Love the video, the one con I was surprised you didn't mention was the lack of resources for those struggling with mental or physical health. Due to the short length and high stress of each term, becoming seriously mentally or physically ill means that you basically have to drop everything and go home on a medical leave, since the college is super strict about grades and extensions, and because missing as much as a week in some classes can guarantee a C. And God help you if you become mentally ill because the college counselors are horrible and overworked, and the counselors in the area don't take insurance and charge huge rates. I met SO many students that had to take a huge amount of time off or just struggle in silence because of a lack of official support and resources. I straight up think it's becoming an epidemic. But honestly Dartmouth is not different from other colleges in this. I just wish that we'd be better, since we have the funds.
ah thank you so much for mentioning this!!! I'm actually really frustrated at myself because I talk to my friends about this all the time, but I guess in the flurry of filming and editing I totally forgot so I'm glad that you're able to bring it up! I personally have no had first hand encounters with Dartmouth's mental health resources (or lack thereof) but definitely have seen how horribly they've treated good friends, which is kind of shocking considering how much money we have lol. Are you a current student?
You think the work world will be much better? If you have a full time job and you have a mental/physical issue, you'll be going on short term disability and theres a decent chance your job will be in jeopardy after a month. Just being honest.

wait that's actually insane. and hey there's always scholarships/ financial aid! don't need to rule it out too soon! though I definitely understand how the financial barrier is super high here :(
I went to Dartmouth without having to pay a cent in tuition thanks to my parents income being under the cutoff ($100,000). Just apply, apply for tons of scholarships, and contact the financial aid office. They'll work with you.
I recruit students for admissions, I am am alumna and I am also part of the admissions team every year, so your video is very helpful feedback. Thank you for making it 🌲

Lebanon, West Lebanon, White River Junction, and many other cities are closer to Hanover than Boston is. West Lebanon is about 9 miles away from Dartmouth and it has every big box store you can imagine, plus a lot of smaller places like comic book stores, a guitar shop, a Five Guys Burger, Gamestop, and they even have a card store for ccg fanatics. There's like a two-mile strip of nothing but shopping centers. There is a public theater in Lebanon which is the smaller adjunct city to West Lebanon. There's also far more parking spaces in all the surrounding communities than in Hanover. If you go to this school you won't be out in the middle of "nowhere." West Lebanon is so overbuilt that there's barely any trees at all in the entirety of the city, and you get traffic jams everyday in the commute hours. Yes, Boston is the "largest" city close by (two hours if you drive by yourself). It also has the most crime and instability of any community in this area. West Lebanon even has an airport which you can see private jets fly into all the time because they make such a huge racket while passing over the Price Chopper parking lot. It's impossible not to notice them. If you take the time and plan correctly so you can bring or get access to a car here, you'll be fine. Hanover itself has plenty of things going on, and you should be busy studying most of the time anyway. SLACKERS!
Hi! Thank you for making this video :) I just got accepted to Dartmouth for c/o 23, and I'm so excited!! I'm low-income and working while in college is something that i'm interested in, but Dartmouth is very remote. In your experience, how easy/accessible is it to get a part-time job in Hanover?
ah congratulations that's amazing!! so there's actually a TON of job opportunities in Hanover, largely bc the school employs a lot of students!! there are TA positions, research positions, work in foodservice, UGA positions, tutor positions, so it's actually very easy to find jobs that suit your interests and even academic subjects.
there will be a student faire in the beginning of fall that advertises what jobs are available on campus, and I highly recommend asking your UGA or any upperclassmen who have jobs how they got their jobs since sometimes you're more likely to get one when someone can refer you
I agree with just about everything but the food off of campus because considering most of NH, the town of Hanover is a food mecca. Starbucks is the only chain "restaurant." And this winter wasn't that bad. :-)
I've always been fascinated about American Universities especially the Ivy League. It's kinda of too late for me to persuit a college degree now anyway since Im already 36 years old dude and I just never had the opportunity to enter the United States. You seem like you could be a filipina one of the reasons why i was so interested when i saw the video thumbnail. Greetings from the Philippines.
Really enjoyed your video! My daughter is a ‘22 and she “LOVES!” Dartmouth!! She is so happy!! When we went on our school tour after, visiting 5 other schools, I knew instantly it was for her. How many schools can get the Empire State bldg, Niagara Falls, and the Capitol buildings lit up with their colors for an inaugural year!! That’s Dartmouth connections in a nutshell. ❤️
fell in love w darty through your vids and wanted to know if you had any advice on what to include in a LOCI for someone who got waitlisted (:/ the school hasn’t taken anyone off of it for the past couple years, but figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask!)
of course! ah that's hard bc it's different for everyone, but I think the ones I've heard about people getting off all include something supplemental/ outside the box. So more than just a letter, I've heard about people writing funny things like poems about why they want to get in, or including supplemental material such as an additional letter of rec or a reel/ portfolio if you're an athlete or artist of some sort! sorry I can't provide any guarantee that's just what I've heard of tho!
I've been watching your videos since my sophomore year!! You have always been one my of inspiration to apply to Dartmouth. CANT BELIEVE I AM NOW AN 23' NOW!!!!
OMG AMAZING CONGRATS!! wow that makes me so happy to know you've stuck with me so long!! it really means a ton to me :') so excited for this next chapter for you!!
I visited recently as my sister was going back to school, (I do not go to Dartmouth but I want to go there in the future) it’s a great school in my opinion but very remote
aw thank you!!! ahh congratulations I'm glad to know my videos are helpful!! lmk if there's anything specific I've never done before that might be helpful!
thank you so much for making this video!!! the only thing i’m worried about when applying to dartmouth is the drinking culture: i don’t want to be forced to drink to make friends, (are there other ways to make friends other than going to parties) and also the diversity: is it just mostly white people there?
so glad you enjoyed! ah I get this drinking question a lot. I think media often inflates the influence of drinking on social life in college. Yes, people drink, but I've never encountered someone who thought less of me because I didn't drink a lot. College is WAY more than parties so of course you make friends outside of parties, and honestly parties are the worst place to make genuine friends haha. If you want to look up the racial demographic of dartmouth, it's published on their website. Like every ivy, it's mostly white, but that's the racial breakdown of many colleges as well as the greater united states. I think they can definitely do better in terms of diversity, but I had no problem finding really strong non-white communities that I loved!
Hi! You excited me a lot about Darmouth, really. I feel so moved each time you talk abou how it gave you a home, friends. And well, I wanted to talk abou the fact that students come back to Darmouth in my essay. It is a lovely demonstration of how together the community is. I think you mentionned it in one video, but I can remember which one (I have already been searching it, but I can't find that part). It was something about welcoming the new students too... ahh but I can properly remember. Could you telll me about it, please?
I loved your video! Dartmouth is my dream school and I'm applying to it right now actually. But I was wondering if pharmacy is a pursued major at Dartmouth? I've done some research and saw that the pharmD degree was offered but a pharmacy major was not available on common app. I just thought it might also help to ask a student that attended :)
great q! pharmacy is not a major at dartmouth! there's a premed track, but that differs from majors and people can pursue premed without being a major in a scientific area too, you just have to balance your courseload if that makes sense!
Hi there! Thanks for your video! I have heard a lot about grade deflation at Dartmouth, and as someone who wants to go into law, and since GPA is a very important factor in applying to law schools, I was wondering how bad is the deflation at Dartmouth?
I'm an '18. It depends on the department/class/professor. In general, econ and STEM and most cs classes are deflated. For example, as an Econ major, many profs started off the class by saying that only 10% of each class would earn As and A-s in order to preserve Dartmouth undergrads' competitiveness to the top grad programs (Dartmouth does not offer A+s, only academic citations, which are generally offered far less frequently than A+s at other schools, and are only granted if you basically get 99%-100% in a class AND if a professor offers it AND if they like you. The prof has to justify it in writing to the school).
Leroset Oh crap I wanted to do something like PPE😂now I suddenly don’t know what to do....Do you know if grad schools consider Dartmouth students’ gpa with... I don’t know...more generosity?
Your GPA is 50% and your LSAT score is 50%. In general, people spend a lot of time studying for the LSAT. A HLS student, Dartmouth undergrad, has some great TH-cam videos. Everyone knows Dartmouth is a great school, for an Ivy bottom feeder, JKNR. Hey it requires more work than Brown, doesn’t it ??
ooh so actually freshmen don't get to choose where they live - it's randomly assigned! but i'm actually doing a freshman housing review rn so that should be up relatively soon :)
Hey Joelle! Thank you so much for posting this.. it was super helpful! I’m a Pakistani girl and I got into the CS master’s program with a concentration in digital arts. I was wondering if you’d know anything about funding options? They did grant me a scholarship but I still can’t cover the tuition even with a job :/ the financial aid department doesn’t fund this apparently. Thanks again!
I did the CS MS and was able to easily fund my living expenses with an industry internship (scholarships have historically differed). The workload is quite high since you can only enroll in CS courses and the quarter system compresses the courses. The only funding options you'll have would be a campus job or research with a professor but the research has the benefit of potentially counting as a credit. The graduate student experience is nothing like the undergraduate experience, particularly because they don't have to exclusively take 3 CS courses a term.
hey girl - congrats first of all that's amazing! and thank you, Casey, for providing extra insight - definitely more helpful than I could offer as an undergrad
This was 4 years ago so I'm not sure but when I go to the Hanover / Lebanon area there's still a handful of decent options for diverse food. Over in West Leb there's a few Turkish, Vietnamese, Caribbean and Mexican restaurants and a couple small Chinese and Indian grocers that carry some more obscure ingredients.
Hey! Do you think that international students get into Dartmouth harder and get scholarships harder? Also are there are a lot of international students? Great video btw
thank you!! to be honest, I don't know the current acceptance/ scholarship rates of international students. I do know though that I had a lot of international friends. you can probably find the exact statistics online though!
I just watched this video because I’m a junior applying next year. Dartmouth has always been my dream school and the only thing I’m really scared of is making friends... I’m pretty social but I’m scared to not find my place and not have that “college experience”... do you have any tips?
haha first piece of advice is to slow down bc there's nooo help in worrying about something so far in the future that you presently can't do anything to help/ change. and also to remember that you're going to be joining thousands of other students in the exact same position as you looking for the right people! rest assured you will find people to grow with!!
oh OMG HAHA I WISH very sad to say this is not a dorm - this is my bedroom at home. I do have dorm tours though! so feel free to check out any of them to see what an actual dartmouth room looks like
modified majors are when specific majors let you combine majors with another department. you have one primary major that is most of your classes and then whatever major you're modifying with is the secondary major and you take fewer classes from it. more details are on dartmouth's website!
We now return to DARTMOUTH! DARTMOUTH! HE’S GETTING AWAY! Stand clear! I know what to do! *pukes darts at bad guy* *OW! POINTY!* Sorry, that pops up in my head every time I read about Dartmouth (which I’m well aware is NOT pronounced like dart and mouth 😛). For those who don’t get the reference, search “sbemail underlings”.
Hello, I'm Nivedita from India, I am expecting a positive decision from Dartmouth as a transfer applicant(will be entering 2nd year). I also have a confirmed seat at UCL London in BASc program Hello joelle are you the one that attended Dartmouth uni? Your channel is one of the reasons I applied to Dartmouth I have a few questions if you don't mind answering them Will there be a significant difference in feasibility of availing oppurtunities between areas such as New Hamsphire in US vs London in UK. Is that difference between rural and urban areas significant which led you to pick uni in an rural area? If you had to choose between an ivy league such as Brown or Dartmouth vs UCL what would you choose excluding the tuition fee as a considerate factor? In U.S a lot of colleges / unis are more liberal arts based while it is not necessarily so in the U.K. Its common for ppl in U.S to change their major atleast once before graduation? In U.K one does need certain amount of clarity as to what they want to pursue. Do you feel like liberal art institutions at U.S offer more breadth allowing students to explore when compared to U.K which might give them an edge in terms of whether any subsequent career choices are more likely to be globally optimal or meaningful. This is because you would have a broader knowledge of the landscape the world has to offer. OR Do you think London would provide a better horizon to seek more oppurtunities when compared to New Hamsphire? Though D-plan is flexible does the short terms due to quarter systems often leave students burnt out that they can't really make use of off terms ? For the distribution requirements, do you feel like they were helpful or do you feel like you did'nt really see a point in completing a course which doesn't really fit your majot? Sorry for too many questions since I come from a second world country these things make a huge difference in my college experience
I rly wanted to watch this video cause your storytelling is great but the background music is just really annoying in this case. You should either turn it down or not have it at all =/
hi! i recently heard that dartmouth is not a safe place for females (lots of assault and vulgar behavior during rushing) and that it is quite misogynistic. is this true? dartmouth has been my dream school forever and it was disappointing to hear this.
ah yeah dartmouth definitely doesn't have the best history. however, I'll say that very unfortunately, a LOT of schools have exactly the same culture and situations, Dartmouth's are just heavily publicized by students and in the news. I can't say for sure how instances of sexual assault/ misogyny differ across campuses, but I will say that I appreciate that dartmouth students are vocal about it being publicized so that the school is pressured to take action.
this is quite good, thanks, but the music is awful and distracting. Don’t you trust yourself to be interesting enough without some dumb background muzak?
All due respect, but when you've been in the real world and had the shit kicked out of you every single day, the things you hate about Dartmouth wont seem so bad!

there will be a student faire in the beginning of fall that advertises what jobs are available on campus, and I highly recommend asking your UGA or any upperclassmen who have jobs how they got their jobs since sometimes you're more likely to get one when someone can refer you

@@joelleolol May I ask if there are any film related jobs or media industry jobs available in the area
This videos Definitely helped me decide which Ivy leagues to apply too. Thank you🙂
I'm so glad!
I’m a freshman of high school and my dream school is Dartmouth. Hopefully I’ll go there someday!!
I believe in you!!
I agree with just about everything but the food off of campus because considering most of NH, the town of Hanover is a food mecca. Starbucks is the only chain "restaurant." And this winter wasn't that bad. :-)
haha yeahh definitely just depends on where everyone is from and what they're used to
There isn't a good Mexican place anywhere nearby. And no, Boloco doesn't count lol.
You aren't too old
Really enjoyed your video! ❤️
Haha yes the impact of Dartmouth alums is truly shocking to me! Such a special place I'm so glad to hear she's enjoying it!!!
if u went to a boarding school dartmouth is basically an extension of boarding school for adults.. lol thats how I always think of it
A bit of feedback, your background music is really distracting.
This video reminds me why I wanted to go here for college😊😊 I'm going to work hard to get in.
awh so glad to hear!!! you got this!
Really enjoyed listening to your thoughts! Good stuff! 🙏🏼👊🏼
aw thanks homie!! appreciate it! :)
crew hat, DW watch, so much ohsean, love it
I just got accepted!!
Tobi387 Whoooo! awesome! ❤️
aHHHHHH CONGRATS!!! so amazing you should be so proud!!
fell in love w darty through your vids and wanted to know if you had any advice on what to include in a LOCI for someone who got waitlisted (:/ the school hasn’t taken anyone off of it for the past couple years, but figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask!)
of course! ah that's hard bc it's different for everyone, but I think the ones I've heard about people getting off all include something supplemental/ outside the box.
I visited recently as my sister was going back to school, (I do not go to Dartmouth but I want to go there in the future) it’s a great school in my opinion but very remote
haha oh yeah it's definitely far out there
Idk Boston is 2 hours, nyc is 4 & Hartford is 2.5. That’s not that far for New England.
Thanks for the vid! Can’t wait till August!
ofc!! excited for ya!
Your videos are THE BEST!! Your advice is going to be specially helpful this fall #Dartmouth23s
aw thank you!!! ahh congratulations I'm glad to know my videos are helpful!! lmk if there's anything specific I've never done before that might be helpful!
Great video. Really enjoyed your perspective.. Thanks for sharing.
Well you are in New Hampshire and Hanover is like a village not a city lol.
I grew up in Grafton before I moved out if State.
Live Freeze then die.
hahahah yes hanover is teensy. and that's cool!
thank you so much for making this video!!! the only thing i’m worried about when applying to dartmouth is the drinking culture: i don’t want to be forced to drink to make friends, (are there other ways to make friends other than going to parties) and also the diversity: is it just mostly white people there?
so glad you enjoyed! ah I get this drinking question a lot.
Aw so glad! And hmm are you referring to trips? Or orientation?
@@joelleolol Mmm can I ask for both? :,)
@@joelleolol thank you so much!! 😊
A very helpful description of the pros and cons of going to the Big Green.
aw thank you I'm glad you found it helpful!
Where is more good to live in dorm or rent a flat.
there aren't many off campus housing options and they're not very nice - definitely recommend dorms!
Spill the tea 🐸🍵🍵
hehehe u already kno ;)
I'm moving to Dartmouth, CA soon and I thought this was about that until I realised it was a video about a college in the US called dartmouth 😂
hahah yes unfortunately quite different! sorry for the confusion!
Just got into Dartmouth '25😁
OMGG CONGRATS I didn't even know people were finding out this early!
@@joelleololtyy I applied thru QuestBridge so it was like Early early decision lol
me too!
What are your dating preferences?
love the music selection
haha thanks!!
My advice: maybe go for an unorthodox major for a pre-law student (so not necessarily gov) but supplement with law-related gov classes.
Hey it requires more work than Brown, doesn’t it ??
i was just there!!! 😹 i live in NH and was just at dartmouth hospital
aw no way! haha it's a very cute town!
@@joelleolol 🥺💛
I'm 13 and I kind of want to go to Dartmouth
it's a great place!
Got deferred by Dartmouth..what are my chances? Should I ED2 somewhere else?
I'm coming darmouth in Sept 2022 and I'm so excited
omg so fun congrats!
What housing locations do you recommend for freshman?
ooh so actually freshmen don't get to choose where they live - it's randomly assigned! but i'm actually doing a freshman housing review rn so that should be up relatively soon :)
Joelle thanks!!
Hey how was your experience with the csda program? I am looking into it too? How do I make my application strong enough to get in?
Dartmouth is my dream school ❤️
Im working as hard as I can to get there.
aw sending u love and prayers!!!
This video was very helpful and unrelated but you are so pretty
aw thank you!!
By the way what sports and athletic activities are supported by your school?
This was 4 years ago so I'm not sure but when I go to the Hanover / Lebanon area there's still a handful of decent options for diverse food. Over in West Leb there's a few Turkish, Vietnamese, Caribbean and Mexican restaurants and a couple small Chinese and Indian grocers that carry some more obscure ingredients.
I got to hanover high-school and I'm applying to darthmouth
Im about to go to hanover high school what is it like
awesome video! very helpful :)
amazing! so glad you found it helpful!
Hi from Cornell!! I wanna visit Dartmouth SO bad, haha
hi there!! haha definitely pay a visit - maybe not during winter haha but spring and fall are beautiful!!
omg she looks like Jeongyeon from Twice!!!!!!!!! OMG im about to subscribe!
AW omg I'm honored ty!
How has no one mentioned Meredith Grey yet.. hello?! Her ratty Dartmouth t-shirt!
Why the fixation on the race and gender of the professors, as opposed to how good they actually are?
Hi, What is your favourite class in economics and who is your favourite professor and why?
I loved intro to finance (econ 26) with Professor Zinman!
Hi I’m a senior now I got accepted hbu
Please tell me that is your dorm, It looks amazing! If those are the dorms I'm going 😬😬😬
oh OMG HAHA I WISH very sad to say this is not a dorm - this is my bedroom at home. I do have dorm tours though! so feel free to check out any of them to see what an actual dartmouth room looks like
Thank u for the informative video, although the background sound was unnecessary
eyyyy I hear Poter Robinson's music in the background! nice taste!
The background music is disturbing!!
I knowwww :( I edited without headphones I'm so sad but next time I know! Hehe
could you explain modified majors a bit more please?
Are modified majors extremely broad? Per se architecture and biology? Idk just like to completely unrelated fields?
modified majors are when specific majors let you combine majors with another department. you have one primary major that is most of your classes and then whatever major you're modifying with is the secondary major and you take fewer classes from it. more details are on dartmouth's website!
You must be excited about congratulation?
aha if you're talking about graduation, then yes! but nervous/ excited!
Is Dartmouth in New Hampshire?
yes!
@@joelleolol Had no clue, I'm from here too smh. Thanks
Why the hell should Dartmouth ask students who gets tenure? uppity!
What professors did you want to have 10 year? or can you not talk about that.
Sorry, but I felt that the music was too loud.
me toooo I'm very sorry this is what I get for not having headphones when I edit T.T
I really want to apply next year but i’m #broke loll

We now return to DARTMOUTH!
DARTMOUTH! HE’S GETTING AWAY!
Stand clear! I know what to do! *pukes darts at bad guy*
*OW! POINTY!*
Sorry, that pops up in my head every time I read about Dartmouth (which I’m well aware is NOT pronounced like dart and mouth 😛). For those who don’t get the reference, search “sbemail underlings”.
your voice your looking your smile are really cute ever.
Please remove the background noise. You don’t need it. It’s distracting and interfering.
Hello, I'm Nivedita from India, I am expecting a positive decision from Dartmouth as a transfer applicant(will be entering 2nd year). I also have a confirmed seat at UCL London in BASc program
Hello joelle are you the one that attended Dartmouth uni?
Your channel is one of the reasons I applied to Dartmouth
I have a few questions if you don't mind answering them
Will there be a significant difference in feasibility of availing oppurtunities between areas such as New Hamsphire in US vs London in UK.
OR
Do you think London would provide a better horizon to seek more oppurtunities when compared to New Hamsphire?
Though D-plan is flexible does the short terms due to quarter systems often leave students burnt out that they can't really make use of off terms ?
For the distribution requirements, do you feel like they were helpful or do you feel like you did'nt really see a point in completing a course which doesn't really fit your majot?
Sorry for too many questions since I come from a second world country these things make a huge difference in my college experience
Interesting background music..
sorry i was young and inexperienced when I edited this years ago ahahaha
@@joelleolol its not really bad. just interesting lol

@@joelleolol Awesome! 😍😍
hi! i recently heard that dartmouth is not a safe place for females (lots of assault and vulgar behavior during rushing) and that it is quite misogynistic. is this true? dartmouth has been my dream school forever and it was disappointing to hear this.
ah yeah dartmouth definitely doesn't have the best history. however, I'll say that very unfortunately, a LOT of schools have exactly the same culture and situations, Dartmouth's are just heavily publicized by students and in the news.
All due respect, but when you've been in the real world and had the shit kicked out of you every single day, the things you hate about Dartmouth wont seem so bad!

omg congrats!!
I give up, can’t understand what you are saying, because of the loud irritating background noise. BTW, I am a D alumni.
