If I remember correctly that’s actually something they changed for the series. In the books Verena was the priestess who cursed him, and she did it so she could have an infinite food supply. The awful wrong that he had done was have a mental breakdown and go berserk killing the servants in the castle when he was first cursed. He hadn’t actually assaulted the priestess. Again though that could be me misremembering the book. Still an interesting story either way though.
@@NicodeamusTheLost No. Vereena is a Bruxa (a type of vampire who in world of Neverland is not able to do magic exept like levitation or that hypnotic charm or limited shape shifting). Plot twist is that priestess summoned Vereena to torment Nivelen and eventually kill him (also she made Vereena to be one on whom the curse holds) but because of already mentioned love Vereena could not complete her full mission
Personally, I think this story is a lot better in the book. Nivelline kills Vereena instead of Geralt, since she proves to be too much for him, and she has started to kill and feed off the travelers that visit Nivelline.
I literally just read that part the other day and was gonna mention that. And just how different the scene felt, and how the idea behind the curse felt more tragic in the book
@@gyroownstheworld yea I mean she's a Bruxa. But she was going to enslave Nivellen and put him under her spell so she could use the Mansion and surrounding area as hunting grounds.
For people that didn't watch, she was killing people which is why Geralt didn't second guess killing her. They were in love sure, but it was affecting innocent people
Nivellen's story is literally a retelling of Beauty and the Beast, just in a more Eastern European way (meaning macabre and with a tragic ending). He raped a priestess who turned out to be a servant of a cult of magic users. She killed herself, but before doing so, she cursed him that his physical appearance would match his monstrous deeds - a curse only to be broken by the loss of a true love. Vereena is a Bruxa who takes up with him at some point, he initially thinks she's actually a naiad. Basically he did a very bad thing to priestess and she cursed him, when Gerald killed the vampire lady it broke the curse cause he was in love with the vampire lady and she was in love with him
Think of it as a self fulfilling prophecy. Nevillen did some bad things in his past and was cursed for it. He was young when this happened so didn't understand the stipulations of the curse. Essentially one way for his curse to be lifted was if he found true love and lost it. "Love and blood." Ironically, while Vereena was using Nev for her own reasons, they were both "monsters" and she did genuinely gain love for him and he for her since he wasn't so lonely anymore.
