I didn't remember windows has this amazing troubleshoot tool. Where recovery tools recovered only 3 files. These techniques bring back the whole things by not damaging anything. Feels like nothing happened to disk.

Currently I have three 8 bay mini-servers(non-raid) connected to computer and for some reasons some of my hard drives that I shuck(Seagate) and place in the bays read as RAW but when I connect them (daisy chain) to another external drive, they read fine. I have about 35 HD's connected to my computer now.

Thank you so much, this solved my problem! An entire partition became RAW after a data migration failure. I tried chkdsk /r and left it running the entire night and it didn't work; but I tried your method and the problem was solved in less than 5 minutes and no data was lost! Thanks again!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! You outline basically a three step process. My drive was accessible and repaired again after applying only the first two! NOTE FOR PEOPLE WHO TRY THIS: The command prompts here were exactly the same as I encountered, but some of the other prompts/screens I got were SLIGHTLY different from what's shown in this video. I assume this depends on which version of Windows you're running, but you'll figure it out. Don't panic; this works. My situation was: I use Windows 7 but my external hard drive failed when using it on a Windows 10 machine; when I plugged it back into my Windows 7 laptop, the RAW error occurred on BOTH machines. What is annoying to me is that when I did google-bing searches for fixes to this problem, all of the search results were for data recovery software and services that co$t dollar$ (or €uros or whatever your currency is). I couldn't believe that there wasn't a free fix online and that the only way to restore a readable file system on this drive was to pay to have a "professional" do it or buy a $75+ piece of software that I'd use, basically, one time. I'm sharing this video on my Facebook and other social media in case others come across this problem and will also share it in a blog post. When I got the error (ironically with an external drive that I was using for backing up files "in case my C drive failed") I was pretty much sick and horrified, and the steps in your video worked perfectly. Thank you again!!!
I'm not an IT person, but I do have enough computer experience to tell the difference between a working hard drive which simply has a corrupted file system (which is what the fix in this video addresses) and a hard drive that's just plain broken. If you run these fixes and still can't access your drive, it may just be that your hard drive is broken. Try a data recovery service.

The title has RAW file system in cmd file system is NTFS . 👎 slow down video speed in 1:04 you will find the file sys is NTFS chkdsk not working on RAW type. shame you.
I just tested it and it worked to a degree. It only recovered some images. I'm still missing video files, games, etc. If you assign a letter to it, it can work, I suppose.

After watching about 15 videos, your style worked. Thank you so much. It did not require whole process, with chkdsk method it showed the file content although file type was showing as raw.
I've searched the web for many hours, have no idea how many, but waaaay to much. I've gone through many different "solutions" and none have fixed the issue. Right click on Raw drive - allocate drive letter
Now you'll be able to run chkdsk on that drive

I've searched the web for many hours, have no idea how many, but waaaay to much. I've gone through many different "solutions" and none have fixed the issue. I had so much files in that ext drive that I hade to solve the problem, and not format the damn thing.

Sir, that chkdsk /f and then entering the drive letter save me! EVERYONE NOTE: THIS WAS AN EXTERNAL SEAGATE HARDRIVE! My sister is going to have a beach house party for the 4th of July 2022 and I was lending her my music collection. Then BOOM! I could not acess the external drive and worried here until your video save me! Thank you Sir!
