I now live in Wales, also. I'm 74 & just bought a better Electric Bike. This one does go up the hill's although here in the Valley's, they tend to call the bump's either side, Mountain's ! LOL Going up them, feel's like Mountain's.... 40 year's ago, I use to 'Tour' Wales often. Never had problem with midges. (Found them in Scotland.) Wales is a lovely place to cycle. Hill's to view everywhere. The route it look's like you are taking in Scotland is nice. Midges free, they were over on the Western side. I've not watched your video yet, but SAVED IT for another day.
These videos are always the highlight of my TH-cam feed. Your sense of adventure and incredible filmmaking are so inspiring. How you manage to put out such beautiful films while on the road is kind of mind-blowing. Stay safe, guys.

I remember those midges from a bicycle tour in Wales about thirty years ago. They tried getting in your ears, in your nose. It was one awful night in a tent and yes, no peeing. We slept in Bed and Breakfasts for the rest of our holidays.
Another great video. Again, you've really captured the adventure experience soo well. Nothing is worse, than having to ride another 15 km when your sore and tired. You've seemed to struggle sometimes, in Wales, to find that perfect wild camping site. The kindness of strangers is also surprising, but something about being a cyclist seems to elicit this. In this video you've included more of the people you've meet on the way, which makes the experience richer.
Those midges didn't look fun, but the countryside and the people were so beautiful. I really love the relationship the two of you have, and your mutual love of coffee!
When we were ten years old one year was a tenth of our life at that time, seemed like a long time. When we are sixty, one year is just 1/60 of our life, seems very short. This said, I retired earlier this year and it seemed like time just slowed down. Been cycling nearly every day preparing myself for a long trip/adventure next spring. Your videos make me want to get going even more - thanks.

Midges 😃. A couple of tips (although they will nearly always win). No.1 is DO NOT CAMP NEAR WATER, 2- always carry a midge head net, 3- cover every bit of skin possible, 4- keep tent closed and only open if you realy need to, 5- travel late season Oct onwards as more likely to be a breeze - midges then go to ground. Cycled from South to North Wales this summer - it's always uphill, and there's a headwind no matter the direction. The people are so kind though and the nature so beautiful 😍
Ive been in Wales once around Pembrikshire coast hiked from Haverforwdest down to near Skomer island in Dale, I loved there too much, I felt like at the very edge of the wild and windy mystical world from a dragon era. I also went to Nash point cliffs, I truly fell in Love with wild surreaslistic Wales, no wonder even the name sounds like WHALES, I call it WILD WHALES. I am going there soon again this time to explore the whole Wales. PURE MAGIC. Keep going my EU fams. m from Lithuania, amazing jungle like lush country with endless lakes and tallest trees, nature like that from an old painting!

I'm lucky enough to live and daily cycle in Ceredigion, so glad you found it friendly as we are !! Yeah the midges, I love all creatures but they do test you. Scotland has a fair few as well. Grab some Vicks vapour rub most shops sell it. You possibly have it in your country or something similar it's for colds etc but the midges don't like the menthol. Thank You for this upload. That's absolutely true about time speeding up when you do routine days. When you are young everything is new and exciting but as you grow older you get into a routine, your life is more settled. Routine is the enemy of time. That's why what you are doing will keep the wonder fresh and therefore the time slow. I try to do something new every week, go to a new place, try a new food, etc. to keep time from flying by.

Yes, long time ago (1985) we cycled in the south of England and Whales as a sort of try-out for our biketrip to Israel. We just did a small part of Whales but enjoyed it very much as we did in the south of England. Although, we weren't prepaired for the hills as soon as you leave the ferry in Dover. Asked people every night if we could pitch our tent in their garden or meadow. Never any problem and we were often invited in their houses to have a shower, eat together and have breakfast the next morning. Lovely people on the other side od the North-sea. Enjoy your trip. I really agree with you on time on a tour. I'm just back from a 2 week cycle tour across Portugal and Spain. It really felt more like 2 months. Love your tour videos.
Love your latest video guys. About time slowing down, think of it like this: The more differences/new experiences in your day, the more "folds" to your memory. Each fold makes it feels longer to get from time A to time B. Basically, the more folds in your life, the better.
so glad that you two embraced my home, coz it will embrace you back and reward you ten fold. As somebody who's biked many of the countries that you guy have over many years including Himalaya, through India and down to Indonesia and Europe to Israel, i can tell you, i have a wry smile on my face, because i get to sneak away for a few hours at least 3 times a week and just have my mind blown by my county Bucks and the Chilterns, while many are walking along just looking at the pavement. If you get the chance one day, please try the cosy side (especially the south east) including the Ridgeway Trails, i honestly find myself not knowing whether to laugh or cry at some of the views and that's after being above the clouds looking at Everest. A beautiful video of beautiful Wales. I think your route will also take through Yorkshire/Borders region which is also stunning although 25% hills are common. It is a shame that you are not doing Scotland north of Edinburgh but presume seasons intervened? Scotland is the ultimate in what the UK offers! Best wishes. .

They must have had a deal with mosquitoes in NL. We got badly bitten on our recent cyclecamping trip to your lovely country. Croeso i Gymru.

@@WheelstoWander I got a funny look from a dog walker :) Other than that no, I barely saw anyone else. I cycled past the spot, went for a beer in Barmouth, cycled back and waited at the picnic table until near dark before pitching the tent. It was a beautiful scene as dusk fell. Then packed up early in the morning. The next day I cycled to a campsite south of Mount Snowden and walked to the top by mid-afternoon. That was a great trip. I'm glad you both enjoyed your journey :)
sleep high up in the hills to avoid the muskitos, spoke to a guy who went bikepacking in the scotish highlands and down in the vallys you get eaten alive but higher up not that much
Hey Dollgelau. Went there 35 years ago and had a cold reception. It was a time when people in Wales were angry at the English buying up all the land. I’m Canadian, I explained to some local toughs and had a beer with them. I recall the town name is pronounced doll-geth-nee.
Guys, your journey through Wales is incredibly beautiful. We were there just few weeks back and it was already quite cold to camp, but you are not hindered by it, so brave! You chose the best places to cycle in Britain and Im sure you will be looking out for only positive experiences. Wales reminds me of New Zealand where people will invite you into their homes, lots of hills, and midges! Great video. I've often wondered what I'd do if I needed to pee in the middle of the night and it was chucking it down with rain (or midges) outside. We just make sure we don't drink an hour or two before bed and that's worked okay for us so far. What do you guys do? Pee bottle?

25% sounds impossible to me. The worst we had on our cycle tour through Europe was 12% and I struggled with that!

Can't believe you cycled the Gap, the roman road to Brecon, I live close to it and have done it many times on a full sus mountain bike and that is hard, then you went up the Devils Staircase, 25%, you know how to suffer, enjoy the rest of your trip, Chris.

I think it depends on all the impressions you get all the time. You see new things all the time, and experience new things with all your senses. At home, everything is often casual. I have been out cycling touring for 4 months this summer. When I look at cards a month ago, it feels like years ago. Amazing. So I think it has to do with all the new impressions. The brain is busy keeping up.

Yes, long time ago (1985) we cycled in the south of England and Whales as a sort of try-out for our biketrip to Israel. We just did a small part of Whales but enjoyed it very much as we did in the south of England. Although, we weren't prepaired for the hills as soon as you leave the ferry in Dover. Asked people every night if we could pitch our tent in their garden or meadow. Never any problem and we were often invited in their houses to have a shower, eat together and have breakfast the next morning. Lovely people on the other side od the North-sea. Enjoy your trip.

Love your latest video guys. About time slowing down, think of it like this: The more differences/new experiences in your day, the more "folds" to your memory. Each fold makes it feels longer to get from time A to time B. Basically, the more folds in your life, the better.

As somebody who's biked many of the countries that you guy have over many years including Himalaya, through India and down to Indonesia and Europe to Israel, i can tell you, i have a wry smile on my face, because i get to sneak away for a few hours at least 3 times a week and just have my mind blown by my county Bucks and the Chilterns, while many are walking along just looking at the pavement.
If you get the chance one day, please try the cosy side (especially the south east) including the Ridgeway Trails, i honestly find myself not knowing whether to laugh or cry at some of the views and that's after being above the clouds looking at Everest.

A beautiful video of beautiful Wales. I think your route will also take through Yorkshire/Borders region which is also stunning although 25% hills are common. It is a shame that you are not doing Scotland north of Edinburgh but presume seasons intervened? Scotland is the ultimate in what the UK offers! Best wishes. .

Great to hear that you enjoyed Wales. You certainly found one of the best Cafe stop in Dolgellau. The hills are all part of the fun but the midges are definately not. They must have had a deal with mosquitoes in NL. We got badly bitten on our recent cyclecamping trip to your lovely country. Croeso i Gymru.

@@WheelstoWander I got a funny look from a dog walker :) Other than that no, I barely saw anyone else. I cycled past the spot, went for a beer in Barmouth, cycled back and waited at the picnic table until near dark before pitching the tent. It was a beautiful scene as dusk fell. Then packed up early in the morning. The next day I cycled to a campsite south of Mount Snowden and walked to the top by mid-afternoon. That was a great trip. I'm glad you both enjoyed your journey :)

Hey Dollgelau. Went there 35 years ago and had a cold reception. It was a time when people in Wales were angry at the English buying up all the land. I’m Canadian, I explained to some local toughs and had a beer with them. I recall the town name is pronounced doll-geth-nee.
Perhaps the sentiments have changed... 🤞🏼 We had a lovely but very short time there to be sure. All the best, E&M
Guys, your journey through Wales is incredibly beautiful. We were there just few weeks back and it was already quite cold to camp, but you are not hindered by it, so brave! You chose the best places to cycle in Britain and Im sure you will be looking out for only positive experiences. Wales reminds me of New Zealand where people will invite you into their homes, lots of hills, and midges! Great video. I've often wondered what I'd do if I needed to pee in the middle of the night and it was chucking it down with rain (or midges) outside. We just make sure we don't drink an hour or two before bed and that's worked okay for us so far. What do you guys do? Pee bottle?
