    Thanks for the comparison. I find the Xiaomi photos better in all instances. Better black levels, contrast and a filmatic feel. Vivo photos, to me anyway, is like pushing the shadow bar all the way to the right in LR. Sometimes you don't need that bright. Anyway keep up the good work.

      I agree that the vivo can be too bright, but the biggest issue I have with the xiaomi is that often things that are easily visible in reality aren't with Xiaomi, and colours are of by some margin, and the colours is for me the biggest thing.

      @@ThroughJermainesLens I'm in favor of the 13 as well.
      Night is Night, I don't want to have day time feel when taking Night photo's.
      It's a matter of taste U guess.
      Leica took it to a more natural setting.

      I had a X90 Pro+ but quickly sold it. Had to work against the camera too often with EV -1 to -2 because it made everything look like day shots without any contrast. I really hated it. Much happier with my 13 Pro.

    The Leica Vibrant mode on the Xiaomi 13 Pro can bring more saturation (colours) and brightness to the photo. In this video, you used Leica Authentic, so the results may vary. Leica Authentic brings more contrast and less saturation, giving it a more vintage look, which not many people appreciate it but I do :)

    Thanks for the great video. I personally prefer the Xiaomi because of its more realistic look. 😅 Vivo just looks too bright and not realistic, it looks like it sometimes blows out everything. :/ But they both take very great photos. I prefer the Xiaomi personally

    • @ThroughJermainesLens

      Hi ^^ Thank you, I can agree with it sometimes being too bright, I will however copy my comment I did to someone else ^^ about why I say the vivo is better and why xiaomi needs an update for their 13 Pro ^^
      Ok so I fully get your take, and yes till a degree I am fully with you, that is also why i said that in cases the Vivo can be too bright (punchy counts under that well in a way)
      But the Xiaomi for me has without a doubt issues, for instance that shot at 1:52, much of the building isn't visible, while with my naked eye I could see it pretty clearly, and then we have shots like at: 2:15 there I would say the clear issue is the colour, while with more shots it showcases the problem in terms of colour, there it is really clear, the Vivo is a BIIITTT more yellow then reality, but the Xiaomi is just white, where that wasn't the scene.
      And of course we have editing if you wish to do that, with the Vivo that will be made far easier because there is more in the shot.
      So therefore I would say that the Vivo does a much better job.
      though I fully agree that in some cases it loses in terms of the night vibe, the feel of it.
      Thank you for your comment!

  • @azuDemagen
    @azuDemagen ปีที่แล้ว +19

    I agree with you on that Vivo's photos are more versatile since brighter image is easier to edit down, but there is limit to that as well. I usually prefer night photos to look like night, so overall I found Xiaomi to be closer to what I would want. There are a few examples in the video where you can clearly see the noise on Vivo, but not so much on Xiaomi. The white balance fails are disappointing though, hopefully they will improve that in the software by the time 13 Ultra rolls out. Knowing Xiaomi though... I guess we will see.
    By the way, I'm on mi11 Ultra right now and it is definitely a capable shooter. What I found to be lacking in night photos is light source handling - night mode tends to fail a lot in this regard and it is more reliable to shoot on locked pro mode.
    Great review overall, appreciate your effort!

    • @maxel7723
      @maxel7723 ปีที่แล้ว

      and so? You can lower brightness on Vivo but you can't add more detail to Xiaomi. The quality of night shots for Xiaomi is unacceptable considering its price. Xiaomi 13 pro is easily beaten by phone that were launched 2 or 3 years ago.

    I want to pin this comment because of comments I see, and maybe I didn't make it clear enough in my video, therefore making a pinned comment to clarify my thoughts about it.
    SO let's begin with why I say the Vivo at this moment wins, the Xiaomi's main problem is colours, my city is pretty warm, so yellow lights, but on the Xiaomi often those warm tones are turned into blue/cold tones, heck even almost white in 1 shot of the lights.
    Then when it comes to feel, I can understand that with night photography you want it to look like night, and I 100% agree with this, having that sense of night is important! it allows a night shot to look like well it is night, and often a comment I have about phones doing night photography is where the sky is almost daytime, which destroys the mood of the scene. And more often then not the Xiaomi is the clear winner here, the feeling of night is captured far better on the Xiaomi.
    But Xiaomi goes too far when it comes to the darkness. For instance the shot at 1:52, the colours inside the building much nicer and better on the xiaomi, not even a question there, BUT there is so much shadow that the building above it is almost invicble, where I could easily see it with my eyes, and I cannot rework that shot after it because that information isn't there.
    (again though inside the building much better job by Xiaomi even more so with the book case)
    and at 2:01, again here I have some comments, the vivo, yes a tad too bright, even more so on the right side of the picture, but in turn the colours are really off on the xiaomi, it doesn't look like that.
    and for me the biggest one is at 2:15 the lights are not like that at all, it is a yellow light source that somehow turned white, it wasn't the scene at all, where again I would say the vivo a bit too much on the tones, BUT it is closer to reality in terms of colour. The shot before that though at 2:12, that looks great on the Xiaomi, there the contrast looks realy nice.
    But the trend of the xiaomi removing the warm tones that are there are for me the biggest gripes, where with the vivo as I commented on in the video as well, it can be too bright, BUT I can turn it down easier then turning up the yellow warm feel the city has, because simply put the xiaomi didn't capture that.
    Hope this helps a bit with what I meant during the video, and that it gives a better insight on my thought process when it comes to the performance on the Xiaomi 13 Pro.

      Hey Buddy thanks for the comparison and this comment. I think I understand what you meant and your overall view about the two phone cameras. I think what you are trying to say is that Xiaomi images appears to be very similar to a raw photo, with the added extra cool colour temp in comparison to Vivo. I also know how hard it is to edit JPEG photo if the details aren’t there to begin with. Each phone has their own way to post process image after the shot is taken. I understand Xiaomi 13 pro is less aggressive with this approach which makes the image look boring but rather realistic, however after looking at these shots, I personally think Vivo post processing was done by an amateur who thinks boosting shadows and reducing the highlight to minimum would create fantastic image. I would also like to point out that the lens quality on Xiaomi seems to be far superior. Its handling light source very well with zero lens flare compare to Vivo which can be seen across all your images (example 4:52) . Regarding the shutter speed you have two choices, you can either pick a phone that gives you brighter image with less detail or slightly darker image with more detail. I would personally chose slightly darker image with more detail as my default night photo setting, and when I want to shoot bright clear image at night, I would put my phone on a tripod and lower the shutter speed manually. ✌

      @ThroughJermainesLens  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lookin4talentt Oh I fully get what you are saying that is why I made sure to pin this comment, easy for discussions and opinions about the difference overall.
      And I do agree, the Xiaomi does handle highlights well, and lens flare.
      for me just the biggest part stays that warm tone the city has is pretty much gone in all shots, and then here and there it is too dark. But that is also why I commented to someone that this phone has a lot of potentiol, it just needs a tweak for shots like that at 2:16, and 1:48, and some shots in between where the light simply was warm but xiaomi made it to cold. I will however say the more I look at the shot at 3:06 the more I like it on the Xiaomi. it's a bit flatter then reality, BUT you can easily change it on that shot. and at 2:10 again same, the more I look at it the better i find the image, the contrast is nice.

      Jermaine you're getting those results out of the Xiaomi 13 Pro because you're using leica authentic. If you're using leica vibrant. The shots would've looked better in lowlight. I know because I had the 12s ultra. In authentic mode I used to get darker images. With vibrant mode it was a completely different story. I think you need to retry using leica vibrant mode and you'll see a different results.

    @L0vac ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'd say 80-85% of night photos here are better on Vivo, but also some like 4:54 (almost looks bleached if you look at the left third of the building) are better on 13 Pro. Sky as well on some.
    Sure, it would be interesting to set the same settings via pro/manual settings. The reality is, we all like to point and shoot. That being said, think about how much do you photograph in low light, is it mostly bright etc. Mate 50 Pro is a respectable choice as well. Hope Xiaomi will extend exposure time in low light.
    At the end of day, it's amazing how far phones got in terms of photography. It got me to sell DSLR since I'm not a "pro reporter" but got tired of carrying a bag with camera body and optics for it. See a nice scene? When locked double press that power button and your camera is ready in a second. Click. Done.

    Thanks. I think you have pointed out the pros and cons of Xiaomi 13 pro well. Personally, think the camera performance is nothing special. You show here that the mi11 ultra beats it in lowlight. In daylight it's going to be more down to colours and style. Personally think the mi11 ultra has better video so the only areas I think where the 13 pro might be objectively definitely better is 2-4.9x zoom. However the photo taking experience is a lot better on the Xiaomi 13 pro. Much less shutter lag and the camera startup is much quicker. • @ThroughJermainesLens
      @ThroughJermainesLens  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't say "more natural" because often is misses the colour of the scene itself, it is bad at yellow lights that turn to warm blue lights which isn't the scenery in my city, it is mostly warm there (so yellow) BUT the vivo is too bright I do agree with that. And it is a comment I made a lot in the past as well about a lot of brands, the xiaomi 12 pro for instance did an amazing job with a short burts, but also had the colours correct, and that is mostly my nitpick in the shots, and sometimes as stated it can be simply too dark and contrasty when the scene isn't like that. (the darkness depends, and that is why I showed examples where I think the Vivo was too bright)

    • @solas1183
      @solas1183 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThroughJermainesLens The Vivo though has a sports mode for that. If you choose that it will have a much faster shutter speed than the Xiaomi. It works even in dim situations as it uses some post processing to remove noise. Although not as good as the falcon capture on the honor magic 5 pro I think it's still pretty good. Xiaomi automatically adjusts the shutter speed when you turn on motion focus in the settings but it doesn't work as reliably as it sometimes doesn't detect the motion and increase the shutter speed (especially at night). I suggest you give the sports mode a try and check the shutter speed in the file info and see how fast it is. It can even freeze moving cars at lowlight (at least with city lighting). The honor magic 5 pro though I think is the best of all for moving subject photos. The auto focus is really good (the sensor they are using seems to have better focusing than the imx989) and the shutter speed is very fast

    Personally I prefer the more contrast. Shots by the Vivo tend to allow in too allow too much light in, over brightening and creating a washed out look at tilmes. You see this behavior on street lights and neon lights pretty regularly. In some shots, Vivo definitely has to tone it down. However, in many shots, it's personal preference.

    Vivo photos sure have more light but I'd argue that in some cases it's way too much light. No doubt Vivo uses low iso but even then it seems that Xiaomi photos have less grain.
    I trust Zeiss lens coating but not sure why it does not seems to be working right, all the night shots that I've seen of Vivo x90 pro have this diffused light look which makes the colors slightly washed out and light glares are not controlled at all (see how well Xiaomi has controlled all the light sources). I've noticed this behaviour even in daylight shots when sun is hitting the lens directly and that's a huge bummer for me.
    Though for sure Xiaomi has it's issues too, I like it's colors but most of it's images are too dark even during the day, they really need to improve their HDR.

    • @ThroughJermainesLens
      @ThroughJermainesLens  ปีที่แล้ว

      for me with the xiaomi it is mostly that in some cases the buildings are too dark compared to reality, BUT the main real thing is the warm tones I have in my city, that just didn't show up, it turns into cold colours, that is a shame, because the more toned down I like, where vivo can without a doubt be to bright and puchy, but brightness can easily be turned down directly on the phone, not turned up without issues as grain and so on.
      So hopefully the colour adjustion updates will come so it keeps those warmer tones in the city properly :)

      I think I was hyper focused on the colours too much and some shots not showing the building effected it as well, BUT I will be doing a video about that because my view is shifted a bit just looking at it longer and longer, though the colour is STILL a problem, having turns turn from yellow to white isn't good, that warm feeling is what makes this city so nice, so having those cold colours destroys the feeling of it a lot.
      But I will agree that the Vivo is too punchy, but in turn it is easier to turn that down then to turn up brightness. (colours still need work on vivo as well with the saturation though) but there is more data in the shot to work with.

      @@ThroughJermainesLensThank you, but I’ll repeat once again that I write as a photographer, and not as a simple smartphone user. It’s easier to edit color and tone in any editor if it’s a little blue, closer to white, rather than removing yellowness. You can also change the settings on the phone itself. I agree that a simple user wants to get a picture like he sees, yes. But for a person who deals with photographs and videos, clarity, details, shadows are much more important than a little blue or yellow; yellow is just more difficult to work with than blue. This is just my opinion based on many years of experience. Not at all, listen to what I said in the video, heck said it several times that the Vivo can be too bright. I am talking about colours being off on the Xiaomi where yellow is white on it, and where part of the building is hardly visible where to my eyes it was easily visible.

    I personally think camera comparison should be left to photographers who are more experienced with photography, with that said I personally liked Xiaomi's photos despite their cool colour grading approach. The photos from Vivo looks way too HDR for my liking.

    i don't know if its just me but i prefer xiaomis night mode
    it looks more natural and reserves the night better that washing it out like vivo

      I can agree with that till a degree, while I think the vivo is too bright, the Xiaomi is losing that warm tone in my city in this mode, so that needs work, and from time to time it is too dark (though as stated in the video in cases that also benefits the shot a lot to add characther to it :)
