniti dealer's mechanic whom I trust said to stick with factory; when we installed the factory bulbs I didn't have any issues at any ambient temperature: No flickering (especially when going over bumps) and the bulbs stay on. He was right. So it looks like the resistance is a bit issue with the Infiniti regarding OEM vs Aftermarket bulbs. (35 watt. )

    Why does the (H1 XTR Philips XV2) have a light output of 1050 while the d2s Philips XV2 1680? aren't they the same bulb but the difference in the size only?
    Hope to hear the answer from you soon! Thanks again.

    • @RetrofitSource
      @RetrofitSource  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, but I didn't get you. Do you mean whether a reflector or projector? I believe both H1 XV2 and D2S XV2 were tested on projectors so I still thinking about why there is a huge difference between them.

    • @RetrofitSource
      @RetrofitSource  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      H1 are tested in a 2.5 inch projector, D2S is a 3 inch projector. This larger projector increases the light output.

    You should break in the bulb before testing them. HID bulb do improve after a few hours of run time. I was just reading about it, with picture proof, concerning the Philips XV2:
    www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/761231-Tax-Day-Special-on-ALL-NEW-PHILIPS-X-tremeVision-Gen2-150-HID-Xenon-Bulbs
    By the way, actual Kelvin rating for those Osram bulbs, from Osram’s own specs sheets (and not the BS “up to” written on the packages) are:
    Ultra Life : 4100K
    Original Classic: 4100K
    Original: 4300K
    Night Breaker Laser: 4600K
    Cool Blue Intense: 4800K
    Cool Blue Advance: 6000K
    Cool Blue Boost: 6000K

    • @RetrofitSource
      @RetrofitSource  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a great question and before I give you the reasoning as to why discrepancies in tests like this can appear let me assure you that we did the test and reported 100% honstely what we've seen. There are no tricks being done to skew results. With that being said let me give you somethings to think about:
      We did not do these tests in laboratory settings, but more of a real-world comparison. The maximum brightness may be different from test to test because the tests are done in different spaces with different ambient lighting, different lux meter tools, a different headlight unit, and performed at different distances. You need to remember that a Lux reading in and of itself does not mean anything - but a lux reading compared to other lux readings, in one controlled environment, is what is important. You need to consider all the factors for each of the tests you're looking at when determining what the results mean. If one bulb performed better at closer distances instead of longer distances, it means it doesn't have the concentration of another bulb. If One bulb performed better in headlight assembly A but worse in headlight assembly B, then that should be a part of your decision making process - which headlight are you using? I hope this helps!
