The U.S. and China relationship is one of the most complex and consequential relationships of any that we have in the world today. The U.S. is determined to avoid conflict or a new Cold War with China, says U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, during a major China policy speech at George Washington University. What he said right after U.S. President Joe Biden wrapped up his first presidential trip to Asia. So what are the key takeaway from the speech? What does the U.S. want in Asia? And what future headwinds might the U.S. face in the region, especially when it comes to competing with China?

The “international order” that Blinken defends is the same one under which:
    - USA sanctions countries that do not comply with its foreign policy decisions.
    - USA overthrows foreign regimes it doesn’t agree with.
    - USA causes massive death and destruction all around the globe, like in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen, etc.
    - USA (and NATO) antagonized Russia for decades leading to the current Ukraine war.
    - USA (and NATO) interfere in China’s domestic matter over Taiwan.
Shouldn’t somebody (like China) improve on the current international order?

Shameless propaganda wars is what it takes for people not even considering the reality of any of this, which is going to drive the whole planet into extinction 'cause the us is going like: "am I willing to live in a world where I don't rule and can't do my bidding left right and center as I please anymore? That makes me feel very insecure so I'm going to blow up the planet" as Michel Hudson said. Cause the beauty of this is they can always blame Russia or China for it, and most people will unfailingly believe their propaganda. It's sick.

It's the same order that facilitated the economic rise of China. How about sharing credit as well as blame? Watch out when leadership cannot admit mistakes. It's puts a whole country on a self-defeating path, separated from truth, unable to adjust to reality, i.e., self-defeating. The Soviet Union's leadership did that to itself. Gorbachev was too late. China can self-defeat, too, but its leadership would never believe that could happen, until it does, without war, just economic collapse. The collapse of the Soviet Union as the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th Century (hubris?) The collapse of China as the greatest geopolitical disaster of the 21st Century. The key to achieving that is for China to blame everyone but itself, to think itself perfectly innocent, to remain silent in the face of truth of its own circumstances. It is a disorder of some leading minds.

@@timtrewyn453 Ok I have trouble understanding what you typed but regarding the very first lines... there's no "credits" to be given here per se, since it's very obvious ONLY way China or any other power could've arisen is playing the US game, the only one allowed, and lo' and behold, they're beating them at their own great game of capitalism*. So if you come here saying "it's because to the us" uh.. yeah, otherwise it would've been squashed trying going another path.

How can there be a peaceful coexistence when one side imposes sanctions or uses sanctions as a threat? The public opinion of the U.S. shapes the view of people and is used as propaganda. This can also be seen in the situation regarding Russia.

    • @tonespeaks
      @tonespeaks 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@Azul Celeste China imposes sanctions on other countries. This is a tool many nations use and have used since the beginning of time. Some people here saying that the Western countries would still be against China if they adopted Western civil liberties.
In my opinion this is not true. These people are using Russia as an example of a country treated unfairly.
The opposite is the case. Many people gave Russia a very wide berth and didn't dare research the truth behind the way the Kremlin operates.
China, and those people, who deny that Vladimir Putin runs his government in complete opposition to civil liberties, by stealing from his population and murdering his opponents, are truly lost. There is a big limit to whataboutism, because these behaviours are the very opposite to civil society.
Boris Nemtsov, who opposed the eroding of civil society, the bombing of apartment buildings in 1999 to win approval ratings for Putin, and all the rest of it, lost his life for doing so.
What China should also note was that the West won the Cold War. Every leader after Brezhnev admitted error in the communist ideology, right up to Putin who criticised it entirely, apart from the civil liberties part.
The issue with Chinese style communism is that is NOT a fair play system, if you want to be completely objective, in comparing it to other systems.
By this I mean it leverages its huge population and all sorts of loopholes jumping with abandon through every human rights due process to achieve its goals.
Even if Trump was over the top in many areas, he most definitely UNDERESTIMATES how much intellectual property was gobbled up by Chinese with absolute no consideration for the fairness of such practices.
Even a very simple person can lift the answers from another person's exam sheet and make no effort themselves.
Do you think that if the West didn't decide to tear up its various rights and inbuilt procedures related to it's workforce, intellectual property, outsourcing, protectionism, and all the rest of it, it couldn't create a veritable blitzkrieg of unbridled economic growth?
In US/China relations, there is the 'Thucydides trap' aspect. Then there is the aspect of USA throwing it's weight around without the utmost consideration. Then there is the aspect of China genuinely playing the game unfairly. All these elements work together.
To reiterate the above. China must surely heed that the West did win the Cold War. Communism was proven to be a farce and a facade.
Yes, the free world has had and has many evolutions to go though, but the gong has already rung. Communism, with it's lack of human liberties, has been proven to be a failed system.
China is squeezing all that it can out of this backwards system, which people didn't realise, until now, has a 'get rich quick' button on it. However, if China doesn't start looking forward to how they must change their system in the long run, there is absolutely no doubt that China will suffer the fate of all the major Soviet ideologues, when you strip away the face and lies that it really works.

Prof Huang is 100% spot on. Blinken's China policy speech is too insidious to be dismissed. He is using the opportunity: (i) To slander China as not conforming to International order. Note: US international order is US rule-based order, & Not UN international order (ii)To allay ASEAN's fear of direct confrontation with China, their biggest trade partner. Note: what ASEAN wants is peace, elimination of poverty & prosperity. Not war with China.(iii) To re-assert American zero-sum mentality, ie. China is welcome to compete, confront & co-exist with America, but only on US terms. That is:--- I win you lose.
It is too late. The dice is cast. There is no turning back on US-China relationship. China has been fooled & strung along for too long. Now China has to formulate a new strategy: ---semi-decouple from America & focus on Asia, ASEAN & Eurasia, like never before.

Today in Seoul, Blinken's speech has shown the real colors of the USA. He uses 3 keywords: "INVEST, ALIGN, COMPETE" (If we use any historical fact we can translate it by "weaponizing public opinion", "Invasion of a country", "Corruption of the local government").
His speech goes as follow: "We" are not looking for conflict or a "new cold war". To the contrary we're determined to avoid "both".(To me the words "conflict" and "cold war" are a repetition.) We don't seek to block China from it's role as a "major power" (The meaning is very clear as to say China is inferior to the USA) in order to "STOP" China or any country for that matter, from growing their economy or advancing the interest of their people. (Remember what happened to Japan's economical growth since the eighties? The USA sanctionned their economy by weaponizing public opinion, saying the Japanese, were colluding with Russia and threatened to military punish them but chose to corrupt their government. And let's not forget what happend with Huawei...)
"We" stand to increase our communication with Beijing across a full range of "issues" and "we hope" that that can happen( Same as Japan but with no threat for the actual military power of China). "BUT" we cannot rely on Beijing to change it's trajectory. So "We" will shape the strategic environment "around" Beijing to advance "our vision" for an "open inclusive international system"...(It is clear that by shaping the strategic environment he meant HONG KONG, AFGHANISTAN, TAIWAN, XINJIANG, MYANMAR, INDIA, KOREA, JAPAN and so many other Asian countries who are subject to the control of the NED an other undercover organization/hub paid by the 2 billion dollars funded by the USA to stop further Chinese economical development.)
I'd like to express and stress out the fact China has a different non invasive policy. It offered underdeveloped countries opportunities as equals, whereas the USA used military force to subdue other countries for its own interest. It is America once again who started to play a war of misinformation claiming the Chinese are the origin of any problems in the world. Let me remind you it all started the day China decided for ecological reasons to refuse any plastic coming from the USA. Having no solution to their domestic avidity, the country suffers from this great backclash and uses any means to force China to "open America's inclusive international system"...
By extrapolation we can compare China with the USA with numbers as 5 to 1 in terms of population. Shockingly if China had the same internal governemental policies, the country would have suffered 5 million deaths of COVID in comparison with the 1 million deaths in the USA.
So you decide which goverment cares more for its people...

Imagine if all international trade did not use USD in transaction, trade used the commodity's origin currency and vice versa using the commodity buyer's currency. The US is provoking so that it doesn't happen. Provocations also benefit for US, many countries will owe the US for large arms purchases.

Hi - watched the Blinken speech ….riddled with double speak and hypocrisy. As a New Zealander feel ashamed that we are increasingly aligned with this divisive rhetoric. As we know the origins of action lie in our thoughts and mindset. It’s apparent that current US foreign policy actions belie their separatist thinking ….Rounding up its “Allies” (in the case of South Korea and Japan read colonies) against China. The tragedy is we could be making wholly different choices based on a different mindset - towards collaboration and the greater good for humanity versus this medieval thinking. ordinary people don’t want this, business people don’t want it …it’s coming from a very small group of security ideologues that control this agenda and amplify it through their control of western media and military. Shame.

WW2 was ultimately decided by Russia destroying the NAZI war machine and finally moving against Japan. Japan surrendered when the Russians started moving against them not because of the Nuclear weapons.

Liu Xin is a great commentator. Prof Nolt basically said 'Ignore Blinken' who is still in a cold war mindset and somewhat disconnected from corporate america, a Dept of State bubble (except for the military industrial complex that adores Blinken). The US does not walk the talk so rules for them are for others and for itself only if it suits them. This lacks a principled approach to foreign affairs and their meddling in other countries affairs (ie Ukraine), shows they have a lot to learn about the principles of democracy and respecting sovereignty. I see them as insecure, the word 'threat' keeps coming up, competing rather than collaborating, talk about the 'international order' which is code for 'our way or the highway'. This is all the insecure talk of a nation that is still juvenile and engages in proxy wars everywhere. They have no idea how to create harmony, no idea. Perhaps the military industrial complex is making too much money to ever consider harmony?

BEIJING, April 11 (Xinhua) -- NATO should immediately stop spreading disinformation and provocative remarks targeting China, and abandon the confrontational approach of drawing ideological lines, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Monday, adding that China has lodged solemn representations with NATO for many times.
Spokesperson Zhao Lijian made the statement at a regular news briefing in response to NATO secretary general's groundless accusations and smearing against China.
Zhao said that, for some time now, in disregard of facts, the head of NATO has been making false remarks on China's foreign policy, hyping up the so-called "China threat" theory and has recently engaged in coercion against China.
"China is strongly dissatisfied and firmly opposed to this, and has lodged solemn representations with NATO for many times," he said.
    赵立坚表示,作为冷战产物和全球最大军事联盟,北约长期固守旧的安全观念,以“旧冷战”的手法搞阵营对抗,沦为个别国家谋求霸权的工具。
As the world's largest military alliance and a product of the Cold War, NATO has long adhered to its old-fashioned security concept, engaged in camp confrontation in the old Cold War way, and has become a tool for individual countries to seek hegemony, Zhao said.
    北约口口声声称自己是“防御性组织”,实际上却在不断地制造对抗、制造事端;北约要求别国遵守国际关系基本准则,却肆意对主权国家发动战争,狂轰滥炸,导致无辜平民丧生和流离失所;
NATO claims to be a "defensive organization," but it is, in fact, constantly creating confrontations and disturbances, said the spokesperson, adding that the organization demands that other countries abide by the basic norms of international relations, yet wages war and indiscriminate bombing against sovereign states, killing and displacing innocent civilians.
    北约明明是北大西洋的军事组织,近年来却跑到亚太地区耀武扬威、挑动矛盾。
NATO is clearly a military organization in the North Atlantic, but in recent years it has been throwing its weight around and stirring up conflicts in the Asia-Pacific region, Zhao noted.
    北约持续突破地域和领域,鼓吹集团对抗的“新冷战”,国际社会对此理应高度警惕并坚决反对。
"NATO continues to break through geographical and territorial boundaries and advocates a new Cold War of bloc confrontation. The international community should be on high alert and firmly oppose this," he added.
Zhao emphasized that China has always been a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development and a defender of the international order, and will unswervingly follow the path of peaceful development. China's development means opportunities for the world, instead of a threat to anyone, he said.
    赵立坚说,北约已经搞乱了欧洲,不要企图再搞乱亚洲,搞乱全世界。
NATO has disrupted Europe. It should stop trying to destabilize Asia and the whole world, Zhao said.

N@TO was created to attack the uprising communist movement, which became quite popular after the WWII, for example, the Italian communist party almost won the elections in 1948, but USA meddled in their elections to prevent that. As far as I read that happened 3 times in Italy.
The USSR (Russia) happened to be the most prominent representative of the communist movement, hence the focus was mostly on them, but the alliance (N@TO) was created against the communist movement in general.
Now that China is not only the representative of the communist movement, but a successful and fast progressing development wise manufacturer of nearly everything, they became a bigger threat to USA than the "old try and true" enemy Russia.
The interesting fact: USA Loved Russia while it was ruled by tzars, they even traded Alaska for pennies deal with Russia in those days, because it was favorable for both countries vs the British Empire interests. It's only after the Bolsheviks won in the October revolution of 1917, everyone, who was rich, freaked out about their capital and the ostracizing of Russia began.

Hey, how else could we explain to our citizens of our mounting national debts, the huge disparity between our rich and our poor, our mass shootings crisis, our massive homeless crisis, our sky-high inflation, our unaffordable healthcare system, our mortgage crisis, our citizens can't afford to pay rents, our children going hungry, our seniors can't afford medicines, our involvements in endless wars that are responsible for 82% of all wars in the entire world since WW2, our ballooning military budget that takes half of our GDP, our dwindling social security funds, our citizens can't afford to pay for food, our schools are failing our children, our two-party system causes people to fight one another, our police commit crimes against minorities, our indigenous people are dying off, our billionaires are owning everything and controlling our government, the corruptions within our government are the worse in the entire world, and people are catching on to our lies, hypocrisies, and our joke of a democracy! Hey, there's no way in hell we're gonna explain those things to our citizens! So you better be ready to be our scapegoat again cause stirring up racial tension with you Chinamen are the best way for us to escape the wrath of our citizens for the crappy job that we are doing in DC! Hey, enjoy the anger and hate you Chinamen are gonna face from our wonderful American people! Bye bye now! Hahahahaha, sucker!"

The Cold War was sometimes cooperative, sometimes competitive and sometimes adversarial. And this was with USSR and NATO in equilibrium. China’s rise means the Cold War relationship can not be in equilibrium … therefore, the new Cold War is doomed to become much more adversarial and much less cooperative. Sadly, most people do not benefit from this power struggle at the top of the food chain.

I can very well understand Liu Xin's irritation. The adjunct professor (??) is simply unable to put forth a good analysis and speaking in simple tongues. Wonder how panelists are chosen by media and specifically by CGTN. I really like lie Xin and Guan shows which brings more non-western thinkers and we get greater diversity than the others such as Tian Wei, Heat, Dialogue, etc. Liu Xin has to be most prolific of all. Keep moving, I say!

Over here, I think Ms. Liu Xin is overly concern of the words Blinken had for its domestic audience. The two guest speakers were right that we should not look too much into "we're the best workers". Every country's leaders would say that of their workers, so let it be! China's workers had shown to the world their capabilities and that's more than enough. Show by action, not words!
