To be clear this was a learning exploration to dissect and re build this bag. Now I know. Next one I’ll make all the hardware and adjust to my custom size 💪🏼

I always learn more by screwing up or watching someone else screw up than I do by seeing it done right the first time.

Same! Watching something go perfectly gives you barely any information on what the important aspects to pay attention to are and what’s recoverable and what’s not.

For the extra holes, make some little leather Diresta pieces to put over them. Can even be riveted through the two end holes. Or just go to the leather store and get some little charms (made like post earrings and go through the leather).

I had a Juki LS-340 with a post. It was used by Mizuno in a mobile baseball glove repair van. I replaced the original clutch motor with a servo, and I think it could have sewed two 3/4" sheets of plywood together :) That thing was borderline scary when it was running wide-open.

I’m a leather worker and to deal with the glue not sticking to the finish side of leather problem it’s normal to scratch up the future glue area with an awl or sandpaper, I even do it on the flesh side most of the time. Also i use contact cement as my glue, it’s nice because you attach things they’re fully adhered and you can keep working without waiting for it to dry (although you do need to give 5-10 minutes before you attach stuff to let the cement get tacky) . Super great video, I didn’t really get how that bag hardware type worked until now

  •  ปีที่แล้ว +3

I am sure you could come up with some feature to rivet to theses extra holes like some outer/ inner pocket or patches...
I believe the H shape can be cut beforehand, and this means you don't need to stitch all the way to the bottom where the cardboard was getting in the way. Then the seam across is done by "opening the mouth" and aligning the cut edges. With thinner material (fabric) you could even open the seam allowances of the side seam before stitching across as well.

I work building sets for theater. What makes me sad the most is not having the money to build a prototype to learn and then build the official one. I say that because it's never a normal door, it's a door that turns into a bed and then into a bathroom... And it still needs to be light and detachable. lol

Regarding your discussion on inability to source the metal hardware pieces; when you disassembled your sacrificial bag, did you take measurements of the metal pieces so you could fabricate them in future builds.? Since the embossed logo was fading fast, you should have included the scrap that you embossed as a luggage tag that could be threaded through one of the straps before buckling it together.
Thanks for sharing this insightful video. Wishing you and your family a blessed week, gentle weather, nourishing rain and restful evenings. Peace Jimmy
