You actually are supposed to start the blender upside down to get the blade going and then you flip it right side up. I love using mine, it's great for on the go!
I have the BlendJet 2 and I don’t have to start it upside down. Never had the first one but I’ve heard the second is more powerful and is also slightly larger. I love mine, I can pop all the ingredients in it and then take it with me to work.
