I hate when people try to justify one person's bad behavior by mentioning what someone else has done. Kate's behavior, past or present, had nothing to do with Ashton's horrible behavior this season.
That is a common tactic for not only a narcissist but an abuser as well. Plus, I love how they put the two biggest jerks together. lol They ruined the show for me, I won't watch another season after this one.
I wish they replayed the clip where Ashton and Kevin keep talking about how it's NORMAL or "it happens" when discussing kissing women against their will. It was the most disgusting conversation of Below Deck.... of Bravo.... history, and I am shocked it's not getting more attention.

No, if you rewatch the clip when Kate is walking back on the boat and Ashton and Kevin are talking.... Kevin is laughing about it, and I believe that Kevin is the one who says "it happens"--- because in the world of Ashton and Kevin, violating someone and forcibly kissing someone is a daily occurrence that doesn't warrant any self reflection or apology... EVEN IN HIS VIDEOS, Ashton truly thinks people are still upset over his "d--k suck" comment. It's not even dawned on him that his physical violation of Kate could be cause for concern.
Ashton badmouthed her the minute he found out she was coming on board. This whole season he is frustrated because not one of the ladies thinks he's a catch or gives him the time of day. He even complained on camera about it. pent up frustration and who does he target for it...Rhylee who doesn't put up with his BS and has no issue calling him on it. Nor does she take it from the the other guys who just follow whatever Ashton says. On this point, I am in agreement with what Kate said about him.
And I find it funny how the only female they all got along with was the one who called herself weak. They didn't like it when Rhylee or any of the other female deckhands could do their job better then them because it made them look like slackers so what do they disrespect her and try to get her fired because she defends herself 🙄

@CBA CBA Exactly and the whole bowline scene was ridiculous because she literally asked him a very simple respectful question might I add and he went off for no reason. In my opinion, Ashton's only problem was that she was a female that wouldn't put up with him trying to treat her like a dainty little princess who couldn't do much. I don't remember if it was in this video or not but some of the women from the interior crew said that Ahston never had a problem with another female deckhand because she never tried to do any of the hard work. She would say I'm too weak to do it.

Kevin is an instigator throughout the season; Ashton said he wanted his crew to do research on their trips and during the Bellino excursion he said "I don't know what this is".

I think Kevin, Ashton and tanner were horrible. Not so much Brian. I think he could’ve been more of a man and called them out. But I don’t think he would’ve behaved that way had he been around them
What Rhylee said def right on!! He has leadership leader yet he let his personal feeling toward her got in the way. Everyone should be treated fairly and giving a fair chance.
Jess Marie yes and he didn’t treated Abby like that even after the captain had to tell her about the radio and the hair a bunch of time and she didn’t know how to throw the line to secure the boat.
AND he repeatedly relegated her to 'cleaning and polishing' instead of helping with heavier things like the slide, for example. Every time the slide came out: "Where do you want me, Ashton?" "Uh, Rhylee, uh, um ... why don't you go clean up the lazarette? Or better yet, go down for a break for two hours." Every deck team EVER complains about how much work this slide is and how long it takes to set up and tear down - why would you NOT want more help with it? It's mind-boggling! I think it's because they're afraid she's going to shoot her mouth off and spark an argument during the operation, but honestly, if you'd just answer her questions about what position you want her in and what she needs to do - instead of saying "Calm down, Rhylee" and "Take it easy, Rhylee" - I am 100% sure she would just do the job you want her to do. It's appalling that Ashton and the guys truly don't seem to be able to see how much they are sidelining her.
Captain Lee's mismanagement of Kate has been at the root of much of the drama this season. If he can't treat her the same as the rest of the crew, they should not work together. She runs him. The preferential treatment needs to stop.
I agree, however, that Justine really had no business talking to him about the food and saying to step it up. She was the true complainer about it. I think she purposely made her preference sheet difficult. It was interesting that not one preference sheet said allergic/can't have. Just said "doesn't like". Also, are you really going to tell the Chef what type of pan to use when cooking? Really? But, Kevin's attitude is appalling.

Steve Sherman Rhylee can tie more than basic knots. She couldn’t tie the knot Ashton wanted to use. Maybe if he was a good leader he could have taken a little more time to show her. Because she couldn’t get it as fast as the guys he flipped out. By the way, Brian also had problems learning it. Ashton didn’t flip out on him. So maybe Ashton isn’t a good teacher. Besides if she couldn’t tie it this year then she couldn’t tie it last year. He apparently didn’t have a problem with it then. The knot she used is the knot she and her crew use in Alaska which when demonstrated on television, came undo just as fast as Ashton’s. And by the way Ashton has proven he has a volatile temper, an arrogant attitude, is misogynistic, forces unwanted affection on women, has a controlling personality, is a terrible example of professionalism and has a problem with alcohol, yet he’s bosun. I’ll also mention Ashton almost lost his life last year by making a stupid mistake that even the greenest rookie has more sense than to make. According to Captain Lee, Rhylee was the only one to say Man over board. His boys didn’t. If it wasn’t for her Ashton wouldn’t be here. The Captain, Rhylee and Ashton all said he didn’t even say thank you. Ashton just said she was doing her job. Implying she didn’t deserve at least you a thank you. She was doing a good job when it happened . Enough to save his sorry butt. This season Ashton talked negatively about her to the crew and made them formed a bad opinion of her instead of letting her have a clean slate as he stated he did. So let’s add liar to the list of reasons not to like him. He has made a hostile working environment for her even before she got there. He does not treats her as an equal. Also something he claims and has proven to be a lie. He sets her up for failure and sabotages. I stand by my statement, Rhylee is smart and a hard worker. She gets along great with and has a great personality when interacting with the guest. Rhylee would learn the ins and outs of the yachting industry quickly. So I still say she’ll be a much better bosun and leader than Ashton will ever hope to be.

I can’t stand Ashton. He ruins the show. I know there has to be drama, and that makes it more fun and interesting. But I’ve watched every episode of every this show and he ruined it a lot this season. Again, I LOVE the show so much!! But not with him in it. He’s gross. And Kate and Rylee did nothing wrong. Not to that degree.This was a rough season regarding some crazy and spoiled guests. There’s nothing easy about any of these people’s jobs. This kind of negative drama from a leader was uncalled for. Ashton gave Rhylee the opportunities she wanted in the previous like teaching her to do anchor and tow lines. He didn’t like how combative she was- and she IS combative. She doesn’t shut up and listen and continues to be confrontational over petty stuff. It’s ridiculous. Rhylee definitely has issues with working with men.

Captain Lee is a complete DB....the way he attacks people and REFUSES to admit he is ever wrong about anything, the way he refuses to have a two way conversation with his staff, the way he fails to EVER motivate his staff without attacks and threats, the way he looses his temper and throws tantrums...it just makes me wonder if anyone else notices this. This may be the ONLY thing he said to stick up for staff. It really IS his job as the captain to remediate and act as a Liaison between crew members...not pit them against each other. I am shocked to see he actually gave a hoot about this.

Captain Lee says everyone must respect rank and leaders are responsible for their team. So he hires the lady who has zero respect for rank for Ash to Manage, then after her disrespecting his rank many times, does not support his and teams wishes to remove her. Then Lee doesn't take any responsibility for the crew himself saying he wasn't aware the the toxic culture. Therefore Lee not only sets Ash up for failure, but is a complete hypocrite.

Ross was an excellent Bosun and he even had issues with her. She ignores the rank as well. You never talk back, make snide remarks to your superior. I work in a shipping company and everyone respects the rank above. That's how it works. You disrespect your superior enough and you're gone. Rhylee is not cut out to be a 3rd deckhand because she feels she is above that and will always feel that way. I think she should make Valor her last yachting job. One more thing......Captain Lee knew how much of an attitude Rhylee had on My Seanna so he should have known better than to bring her back.......he should take some blame on how this all played out this season.

Simone wanted to do the laundry, till she started liking Tanner. She said she needed guidance in service. No, she needed TRAINED, which takes time and patience.

He told her about the trip at 8:15 the night before. It is the bosun's responsibility to make sure they have all necessary permits. Ashton knew about the fishing trip for days yet did not tell Rhylee until the night before.
I just finished watching the season for the second time. I do not think Ashton did a bad job at all, everyone on that crew after charters on their off hours was guilty of “embarrassing the boat” as captain lee puts it. The Deck crew was fine until Riley’s arrival and even though Ashton was not enthusiastic about her joining the boat, he did make every effort to make her a part of the team. Kate is also another part of damaging the crew morale. The show is much better without her now. Even Ashton made himself look bad as well as the rest of the guys, he got his job done. His drinking off hours did not effect work. His position did not “Get to his head.” Kate and Riley we’re definitely the cause of many problems for that season.
So Captain Lee......since you won't have Ashton back as your Bosun, let's see you have the balls to promote Rhylee as your next Bosun?? Let's see how you manage her. I'll be you take the easy way out and you fire her mid-season.
I’m a female, retired, mental health professional who has never done this before, but the behavior from the supposed leaders annoyed me. I believe both Kate and Rhylee have emotional problems when it comes to ANY kind of criticism, even if it’s constructive. They both are so hung up on demanding respect. This is “projection”, which means they are accusing a person of doing precisely what they are guilty of, either consciously or unconsciously. I watched the entire season, initially having much respect for the captain. He, also, has a problem with his superiority. I realize a captain holds rank, but he expects the same submissiveness off the boat. His anger was so inappropriate in the confrontations with the guys (How DARE they confront him about possible misjudgment!) He is guilty of exactly what he is accusing Ashton of, namely, being too impressed with his title/position. The difference is Captain Lee brags about how many years experience he has over Ashton. Ashton did get caught up in the Boys’ Club, but he’s got the potential to be an exceptional leader as he matures. Captain Lee has blurred the lines with Kate. Even though he says she’s got more seniority, a good work ethic, and their long history together, he refuses to see her very obvious faults. She bad-mouths people, is unduly sarcastic and cruel, not to mention vindictive, (don’t dare ever suggest she has been unfair to a subordinate). Both the captain, Kate, and Rhylee were quick to judge Ashton regarding his boatswain experience, but they must be equally judged for their character in general as to their life experience. Kate and Rhylee are no match for Ashton as far as fairness, honesty, and level-headedness. Kate certainly needs to “check her ego at the dock”. She once made a diagnosis of Ashton saying he has psychological problems when, clearly, she is the one with the problem; a perfect example of projection, yet again. That was when she threw everyone’s uniforms on the floor. Both Kate and Rhylee need an anger management program. I will not watch next season, since the dysfunction of this group is so annoying, but I did need to get all of this criticism out of my system. I usually enjoy such shows because they are good people studies. Kate is manipulative to the point of destruction and is very cognizant of the fact that she is permitted, by the captain, to abuse people under the guise of sincerity and humor. I find that abhorrent. Ashton will move on and should dismiss her behavior for what it is...insecurity, jealousy, and the need for attention. If Captain Lee were to read this, he would totally ignore it; the precise reaction of a passive-aggressive, power-hungry, insecure man. I’m disappointed in you, Captain Lee, but Kate is a loss.

I've been working in the service industry for 7 years and 80% of single guys only care about getting laid and getting girls numbers. If you want that than all the staff should be 40+ in age.

Rhylee is not a team player. She's impossible to work with. She caused unnecessary trouble previously and again this season. Captain Lee failed his Deck crew both seasons by ignoring their complaints regarding Rhylee's aggression. Kate is coming across very hypocritical in her compliments. Lee looks weak by constant favouritism.

It’s a shame that Captain Lee let his previous relationship with Kate affect his work environment, the amount of hypocrisy that occurred in the reunion blew my mind, I would have love to have seen Captain Sandy on this season and how she would’ve handled Kate and Rylie
This was poor management on the Capt. He should never have asked Kate about the exterior crew. She has no clue as to what is going on. The captain is completely blinded by their friendship.
There was disrespect on so many levels during this season of Below Deck. The disrespect took on its own entity and consumed the Valor. It wasn't just petty disrespect but the kind that was deep cutting and hurtful. They were ALL at fault with the exception of Simone and Courtney.
I hate the way Captain Lee is handling and covering up for Kate. That is why she is so rude and disrespectful and unprofessional. He is flipping unprofessional.

I've also had enough of hearing Rhylee constantly use the name of God in the most vulgar and blasphemous way when she says; Jesus F***ing Christ! Who does she think she is? She is beyond obnoxious! It's bad enough that she can't respect her fellow human beings, but to disrespect God in that way is deplorable!
I think captain lee believes & goes with whatever Kate says. Rhylee is unmanageable, so I don’t think anyone would like working with her. As far as Kevin I think his food is always amazing he really brings it, although he didn’t bring much to the show. :)
Ashton and the boys club were very disgusting this season. These immature boys need to take classes on respecting people, especially women. All three guys were rude, disrespectful, jerks. The whole season was disturbing and I don’t think I can ever watch Below Deck with Captain Lee again. Captain Lee saying that he didn’t know what was going on was a huge cop out. Those boys should have had their asses handed to them by Captain Lee early on in the show. He needs to be informed of what’s going on at all times. Maybe a daily briefing would help, or him showing up unexpectedly would help. Captain Lee also needs to tell the boys that he ever hears of one guy being verbally abusive, sexually inappropriate, or physically threatening to a female will not be tolerated at any time before they ever leave the harbor.
Rylie was not easy but even at the first dinner the boys club was already gearing up to hate on the next new women - they were women haters and was so dismissive of her and ignorant she is a hard worker
I stopped watching the shows that Ashton is on. When he showed us he could not handle his Liquor and was wanting To attack Kate and he hit the Window in the Van like he did. If I was the owner of the boat, he’s off the boat no question asked. He already create a Hostel work place on the boat by the way he treats the female crew members. I like the show but like I said when he’s on it I’m not watching it.
@Kelly Sallans - Kate may be a shit "stirrer," but that doesn't mean that Ashton is a good leader! It is his responsibility to bring the crew together and help them succeed. Managing Rhylee and figuring out how to get a long with her and integrate her into the crew is HIS responsibility. Professionals have to do it every day. Teachers, Foremen, Managers all have to find different ways to communicate with their students, co-workers and employees. We don't all communicate the same way. If the message isn't getting across, the we must find another way to get through to the person with whom we are teaching or working. To be a successful leader, one must be centered, confident, fair and willing to learn the art of negotiation. Ashton needs to learn the art of diplomacy and the cultivation of relationships. A good leader guides and helps their people to succeed and does not set them up to fail or hang them out to dry. Never ever have I heard a GOOD leader complaining about how he or she is being treated. Stop whining Ashton!
It's a little difficult when you have an employee who goes on the defensive almost every time she is spoken to, has issues with authority and is extremely reactive to any kind of perceived criticism. He tried repeatedly to include her and to be "centered, confident, and fair". She's a very defiant woman and Ashton did the best he could under the circumstance in my opinion.
Leaving her watching from a distance - or sending her off to clean - every time they do the slide is being "centered, confident, and fair?" Self-centered and self-confident, maybe. And telling her, when she tried to talk to him about how sidelined she feels, that it's all down to "her own insecurities?" That's another way of saying "It's all in your head, sweetie." It's called gaslighting, and I'm not sure Ashton's even aware he's doing it. Yes, Rhylee is loud and defensive, but this season, it's becoming much more apparent that she's only standing up for herself, and reacting to how they treat her. I didn't like her much last season, but now I'm seeing why she acts the way she does ... and it has everything to do with the way others treat her. Respect is a two-way street.

I thought it was wrong for Ashton to try to get Rhylee fired, but I also think that Rhylee needs to snap out out of her difficult attitude. She got into fights with people her very first night with the crew. And she had the same issues on the previous season. And Kate has no idea what it's like to deal with Rhylee. Kate does not really like Rhylee. She just bonded with her to help spin the Ashton situation. Kate has as many issues as Ashton they are just different issues. All of the crew should not drink like college kids. She always complains about the chef no matter who it is-just like Ashton complained about Riley. Kate is the top dog in her mind and Captain Lee's. Rhylee was the worst part of last season, and the worst part of this season. Captain Lee lost a lot of my respect by not understanding that she has worked for 3 bosuns and all three wanted her fired. She doesn't listen, has a massive chip on her shoulder, and obviously hates authority. I despised watching her.

Kate, the guests were NOT HAPPY on that fishing trip and they voiced it. Since Ashton allocated that area to Rhylee and it was a great opportunity for her to prove herself and shine, she should have researched the fishing laws. That's just common sense bc every country's different. it was not Ashton's responsibility to research. It was hers.
I’m so glad that Captain Lee saw how they were keeping this “All Boys Club” thing going on the boat and icing Rylee out. The first thing he told the deck crew is that she was an issue so they already have it in their heads she’s an issue.

I saw Rhylee giving attitude when Ashton had her and Tanner practice their knots. They wanted a certain knot used, and she was kind of unwilling to learn it. Maybe she does this with all things, and if so I could see that being an issue. Other then that, I don't know if they aren't showing her insubordination, because a lot of their critique seems very unfair from the footage they did show. Personally, I think she is reacting to unfair treatment, that makes her appear to be worse then she is. For instance, she was asking questions, because she wants to do things right, I believe, and she is told to "calm down" by Brian. Same thing happened last season with Ashton telling her to calm down, and she was calm. She was just talking, and asking about what they were to do. When you tell someone calm to calm down, couldn't that create an issue? She does have a temper, and that is the perfect way to flare it up. I personally do not think they like her energy, and her talking and asking about the task at hand.
Exactly! Thank you for seeing that most of Rhylee's behavior this season is REACTIVE to the way the rest of the deck crew treats her. I've been looking back at some of Season 6, and honestly, now that the issue has been identified - poor management and poor communication - it's becoming more and more evident that that was the problem on My Seanna, too, and that's what usually set her off in Season 6 as well. And actually, Rhylee could tie the bowline knot, when specifically asked to do so. It just took her a little while, because she doesn't use it on her fishing boat, so she's not used to doing it. If Ashton would take the time to demonstrate to her WHY a bowline is a useful knot, because it can be loosened easily under tension, maybe she might see why it's important to know how to tie one, and she might start using it where it's appropriate and useful. But instead of explaining this - which he's happy to do to Brian (who already knows), and to the camera - he jumps all over her for 'giving him attitude'. That is not good managerial behavior. To be fair, if Rhylee had just focused on tying the knot as he'd asked, instead of starting to spout off at the mouth, the whole thing might have gone very differently. She was done tying the knot 5 seconds later. All she had to do was practice tying it a few more times, and the meeting would have been over. They are both at fault, to a degree, but Ashton is more at fault for not seeing how he's sidelining and isolating her from the rest of the crew, thinking he can just get rid of her instead. The fact that he has no prior experience as a bosun is really showing.
@@BerlinerinToni Chandler treated Rhylee terribly, and was an extremely horrible leader. Ashton seems immature as a leader, and does not handle her well from what I have seen. His stupid "Smashton" stuff is ridiculous too. That Rhylee had a problem with Ross too, as her reactions were over the top with him, does makes me think she has issues as well. I do not think we were shown everything this season, but what was shown makes me think she is being treated unfairly.
Everytime Ashton or Chandler had authority every female deckhand under them was treated like they weren't capable of doing the same things as the guys. They reacted to the harsh treatment and everyone got mad because they didn't sit and take it
Actually she wasn't giving him attitude she was just asking him if he wanted them to show him the Knott right or if work on and bring it back. He blew up for nothing. I had to play it back a few times to figure out what she said. But I completely agree with everything else you said

If I am not mistaken, this was Ashton's first time being Bosun, and he seemed fine (when he was not literally drunk) previously to Rhylee coming aboard. I think they purposely brought back Rhylee to make drama. And with the immature Ashton, trying to run a department, he got caught up in the mix. Ross was a good Bosun, and he needed to treat Rhylee with kid gloves, as she is a volatile person. She does have issues. There is no question about that. She may have been trying to redeem herself here, but was given little chance at first. By the end of the season, I think the boys were treated too harshly, and I lost respect for Captain Lee, for being biased toward Kate, and Kate, for playing innocent, when she knows very well how to push buttons. They want to call the boys misogynistic, when Kate was playing her games, and Rhylee is a tough case was unfair.
Rhylee and Kate are toxic to a healthy working environment. Not at all professional or respectful to other crew members. Kate in particular is a nasty piece of work. She should never have told Rhylee about Ashton and Lee's conversation, but in saying that, what was he thinking saying that in front of her? 🙄. If that's her real personality, WHOA. Lee has blinders on when it comes to her. Ashton is the better crew member. I think Ashton needs to rein in his drinking, he has no control and the people he works with shouldn't have to put up with that in downtime. He's going to end up in jail one day.
Riley has anger issues etc etc that no one is addressing. She does this season after season with every group. You can be a assertive woman without being so argumentative. They ask her a question and she takes it negatively and cusses them out. Kate, Courtney and Simone are assertive but are still ladies.. If one of the guys or even girls ask, questions, or disagree with Riley she cusses them out and starts an argument. Her disposition and attitude is not very good....no one should have to walk on eggshells to be around her. Kate did not agree with her and she wanted to fight and cuss out Kate. She doesn't respect anyone above or below her. She works so hard and has so much bloat experience yet she is still a third deck hand season after season because of her bad attitude and being hard to get along with🙄 she should be apologizing for the wrongs she did and work on herself also not just the guys apologizing. Kate, Kevin and Ashton said and did a few uncalled for actions but they were willing to apologize. Before Riley came along the group was so happy. In the beginning Kevin had a bit if an attitude but he was trying g his best to apologize when things happened to keep the peace. ...then here comes Riley with her bad attitude and things never got right again🙄

EVEN IN HIS VIDEOS, Ashton truly thinks people are still upset over his "d--k suck" comment. It's not even dawned on him that his physical violation of Kate could be cause for concern.

Nor does she take it from the the other guys who just follow whatever Ashton says. On this point, I am in agreement with what Kate said about him.
And I find it funny how the only female they all got along with was the one who called herself weak. Every deck team EVER complains about how much work this slide is and how long it takes to set up and tear down - why would you NOT want more help with it? It's mind-boggling! I think it's because they're afraid she's going to shoot her mouth off and spark an argument during the operation, but honestly, if you'd just answer her questions about what position you want her in and what she needs to do - instead of saying "Calm down, Rhylee" and "Take it easy, Rhylee" - I am 100% sure she would just do the job you want her to do. It's appalling that Ashton and the guys truly don't seem to be able to see how much they are sidelining her.

And by the way Ashton has proven he has a volatile temper, an arrogant attitude, is misogynistic, forces unwanted affection on women, has a controlling personality, is a terrible example of professionalism and has a problem with alcohol, yet he’s bosun. I’ll also mention Ashton almost lost his life last year by making a stupid mistake that even the greenest rookie has more sense than to make. According to Captain Lee, Rhylee was the only one to say Man over board. His boys didn’t. If it wasn’t for her Ashton wouldn’t be here. The Captain, Rhylee and Ashton all said he didn’t even say thank you. Ashton just said she was doing her job. Implying she didn’t deserve at least you a thank you. She was doing a good job when it happened . Enough to save his sorry butt. This season Ashton talked negatively about her to the crew and made them formed a bad opinion of her instead of letting her have a clean slate as he stated he did. So let’s add liar to the list of reasons not to like him. He has made a hostile working environment for her even before she got there. He does not treats her as an equal. Also something he claims and has proven to be a lie. He sets her up for failure and sabotages. I stand by my statement, Rhylee is smart and a hard worker. Captain Lee is a complete DB....the way he attacks people and REFUSES to admit he is ever wrong about anything, the way he refuses to have a two way conversation with his staff, the way he fails to EVER motivate his staff without attacks and threats, the way he looses his temper and throws tantrums...it just makes me wonder if anyone else notices this. This may be the ONLY thing he said to stick up for staff. It really IS his job as the captain to remediate and act as a Liaison between crew members...not pit them against each other. I am shocked to see he actually gave a hoot about this.

So he hires the lady who has zero respect for rank for Ash to Manage, then after her disrespecting his rank many times, does not support his and teams wishes to remove her. Then Lee doesn't take any responsibility for the crew himself saying he wasn't aware the the toxic culture. Therefore Lee not only sets Ash up for failure, but is a complete hypocrite.
I can't believe Kate sits her and says all the things she says when how negative has she been with how many stews and put them in tears..remember when she put the music outside the cabins door? Isolated her and made her feel terrible.

One more thing......Captain Lee knew how much of an attitude Rhylee had on My Seanna so he should have known better than to bring her back.......he should take some blame on how this all played out this season.

He told her about the trip at 8:15 the night before. It is the bosun's responsibility to make sure they have all necessary permits. Ashton knew about the fishing trip for days yet did not tell Rhylee until the night before.
I just finished watching the season for the second time. I do not think Ashton did a bad job at all, everyone on that crew after charters on their off hours was guilty of “embarrassing the boat” as captain lee puts it. The Deck crew was fine until Riley’s arrival and even though Ashton was not enthusiastic about her joining the boat, he did make every effort to make her a part of the team. Kate is also another part of damaging the crew morale. The show is much better without her now. Even Ashton made himself look bad as well as the rest of the guys, he got his job done. His drinking off hours did not effect work. His position did not “Get to his head.” Kate and Riley we’re definitely the cause of many problems for that season.
So Captain Lee......since you won't have Ashton back as your Bosun, let's see you have the balls to promote Rhylee as your next Bosun?? Let's see how you manage her. I'll be you take the easy way out and you fire her mid-season.

I’m a female, retired, mental health professional who has never done this before, but the behavior from the supposed leaders annoyed me. I believe both Kate and Rhylee have emotional problems when it comes to ANY kind of criticism, even if it’s constructive. They both are so hung up on demanding respect. This is “projection”, which means they are accusing a person of doing precisely what they are guilty of, either consciously or unconsciously. I watched the entire season, initially having much respect for the captain. He, also, has a problem with his superiority. I realize a captain holds rank, but he expects the same submissiveness off the boat. His anger was so inappropriate in the confrontations with the guys (How DARE they confront him about possible misjudgment!) He is guilty of exactly what he is accusing Ashton of, namely, being too impressed with his title/position. The difference is Captain Lee brags about how many years experience he has over Ashton. Ashton did get caught up in the Boys’ Club, but he’s got the potential to be an exceptional leader as he matures.
Captain Lee has blurred the lines with Kate. Even though he says she’s got more seniority, a good work ethic, and their long history together, he refuses to see her very obvious faults. She bad-mouths people, is unduly sarcastic and cruel, not to mention vindictive, (don’t dare ever suggest she has been unfair to a subordinate).
Both the captain, Kate, and Rhylee were quick to judge Ashton regarding his boatswain experience, but they must be equally judged for their character in general as to their life experience. Kate and Rhylee are no match for Ashton as far as fairness, honesty, and level-headedness. Kate certainly needs to “check her ego at the dock”. She once made a diagnosis of Ashton saying he has psychological problems when, clearly, she is the one with the problem; a perfect example of projection, yet again. That was when she threw everyone’s uniforms on the floor. Both Kate and Rhylee need an anger management program.
I will not watch next season, since the dysfunction of this group is so annoying, but I did need to get all of this criticism out of my system. I usually enjoy such shows because they are good people studies. Kate is manipulative to the point of destruction and is very cognizant of the fact that she is permitted, by the captain, to abuse people under the guise of sincerity and humor. I find that abhorrent. Ashton will move on and should dismiss her behavior for what it is...insecurity, jealousy, and the need for attention. If Captain Lee were to read this, he would totally ignore it; the precise reaction of a passive-aggressive, power-hungry, insecure man. I’m disappointed in you, Captain Lee, but Kate is a loss.

There was disrespect on so many levels during this season of Below Deck. The disrespect took on its own entity and consumed the Valor. It wasn't just petty disrespect but the kind that was deep cutting and hurtful. They were ALL at fault with the exception of Simone and Courtney.

Those boys should have had their asses handed to them by Captain Lee early on in the show. He needs to be informed of what’s going on at all times. Maybe a daily briefing would help, or him showing up unexpectedly would help. Captain Lee also needs to tell the boys that he ever hears of one guy being verbally abusive, sexually inappropriate, or physically threatening to a female will not be tolerated at any time before they ever leave the harbor.
Rylie was not easy but even at the first dinner the boys club was already gearing up to hate on the next new women - they were women haters and was so dismissive of her and ignorant she is a hard worker
I stopped watching the shows that Ashton is on. When he showed us he could not handle his Liquor and was wanting To attack Kate and he hit the Window in the Van like he did. If I was the owner of the boat, he’s off the boat no question asked. He already create a Hostel work place on the boat by the way he treats the female crew members. I like the show but like I said when he’s on it I’m not watching it.
@Kelly Sallans - Kate may be a shit "stirrer," but that doesn't mean that Ashton is a good leader! It is his responsibility to bring the crew together and help them succeed. Managing Rhylee and figuring out how to get a long with her and integrate her into the crew is HIS responsibility. Professionals have to do it every day. Teachers, Foremen, Managers all have to find different ways to communicate with their students, co-workers and employees. We don't all communicate the same way. If the message isn't getting across, the we must find another way to get through to the person with whom we are teaching or working. To be a successful leader, one must be centered, confident, fair and willing to learn the art of negotiation. Ashton needs to learn the art of diplomacy and the cultivation of relationships. A good leader guides and helps their people to succeed and does not set them up to fail or hang them out to dry. Never ever have I heard a GOOD leader complaining about how he or she is being treated. Stop whining Ashton!
It's a little difficult when you have an employee who goes on the defensive almost every time she is spoken to, has issues with authority and is extremely reactive to any kind of perceived criticism. He tried repeatedly to include her and to be "centered, confident, and fair". She's a very defiant woman and Ashton did the best he could under the circumstance in my opinion.
Leaving her watching from a distance - or sending her off to clean - every time they do the slide is being "centered, confident, and fair?" Self-centered and self-confident, maybe. And telling her, when she tried to talk to him about how sidelined she feels, that it's all down to "her own insecurities?" That's another way of saying "It's all in your head, sweetie." It's called gaslighting, and I'm not sure Ashton's even aware he's doing it.
Yes, Rhylee is loud and defensive, but this season, it's becoming much more apparent that she's only standing up for herself, and reacting to how they treat her. I didn't like her much last season, but now I'm seeing why she acts the way she does ... and it has everything to do with the way others treat her. Respect is a two-way street.
True, but kate didn't help by telling her everything what Ashton said. I knew she was adding fuel to the fire. Maybe kate could give rylee advice not gossip like a teenager.

I thought it was wrong for Ashton to try to get Rhylee fired, but I also think that Rhylee needs to snap out out of her difficult attitude. She got into fights with people her very first night with the crew. And she had the same issues on the previous season. And Kate has no idea what it's like to deal with Rhylee. She doesn't really work with her.
Kate does not really like Rhylee. She just bonded with her to help spin the Ashton situation. Kate has as many issues as Ashton they are just different issues. All of the crew should not drink like college kids. She always complains about the chef no matter who it is-just like Ashton complained about Riley. Kate is the top dog in her mind and Captain Lee's. She gets away with alot.
Rhylee was the worst part of last season, and the worst part of this season. Captain Lee lost a lot of my respect by not understanding that she has worked for 3 bosuns and all three wanted her fired. She doesn't listen, has a massive chip on her shoulder, and obviously hates authority. I despised watching her.

Kate, the guests were NOT HAPPY on that fishing trip and they voiced it. Since Ashton allocated that area to Rhylee and it was a great opportunity for her to prove herself and shine, she should have researched the fishing laws. That's just common sense bc every country's different. it was not Ashton's responsibility to research. It was hers.

I’m so glad that Captain Lee saw how they were keeping this “All Boys Club” thing going on the boat and icing Rylee out. The first thing he told the deck crew is that she was an issue so they already have it in their heads she’s an issue.

Agreed Ashton is creepy and out of line! But doesn’t anyone notice Rylees bad attitude rt from the get go. And Kate is really doing the passive aggressive put downs that just crack me up! I don’t know if that’s quite the word for how she puts people down or in their place but it makes me giggle!
I saw Rhylee giving attitude when Ashton had her and Tanner practice their knots. They wanted a certain knot used, and she was kind of unwilling to learn it. Maybe she does this with all things, and if so I could see that being an issue. Other then that, I don't know if they aren't showing her insubordination, because a lot of their critique seems very unfair from the footage they did show.
Personally, I think she is reacting to unfair treatment, that makes her appear to be worse then she is. For instance, she was asking questions, because she wants to do things right, I believe, and she is told to "calm down" by Brian. Same thing happened last season with Ashton telling her to calm down, and she was calm. She was just talking, and asking about what they were to do. When you tell someone calm to calm down, couldn't that create an issue? She does have a temper, and that is the perfect way to flare it up. I personally do not think they like her energy, and her talking and asking about the task at hand.
Exactly! Thank you for seeing that most of Rhylee's behavior this season is REACTIVE to the way the rest of the deck crew treats her. I've been looking back at some of Season 6, and honestly, now that the issue has been identified - poor management and poor communication - it's becoming more and more evident that that was the problem on My Seanna, too, and that's what usually set her off in Season 6 as well. And actually, Rhylee could tie the bowline knot, when specifically asked to do so. It just took her a little while, because she doesn't use it on her fishing boat, so she's not used to doing it. If Ashton would take the time to demonstrate to her WHY a bowline is a useful knot, because it can be loosened easily under tension, maybe she might see why it's important to know how to tie one, and she might start using it where it's appropriate and useful. But instead of explaining this - which he's happy to do to Brian (who already knows), and to the camera - he jumps all over her for 'giving him attitude'. That is not good managerial behavior. To be fair, if Rhylee had just focused on tying the knot as he'd asked, instead of starting to spout off at the mouth, the whole thing might have gone very differently. She was done tying the knot 5 seconds later. All she had to do was practice tying it a few more times, and the meeting would have been over. They are both at fault, to a degree, but Ashton is more at fault for not seeing how he's sidelining and isolating her from the rest of the crew, thinking he can just get rid of her instead. The fact that he has no prior experience as a bosun is really showing.
@@BerlinerinToni Chandler treated Rhylee terribly, and was an extremely horrible leader. Ashton seems immature as a leader, and does not handle her well from what I have seen. His stupid "Smashton" stuff is ridiculous too. That Rhylee had a problem with Ross too, as her reactions were over the top with him, does makes me think she has issues as well. I do not think we were shown everything this season, but what was shown makes me think she is being treated unfairly.
Everytime Ashton or Chandler had authority every female deckhand under them was treated like they weren't capable of doing the same things as the guys. They reacted to the harsh treatment and everyone got mad because they didn't sit and take it
Actually she wasn't giving him attitude she was just asking him if he wanted them to show him the Knott right or if work on and bring it back. He blew up for nothing. I had to play it back a few times to figure out what she said. But I completely agree with everything else you said
@@zamayafrasier1144 Chandler was an absolute disaster as a Bosun. He should never be in charge of other people. If I am not mistaken, this was Ashton's first time being Bosun, and he seemed fine (when he was not literally drunk) previously to Rhylee coming aboard. I think they purposely brought back Rhylee to make drama. And with the immature Ashton, trying to run a department, he got caught up in the mix. Ross was a good Bosun, and he needed to treat Rhylee with kid gloves, as she is a volatile person. She does have issues. There is no question about that. She may have been trying to redeem herself here, but was given little chance at first.
By the end of the season, I think the boys were treated too harshly, and I lost respect for Captain Lee, for being biased toward Kate, and Kate, for playing innocent, when she knows very well how to push buttons. They want to call the boys misogynistic, when Kate was playing her games, and Rhylee is a tough case was unfair.
Rhylee and Kate are toxic to a healthy working environment. Not at all professional or respectful to other crew members. Kate in particular is a nasty piece of work. She should never have told Rhylee about Ashton and Lee's conversation, but in saying that, what was he thinking saying that in front of her? 🙄. If that's her real personality, WHOA. Lee has blinders on when it comes to her. Ashton is the better crew member.
I think Ashton needs to rein in his drinking, he has no control and the people he works with shouldn't have to put up with that in downtime. He's going to end up in jail one day.

Riley has anger issues etc etc that no one is addressing. She does this season after season with every group. You can be a assertive woman without being so argumentative. They ask her a question and she takes it negatively and cusses them out. Kate, Courtney and Simone are assertive but are still ladies.. If one of the guys or even girls ask, questions, or disagree with Riley she cusses them out and starts an argument. Her disposition and attitude is not very good....no one should have to walk on eggshells to be around her. Kate did not agree with her and she wanted to fight and cuss out Kate. She doesn't respect anyone above or below her. She works so hard and has so much bloat experience yet she is still a third deck hand season after season because of her bad attitude and being hard to get along with🙄 she should be apologizing for the wrongs she did and work on herself also not just the guys apologizing. Kate, Kevin and Ashton said and did a few uncalled for actions but they were willing to apologize. Before Riley came along the group was so happy. In the beginning Kevin had a bit if an attitude but he was trying g his best to apologize when things happened to keep the peace. ...then here comes Riley with her bad attitude and things never got right again🙄
