I have recently started rescaping my aquariums. Im changing my 29 gallons decorations from an artificial look to a natural one. Also I am finally getting around to taking the pink gravel out of my 5.5 gallon.
Omg who mixed fresh and salt???? WHY?!?! It irks me when I see like fish “art” where there’s guppies and clown fish swimming together but I didn’t know people tried it irl 😭 Also the reason why I can’t watch Finding Dory cause they act like the fish would be fine hopping between the ocean and a mop bucket and a water bottle..... 😒

William Brooks you are completely right. Their natural habitat is in swamps and estuaries. They live in brackish water. But they can live in all three environments.

Sweet water comes directly translated from the german term, "sußwasser" or "susswasser", and it means freshwater. So the plant, susswassertang, literally translates to freshwater seaweed if you ever wondered.

We got about 5 male guppies from Petco. The first night one was killed but by what we didn’t know.... the next day we sat there watching the tank for hours to see why. We noticed the smallest guppy of the pack was chasing all the others and nipping fins. Unfortunately that meant he had to be returned. We told the employees he was very aggressive and basically drowned one of our others. About two weeks later we went back to the same Petco and noticed he was still there but he was in a tank separate from the other guppies, and was in with silver dollars, which where all in the back corner scared. The employee that day said he was in with the rest of the guppies but kept killing all of them so she put him in with the bigger fish to kind of scare him I guess. I don’t think they’ll ever sell little Ted Bundy.....

My favorite pizza place near my house has a huge fish tank near the door, always super clean and well decorated. Not 100% natural design but still very nice. It’s maybe very slightly over stocked but honestly the best fish tank I’ve ever seen in a restaurant.

I used love working at bass pro shops were we kept saltwater stripers and redfish along with large and small mouth bass bluegill wich the 40 pound striper absolutely loved.You can do a lot with 15,000 gallons and 1,000s more in the back along with computers and a experts maintaining perfect levels constantly and consistently.

Let's not forget that even the ocean has a divider in it to separate the 2 ocean water types. You can literally see it yourself and you can look it up. So during Noah's ark I'm sure there was a fresh water area for those fish separated from the rest of the sea.
If you acclimate them well enough (6-7 hour drip acclimation) some livbearers can live in saltwater, it bleaches their colours though
The lionfish is fine, they naturally like to wedge themselves into tight spaces on the reef as a way to catch small inverts/fish. Generally however, they will swim around and are rather active, but when they want to chill they will find a small space to wedge themselves in.
(Not all blood parrots are red in colouration, and there's loads of different colour morphs out there. generally they are orange/red, but they can also come in yellow, black and white as well naturally.)
(Sweetwater usually refers to freshwater, as some direct translations of fresh water translates into sweet water. I think German is one example of this, but I know there's other languages that do the same!)
But 100%, saltwater/freshwater best kept seperate unless the fish can handle the differences!

I went to a pet store to get some stuff for my pets, I was getting new filter cartridges and looking at some plants, and a worker asked me what I was buying them for, I said my betta and she proceeds to lecture me about how bettas don’t need that stuff, and told me that my tank was too big after I told her it was in a 5 gallon. She then proceeded to tell me that her bettas were all in 1 gallons and it was more than enough space for it 🤦🏻♀️ She then showed me pictures of her tanks, there was bright colored gravel and bright hides and bright fake plants, and half of her bettas were laying sideways on the bottom, poor baby 😢

I have this super small beta tank I found at my local Asian market. The thing is MAYBE 0.2 gallons, and came with a plastic divider that splits it down the middle. I use it to house my baby African fat tail scorpion 😂

I'm not actually too surprised that the Gar was still hanging on. Where I live in the general Houston Galveston area we have a large body of water we typically refer to as the ship channel, which is made up of a few bays where all our rivers and major bodies of water drain into which is sectioned off more or less by the barrier islands on the coast. I fish the area pretty regularly and on occasion catch Gar of varying species in the main body of water, however these are always caught pretty far "upstream" but still in very much brackish water. With how high the salt content of those tanks probably are I give the Gar another week at most.
There's also different salt levels in the ocean. You can actually see the oceans borders in some places due to the differing density & salt content of the waters. I also think there is fresh water pockets that've been found in oceans/seas. So... Not all water is the same is a very vivid fact. There's pockets of salt water so dense and acidic that it forms it's own under water 'lakes' & kills anything that swims into it in minutes.

Bought a 55 gal from an absolutely horrible home, the person there literally didn't care to drain it or remove the FISH AND TURTLE OUT OF IT, and the water was more murky than the river near there, we brought it home, and we made our own stand, and made it into an actual aquarium. (It took about a month to clean it and get it safe for fish...)
I always hate watching these videos because I'm jealous af of everyone's planted tanks lol
