These dudes were our heroes when we were teenagers in the 80s. This song was our anthem one of our many anthems. So many memories. They'll never ever ever be another 80s especially in this crazy messed up decade right now. Rock on. ✌️🤘

This music was considered "rebellion music" by some of our parents. My parents sure didn't like it, and especially didn't like it when me or my siblings turned it up too loud in the house.. They were worried about disturbing the neighbors, but we wanted our neighbors to hear it! Lol, and that's where this cliché was born: If it's too loud, then you're too old. The 80's had some of the best music, and not just rock music. There were other "Hair Bands" just as loud and outrageous from that era, as well as Country, R & B, and the beginnings of rap music in the late 80's and early 90's. You'd probably like it. :)

Also think it's why Gen X is the way we are. A lot of our music, television, etc. was about getting it done and dealing. We are quiet for the most part, just keeping our noses to the grindstone and doing what needs to be done, but when the time comes we will stand up and say it. We're not gonna take it. Perfect example is we had this. Today they have Shake it off. Same theme, Different attitude.

  • @anessalyn1035
    @anessalyn1035 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Most don't listen to the lyrics, they focus on how the band looks. Thank you for truly understanding what this song was about. Dee Sinder, the lead singer was extremely intelligent and yes he took on congress to speak out against censorship of music that members of Congress deemed inappropriate. Congress didn't know what make of Snider, he sure wasn't your average heavy metalist.

This is such a great song. Dee Snider (the lead singer of Twisted Sister) redid this song a couple years ago as more of an acoustic ballad and put cancer patients in the video. It’s really great and touching. You should also find on TH-cam the video of Dee testifying before Congress I believe in the early 90s.

Their popular stuff (were not gonna take it and I wanna Rock) are pretty much their corney songs. Their better tracks, that actually have some substance, are much of their unknown stuff...
    Kill or Be Killed
    Burn in Hell
Like a Knife in the Back
    The Beast
    Stay Hungry
    The Fire Still Burns

    Hi Greg...
In the early 80's I was looking at the sayings and signatures in my son's current school year book...I came across "Twisted Sister"...
Man I'll tell you I was ready to hand out some butt whipping !...
My son explained it was a band name and not someone calling him a name...I was shocked..relieved and confused..lol...what a crazy name for a band...
Thanks for the reaction...see ya soon..👍😄...🌿🌿🌿

It's fine to call them a band or group with this type of music, most people sort of interchange them. Specific examples of both: an orchestra would be a type of band, and a cappella singers with no instruments would be a group. By the way, I did not mean this to be condescending. Thanks for your reaction.

There! That oughta keep you busy for a while 😁. Also, be sure to pull up the lyrics when checking out a lot of these tracks, as many of them have deeper meanings within the songs. In addition, it’s usually best to start off with the studio versions, as much of the little nuances get lost in the hype and background noise of live performances. Best of luck on your metal journey. Dee said he and the band wrote this song at a very down point. They had just been released from their record label, Dee and his wife were expecting their first child, and the holidays were coming up. They were mad as hell and weren't goung to take it anymore. He said thevwords and music just flew out and the song was done rather quickly. It encapsulates their feelings at that time. They were able to get a new record deal, and this became one of their biggest hits.
