A quick look at the newest release of Garuda Linux. Hands down the best Arch distro available today. Now with Latte dock officially out of the distro it seems to run smoother and less resource usage OOTB. Take a look and let me know what you think in the comments below.

I commented a couple days ago that I like Garuda's toolset based on the video and as compared with my previous favorite, MX Linux. But I hadn't installed it yet.
Last night I put a dual boot of Garuda with my current daily driver, Big Linux, on my laptop, and wow! I spent some time before bed going through the feature set, and I have to say, sorry MX. You've fallen off the pinnacle.
I do play reasonably recent shooter games so I get the gamer theme. I was a teen in the '80's when neon and fluorescent was king, so my retinas have not burned out. When I'm gaming I want the fierce desktop attitude urging me on to new glory. So the theme is acceptable for now. But for work it's sort of like wearing short shorts and roller blades with a headband into the office. That can be remedied later.
The toolset is what put it over the top great for me. I love the built in checklist on installable apps. Very convenient. It's as smooth as Big Linux with all these bonus features. I guess I found my new daily.
The only change I've made so far is going with the much simpler UFW firewall.
    Thanks Troy for the review!

I used Garuda Linux for a few months until this year January, It was the only distro so far that I have seen telling me about the health problems of my laptop battery. This should be a standard thing for any operating system. The menu bar got a bit glitchy top left and no logo showed where I had to click to open the menu. Some gaming tools install thins also failed. The biggest annoyance was not allowing me to use the headphones plugged into my standalone microphone which meant stretching the cable the whole time. If will have to check if the new version fixes suh issues. The gaming that I did with my nephew, worked pretty well mostly.

I LOVE this distro. I run it on both my desktop PC and my laptop. I got the Raptor update last week and was happy to see they dropped the Latte dock, because it was constantly crashing, especially on my laptop.
This distro is blazing fast. Perfect for gaming, coding, productivity.
I like everything about it. Haven't had a single problem with it since I started using it about 2 (I think?) years ago.

This is one of the best KDE distros out there. If the theme is too garish for you, just switch to breeze. Gaming on it straight forward and works. Overwatch works perfectly, as well as God of War and many others I have tried both from Steam and Wine. The user focused control center they created for ease of use and for noobs is fantastic. Dude, this IS the distro to go with.

  • @bolski6125

I had some issues with Garuda about a month ago and nothing was working, especially games. My GPU was throttling under games when before they didn't. I decided to try again and re-installed Garuda and after the update, I saw Latte was removed. Thank the Linux Gods! Things are running SO much better. Garuda is still the best distro out there for me.
Something else I noticed after upgrading to this version. I use X11 with my GTX-1660 OC and 3 monitors. Before this upgrade, I would get screen tearing even with vsync on no matter what in games unless I turned off 2 of my 3 monitors.
Now, for whatever reason, I don't have to turn off 2 of my monitors anymore. No more screen tearing in games, etc. I don't know if it's because Latte was removed, or if the latest nVidia drivers are working better? I know the refresh under X11 with multiple monitors has issues because it's trying to refresh all of your monitors as one giant monitor because th'at's how X11 works.
Wayland would work, but things were just very flaky for me under X11 with my nVidia GPU. But whatever was changed/fixed in this latest version of Garuda, I'm very pleased. I really want to stick with Linux as my daily driver, so here's hoping that's what can happen now.

I've been eager to try this but the previous version and this one won't let me connect to Wi-Fi from my laptop. I'm using T-mobile and it's worked wonderfully with at least 6 other distros I've tried it with. T-mobile has been excellent and I recently turned in a 430 DL, 40 UL speed test. Guess I'll wait until the next release and try it again. As an afterthought, I did try Garuda XFCE and Wi-Fi is working fantastically. It's the Dragonized versions that are giving me fits.

      @eBuzzCentral  ปีที่แล้ว +1

If you are doing it from USB, sometimes a quick reboot and it will detect your wi-fi, had this happen in the past, but once I rebooted I was able to connect to wi-fi without any issue from that point forward.

I just gave it another go. Still having issues with install and settings.
It took me 3 times to actually install it as it failed twice. When I tried it the third time (didn't change any settings) it actually installed OK, so go figure? I liked how the welcome screen helps you through installing extra apps.
What I don't like is that for some reason, it's switched @ and " keys on the keyboard? What sort of weird shit is that? I've tried installing various english variants (as it installed english UK) with US and no luck. With the fact I wanted to just go with a plainer KDE version anyway and with all the stuff I need to change in layouts, I think I'll give this a miss and won't be trying it again any time soon.

Hey man. It's been for around two weeks straight I've been trying to install Vanilla Arch but all failed. I tried different images and setups and used different methods but all failed. Finding the answer to the errors and bugs wasn't straightforward and often so complicated addressing the problem. ArchWiki doesn't provide a straightforward method either. In my last try I finished installation but grub bootloader was missing from boot menu so I wasn't able to boot. It literally took my more than 20 hours just trying different methods and frustrated me like I've never been in 20 years of dealing with computer stuffs. Tomorrow I'll give it a last try and if it fails again I'll install Gruda.

I have a laptop for my daughter that she installed garuda on. It is not bad overall, but I want to give some lessons learned:
Garuda is really strange. They use the zen kernel which made the 2 laptops that I used it on unreliable. Random crashes multiple times every day. Changed it to the arch kernel and the instabilities are gone. The distribution lists the normal kernel as "experimental" - WTF?
Other decision they make aren't better, let's not get too deep into details. ZRAM is one of them. Not bad, but as default might be a bit strange.
To sum it up, just use a distribution that has a good reputation, such as
opensuse, debian, fedora, ubuntu, mint and many others.
If you know what you do you can of course take arch, or whatever. But then you will probably avoid garuda.

The aesthetics look like something a 14-year-old might find cool, and the stability just isn't there. I don't recommend installing it, especially if you are a Linux beginner or don't want to jump into the distro hopping hellfire

That's odd that you should say that, because my 16-year-old and 14-year-old use them as daily drivers everyday. And neither one of them have had issues that they couldn't overcome. It's rather easy to use easy to set up and gives you plenty of tools to fix issues should you have them.
