I love doing both at the same time. I did some funerals & wedding this way.
I started doing this a few years ago with a Panasonic GH3 (photo & video) & a Canon XA20 (video only).

Dude, great points. I'm seeing a lot more photographers starting to offer highlight films and looking into video. Definitely seems to be moving toward the hybrid all rounder, although as a wedding videographer i would still advocate a dedicated videographer over a photographer offering highlight vids 😉. Also agree about couples loving the film more AFTER the wedding. Major respect if you guys can do both photo and video at the same time though!!

Thanks Adam! I do agree about having someone dedicated, but it's honestly so hard to convince couples to hire a proper video team sometimes. I think when we do highlights its because they are only like 50% committed to wanting a video. Then like you said, after the wedding they see the true value of it.

Taylor Jackson sure can be! Guess our job is to educate couples.. I shoot solo and super discrete/relaxed so once I’ve explained that, most of my potential couples feel reassured. It definitely seems to be the go to style now in the uk at least. Thanks again 👍

I'd love to do a little video too on a wedding day but its enough work editing all the photos never mind video too! Great video though, makes you think.

Thanks for this video. I'm curious, when shooting videos and stills for a wedding, are you using the same camera body for doing both? Or using 2 separate camera bodies? If using same body, do you have an external microphone attached or simply use the built-in camera mic? For recording the vows at the altar, are you hooking up a wireless remote lav mic to the groom or officiant? Or recording B&G vows from a distance? Ever thought of using a Smallrig cage to hold multiple accessories such as a shotgun mic and LED light in addition to a speedlight flash? I'm curious to know, thank you!

both is possible. but it comes down to budget and quality and consistancy. it is possible, but doing both will get burn out long term. at the end, high paying client wont get quality.

john ung we deliver consistent quality. For high paying, if a client has $10,000 to spend on media, usually they’re hiring a full video team as well

Taylor Jackson ... yes its possible with a team. a team. but NOT 1 photographer trying to do both photo and video charging $10k+.

    • @TaylorJacksonPhoto

john ung I’m saying that if someone has 10k to spend, they’re probably looking at the best of all video vendors in the area. Shooting photo+video coverage simply gives the couple an easy (and financially responsible) way to have both. It pushes your skills as a story teller, makes your couples way happier, and also makes you more money.

Taylor Jackson ... 1 photographer trying to do both photo and video is good for marketing and when client dont have budget for video. video is bonus.

You can buy an atomos monitor to record your screen to make content videos.

Ordered a Ninja Star! So will have this going soon. Apparently it needs a CFast card, which no one in town sells. So it'll be Monday/Tuesday before I have that system up :(

But is it profitable? Couples pay you more to shoot both, but then you have to pay someone to edit the video, which I imagine is not a small task.
