      It’s a fun, different take on a gathered dress and it was a really easy sew except for meeting the gathered skirt and the front piece at the two front corners. It wasn’t even too hard- just finicky.
      She keeps asking to sew more! Today we laid out the bits we’ve pieced and *that* was an exercise in patience. It’s been so fun having her help though!

      Thank you! I'm so pleased with how the stripe play turned out. The only think I didn't think through was the sleeves. I didn't try to match them, but I also didn't make sure that it didn't look like I tried and failed, so of course it looks like the stripes in front SHOULD match, but don't. oh well. I still love it!

    That blouse is beautiful Erin! I've never sewn french seams. I have to try it. OMG I love the stripes on your Artisan dress. BEAUTIFUL!!! Chef's kiss!! Brady is going to be a quilter. AWWW. Keep it for her if she wants it! She's going to be addicted. Awesome! She reminds me of my granddaughter who always wants to sew with me. She can thread all my machines and even my serger. So fun! I love the fabric for Brady's swimsuit. STUNNING. I want to make S9929 too. I don't know when though. Congratulations on teaching garment sewing. Very fun and exciting! You're going to be great. Thank you! The hardest part of sewing french seams is remembering that you're going to do it, and putting the fabric WRONG sides together on the first pass.
      Brady has been LOVING sewing and keeps asking to do it more. I'm impressed that your granddaughter can thread your serger! That's a tough skill for most adults lol. I hope you have a great weekend and I've been keeping sweet Zoey in my thoughts.

      Hi Erin! Thank you for sharing the update on the Rhapsody sleeves. I have a question. Did you add to the seam allowance? If so, how much? I love your comparison! lol! Give the sewing gods your tucks! 😂. What a sweet thing to have Brady help you with the ghost quilt. That is so sweet! 💜. Such a dilemma we all have with not wanting to stop at bed time! Cute dress! So great that your class is already sold out! Her swimsuit is going to be adorable! I don’t have the patience to cross stitch! That’s a long time on a project! It will be beautiful when complete! The standing tall will be beautiful! I got one shirt basically done. Had to make a trip to town for something I forgot something. Hopefully the other 3 will come together today! Have a great weekend!

      @normacooper6377 Thank you! The blouse took a bit of a meander east over the weekend (my MIL lives very much west of us) but is allegedly out for delivery today.
      It's so special to sew with my wee one! She asked to sew a few more times over the weekend and we were able to get all of the initial piecing done. She keeps asking to sew the little fabric again, so I need to get the pieces pressed and ready for the next round of piecing!

    • @ErinSews
      @ErinSews  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @angiemcconnell9070 Oh great question! I did NOT add to the seam allowance, but I SHOULD have. My only complaint with this pattern is that they should have made the SA 1/2" for the armscye like they did for the side and underarm seams. Even if they didn't want you to french seam the armscye (which I don't understand either, I guess to make the difficulty rating lower? but as it turns out, french seaming an armscye is VERY easy. anyway...) then a 1/2" SA would at least give people an easier option. Unfortunately, I didn't really think ahead. I made it work just fine with 3/8" SA but 1/2" would have been ideal.
      Ah yes, the extra trip for a forgotten bit! No project is quite complete without that one side quest 😂 Brady and I got the first round of piecing done on what is now her ghost quilt, and she keeps asking to sew the pieces again so I need to get them pressed and ready for the next round of piecing ASAP!

      @@ErinSews awe! What special times! I ended up stopping in the middle of the my 2nd top this weekend because without a lot of table space to lay things out, I managed to twist something around when pinning one of the front panels and didn’t notice it until I was ready to top stitch . I got it ripped out but left a few tiny holes in the fabric I wanted to reinforce those with knit stay tape, which was also at home, so I waited until I got home last night and that got it fixed right up. Now I’m waiting for a trip to Joann’s to get bulky nylon for my cover stitch in more colors than black. I only need white but with the buy3get3 sale this week, I think I will get a few more colors. Hope you get that pressing done 😉. I still think I will knock out all those tops by the end of this coming weekend. Have a great one!

    Your mother-in-law is going to love that Rhapsody blouse!!! That color is so beautiful. I'm very impressed with the stripe matching on your linen dress. You definitely deserve a pat on the back because that is not just about precision sewing but precision cutting as well. Well done!!!! @@ErinSews I've had packages tour the country before they arrived!?! I am sure your mother-in-law is going to be thrilled!
      I'm just making short sleeves on the Cadence dress. This was a remnant from the thrift store so my fabric is limited. I think I'm going to have enough fabric pieces to cut bias ruffles for the sleeves, but I might be cutting it too close to make a small bias ruffle on the neckline. I've put off cutting the bias strips because I really want a narrow neckline ruffle by my gut says that is never going to happen.

    • @ErinSews

    The blouse is lovely! I have tassels on a RTW top and honestly, wasn't sure how to wash it and keep them from getting messed up so I think she'll be fine w/o them. Your new dress is great! So nice Brady is getting a chance to sew 😄! My MIL bought a stamped cross-stitch tablecloth when she got married that took 25 years and 5 kids to finish. I'm doing some needlepoint now but because I do it at the end of the day when I'm tired, it is verrry slow going. Cross stitch is even a little more slow for me b/c of having to keep referring to the chart whereas the needlepoint canvas is painted. I am cutting out a Vogue tank top (V9258, which I've had and not tried) while catching up on TH-cam! Congratulations on reaching 2K - people know what they like 😉!

    • @ErinSews
      @ErinSews  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That makes me feel better about not adding the tassels! They are definitely a fussy trim.
      5 kids! What a big happy household. I’m impressed that it ONLY took her 25 years with all the other stuff she must have had going on.
      I do find the constant referring to the pattern annoying at the end of the day, when my brain is also worse at remembering things. I like the Carolyn Manning pattern because it’s repetitive and I don’t have to reference nearly as much.
      Have you had a chance to make up the Vogue tank? I looked it up and really like the style lines in the front.
      Thank you!

    • @MaryCunningham-u5j

      @@ErinSews My MIL also worked full-time (outside the house 😆 - she was already working more than full-time inside the house!) once the kids were all in school. I love the repetitive nature of needlepoint and cross stitch because it's a way of relaxing that yields something attractive - after a year or more, sometimes less than a year, of course! Ah, the Vogue 9258 tank...which I believe is pretty much New Look 6781 now. It's another example of how I can take something easy and turn it into a weeks-long project. I made a toile from an old sheet and the armholes were too low and I adjusted the pattern, but there are two extra triangles for the shape on the sides instead of just two side seams. They had to be adjusted, too, straining my brain. The fabric was a remnant of a rayon/linen blend from Joann - already on sale, then an additional 75% off remnants so it was about 2.50 for more than a yard. Greed kicked in and I thought I'd get a great top for next to nothing, but it was really hard to fit the pattern pieces on that remnant, and it turned out there was a small spot on the fabric that won't come out (since it was rolled up in the store and you're not supposed to unroll remnants, I didn't know). I thought I'd cut the front in a way that the spot would be turned under for the button placket, but not so, and that was the only way the pattern would fit on the fabric. Did I mention the fabric frays like crazy so I'm using French seams for everything? And I don't like store-bought seam binding and am not sure I can get enough bias strips from the scraps to make seam binding? And I could probably go out and buy a tank top for 5 dollars at a thrift store? But I'm too far in and too stubborn to give up now! I am going to wear this thing no matter what. The next project is going to be an easy win, I swear!!! Thanks for listening 😂!. It really is a cute top, though, and not just the classic woven tank top I've made so often - you know, the easy ones...

      @ErinSews  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MaryCunningham-u5j okay you had me chuckling so hard with this saga because I've TOTALLY been there.
