Actually they are all landmark names, no station is named after a politician or any other person. It just happens for the entrance to be on a road or in a neighborhood or near a landmark that is called like that.

Greek Politician. 3. 25th MARCH the name of the nearby road of the Greek Revolution. No landmark. 4. ANALIPSI the name of the nearby Church of Ascension, and the road in front of the church, so both landmark and road. 5. FLEMING the name of the road given to Alexander Fleming. Scottish pharmacist. No landmark. 6. EFKLIDIS the name of the landmark Euclid Institute nearby. No road is named as such. 7. PAPAFI same as ANALIPSI. The landmark is the orphanage and the street named Papafi in front of it. 8. PANEPISTIMIO same as EFKLIDIS. only the landmark of the University. No street has the name University. 9. SINTRIVANI same as above. Only the landmark of the Fountain. No road has such name. 10. AGIAS SOFIAS both landmark of the 7:55 and the road in front of it. 11. VENIZELOU only the street named after the many times Greek Prime Minister Eleutherios Venizelos. Greek Politician. No landmark. 12 DIMOKRATIAS only the landmark of "Democracy square" above no street name. 13 N RAILWAY STATION only the landmark of the railway station. No street name. So what are you talking about. Thank you! We all know how many problems the construction of Thessaloniki metro faced. Now we have the result and, personally, I really like this metro. I have been to many metro systems in Europe and Asia. Thessaloniki metro - is a very nice example of using modern technologies and remembering the history what makes this city transportation unique. I am satisfied. In the future I am waiting for new lines and stations. Hope it will take less time to develop existing metro :)
maybe some day the Greeks will find out that in English you do not translate the Greek difthogous as ...ei...ai.....etc...it does not make sense...Veria is not VerOIa!!!
I don't like the whole outcome in total. To an extent, I am really disappointed. Taking consideration, this is simultaneously the by far the most expensive metro subway in the world per kilometre with 300millions/km, in comparison to 110 millions/km in average worldwide, they ridiculously narrow stations. What is it at voulgari station from one side to the other, less than 5 metres? The wagons are I guess approximately 1metre narrower than the average wagons e.g. in Berlin, Pyongyang and New York. Just 4 wagons instead of 8 in a scheduled central line of a 2 millions city? It looks more like a underground tramway in dimensions of a Czechoslovakian tram Type Tatra regarding the wagons and stations in dimensions of suburban Bielefeld. To avoid the unnecessary delay due to the archaeological discoveries they could have built it 50 metres deeper like in Moscow, Prague and Pyongyang for example. Money was spent enough, over 3 billions Euro for less than 10km. But the project wasn't the problem and so expensive if you see the result now. This result for this price is scandalous and happened to monstrous corruption. Instead of being proud of this, this is an embarrassment for Greece and it's responsible governments and builders. Less than 5 metres distance in voulgari station from gap to gap, while also contracted with additional stairs and lifts in the emergency lane...? This is insanity, and can be only praised by those, who don't know better.
1) Moscow, Prague and Pyongyang doesn’t have huge earthquakes. It very difficult to build metro very deep in earthquake zones. 2) Moscow is 16 times bigger than Thessaloniki and still has narrow stations. 3) The wagons are average. In Dubai they are more narrow than in Thessaloniki, for example. 4) About the price: I am wondering how to count the price in communist regime in Moscow. Do you think Stalin built stations counting money? 5)Metropolitan population of Thessaloniki is around 1 million. Not 2 million. 6) Thessaloniki is disabled-friendly, automatic and trains are coming every 4 minutes. All this number are much better than many historical metros. 7) Archeological sites are helpful to invite tourists and metro in Thessaloniki can be a real landmark for now as we discovered a lot during the construction. Of course corruption is a big problem in Greece and in Europe in general. But the result is very nice. And soon the second part of the metro will be opened. And remember that 3.24€ Billion euros includes future stations and trains already. Stay positive!
@simonkranz25 1) Chongqing, Teheran, Istanbul and Santiago de Chile are in earthquake zones and are built much deeper. Actually it would be much cheaper to build deeper, avoiding to reconstruct preexisting underground infrastructure close to the surface plus the archaeological discoveries which lay down in between 20 to 30 metres.
@simonkranz25 2) There is not a single one station underground in Moscow such narrow as Voulgari station gap to gap less than 5 metres. Most Moscow stations have 3 arcade tube galleries, two platforms and and one middle alley. Gap to gap sometimes more than 20 metres. More than 80 years ago in Soviet union a directive was passed that every city with a population over 1 million inhabitants must have a underground subway. That's why even cities like dnjepropetrowsk today dnjipro and Gorki today juzhni nyvgorod have metro since decades.
@@simonkranz25 3) please compare to Berlin U9 and U7 line waggons, Pyongyang and New York. Thessaloniki Metro is not average. It's like a tram from Czechoslovakia type Tatra.
@@michelangelos-pizzeria I was born and lived in Moscow with my family. I know history of Soviet metro. And there are stations, for example, Volgogradsky Prospekt that is just 6.5 meters wide.
Well, as I know North Macedonia is 33 years old. Before it was a region of Yugoslavia, before part of Bulgaria and so on. I can agree that Greece occupied part of collapsing Ottoman Empire. But old lands are recognized by UN. So now the biggest part of Ancient Macedonia, part of Hellenic states is under control of modern Hellenic Republic.

Scandal after scandal... only to have one line... Regardless, your intro is enchanting
@@simonkranz25the delay is due to the usual suspects.
@lilyk1231 yeah :( but finally it’s opened!
@@simonkranz25 yes indeed and I’m so happy and proud.
Nee Danke

maybe some day the Greeks will find out that in English you do not translate the Greek difthogous as ...ei...ai.....etc...it does not make sense...Veria is not VerOIa!!!

there are already problems of the metro and its not even a week
Which problems? Tell me more about them, I would like to know. Thank you in advance!

MACEDONIAN CAPITOL GIVEN TO THE GREEKS BY ENGLAND, GERMANY AND FRANCE IN 1913 SO IS OCCUPIED BY THE GREEKS.
Come visit brate, you will never see such a thing in your poor country:) Unless you live in Canada or Australia like all skopian nationalists 😂
