Annie Walker, Deirdre, Bet Lynch, Ken Barlow, Emily, Elsie, Fred, Len, Mavis, Rita, Billy Walker, Ena Sharples, Alf, Hilda, Albert Tatlock, Renee, Mike Baldwin, Betty Turpin, Stan Ogden, Eddie Yeates. It was a dream team.
Gail & Brian were the start of the rot imo.... and nobody could better the Stan, Hilda and Eddie trio. It concentrated on entertaining us back then, I stopped watching in the early nineties, people tune in now for the misery 😢
The double standard of the Brian and Gail story. It was very much like that then, and now sometimes . Ivy was a bitch too, acted like a jealous girlfriend . I read the actresses who played her life story, I don’t think she was much better in real life. She was puddled!
I am really pleased these programs are not lost for ever and you really forget how really entertaining these programs were. Comedy thrown in as well , unforgettable characters !!! Far better than the coronation street these days !!!! That try to keep pace with EastEnders for doom gloom and violence !!!!! It's lost it's comedy, characters and IDENTITY !!!! NO WONDER I DONT WATCH IT NOW ! and I haven't watched it since it changed and it turned into a murder mystery and suicidal drama, a competition in arrogance where sadly lost is respect and friendliness for others , I don't think I am on my own when I say all this !!
This era late 70s-80s-mid 90s was when Corrie became an art form. The great Rovers bar camera weaved its way round from group to group as actors timed it too perfection & the Bet & Alec show behind bar then Hilda & Stan too the Corner shop antics plus Mike Baldwin. It's the only soap I watched. Then the Aussie soaps arrived & Corrie lowered it's standards too meet that Billy can of rubbish & that was that. RIP Corrie.
The Aussie soaps were true crap. It’s a shame Coronation Street was never aired on prime time in Australia as the Australian soaps were in Britain. I can only imagine the Brits liked seeing the sunshine…..It’s marvellous that people take the time and effort to upload this wonderful piece of television history.
Coronation Street is such amazing social history. The storyline about Gail's ex boyfriend totally reflects the social attitudes that were very common back then.
If it had been Suzi instead of Gail who'd snagged R. Brian, it would have been brilliant...I'd have loved to have seen Ivy try to bully HER, or nag R. Brian when Suzi was around. She's no doormat, unlike The Gloomy, Goblin-faced Gail.
Yes that would’ve been a far better storyline… Suzie would’ve cut Our Brian down a peg or two… Like it when she called him Brian The Teeth…😂😂.. And yes she would’ve put poison Ivy in her place too.. and Bert would’ve preferred to look at Sexy Suze instead of Ferret face Gail…
My late MIL was a world class b***h, just like Ivy. My late FIL was a total sweetheart, just like Bert. I loved how Corrie storylines used to reflect real people and real lives, with all the humour that us British are famous for. xxx

Am i the only one who doesn't understand why the men are always falling all over Deirdre? She is not anything special. Also, she's so whiny and nothing ever makes her happy. She also seems lazy - Emily has been letting her live rent-free for several months now and she still hasn't even bothered to find a job or get her own place. Yes, Emily says she doesn't mind but Deirdre certainly takes advantage.
I agree, I think Deirdre became a much better character in the 80s, when she was younger she was a self entitled harridan who didn't look particularly special, so how everyone fancied her is beyond me!

Started watching Corrie during the pandemic. I watched some earlier shows streaming then found 2 of the latest seasons & continue to watch new episodes every day. I have gone back & watched seasons 1975-2020. The earliest season will be my next but they don’t have all complete Seasons. I’m retired but love watching in any order & find them all or be great stories.
I don’t know how you can start at 1975 and not go back and watch earlier episodes to know some of the history of the characters, and know what’s going on.
Ive just been watching the earlier episodes of Corrie from 1960 up to the 1970s & ive got to say Albert Tatlock looks no different from the early 60s! Same with Len, Annie Walker, Ena sharples, ken looks better & not so gangly & studenty! Id love a run down of Corrie actors from back then until 2000, alot of channels do that A " Then & Now" video of certain hit shows! Maybe this channel could do something similar. I bet there are tons of Corrie fans Would like to see what happened to the actors who played such long standing roles & When they died & their ages. Anyway thank you for all these episodes 🇬🇧👧
Ohh it IS wonderful in the Lake District! My life long friend lives just a scant half a mile from Lake Ullswater in a beautiful cottage in Watermillock Ive spent many wonderful visits There, so peaceful & tranquil Theres a tiny village just 2 miles north of my friends cottage called Greystokes & my friend & I are still waiting to see Tarzan swinging along the lanes from tree to tree! Lol There are so many amazing places to visit in the Lakes My friends nearest town is Penrith which is lovely! So great watching these episodes of Corrie! Thank you 🇬🇧👧
Coronation Street 70s and 80s was peak perfection. A pity it was ruined by the later turns it took. I see from the comments that people found Gail annoying during this timeline but I found Mavis much more annoying! A nice person, but that wittering voice drove me up the wall. I'm guessing her actual voice was totally dissimilar, just as the actress who played Hilda Ogden was actually very quietly spoken! Great actors and actresses all of them. 😊

Lynne Perrie was diagnosed later as being bi polar, which explains a lot. There's a good documentary here on TH-cam that channel 4 made about her in 1996 called "Ivy's Ghost". It's worth a watch. A lot of her life was pretty sad.
I've never heard the rumour she wasn't a nice person in real life. She was nothing like her character however, she was very promiscuous and a big drinker.

The thing is though that it was reflecting people's attitudes in the 70s. It seems absolutely ridiculous to us these days, but it shows the huge double standards there were towards women back then.

The story line about Gayles past boy friend is ridiculous and I just cannot list to Ivy anymore .
The thing is though that it was reflecting people's attitudes in the 70s. It seems absolutely ridiculous to us these days, but it shows the huge double standards there were towards women back then.

It is now 2023 and I'm watching reruns of Corrie Street. At first it was interesting and then I realised that these characters lived such miserable, interfering, judgemental lives. In the 1970s, I had no life experience with which to compare but now I do.
