I have a 2010 mana, I love it. It is continuously variable transmission ( CVT ) There is NO gearbox. However you have the option to shift ratios which feels like gear changes but without the clunks of gearbox machines.I mostly use touring option fully automatic for seamless acceleration up to top speed ( approx 120 mph ) You can shift ratios using left foot lever or thumb shifters on left handlebar. Good storage for gloves etc in dummy fuel tank. Fuel tank and filler cap is under easily operated hinged seat. Handles quite well with an excellent front brake. Primary drive is belt and final drive is chain. Great bike !
@@brianwiseman9518 actually good question.I love the Mana it can keep up with just about anything with the 850 in there. It’s very nimble. It becomes a bit heavy at low speeds in traffic and really becomes much like a cruiser.Maintenance is pretty general and is a dream on the highway and back scenic roads. It a little tight with a passenger but no complaints from my riders.I will say switch the stock headlight with a silver light Led.I have a bad boy air horn on mine because the bike is so dang quiet with the stock exhaust its sometimes scary to be heard. All in all I’m in love with it..
I think Aprilia would be offended by your description of their Mana:- 1) it is NOT a scooter engine. 2) It has a normal motorcycle gear-box. 3) The gear ratios do not alter the power as you say, but the gears shift at differing speeds.
I rode a suzuki burgman/skywave 400 for three years. I test rode the 850 Mana gt. Guess what? IT AIN'T A BLEEPIN' SCOOTER. It looks like a real motorcycle. It rides like a real motorcycle. It handles like a real motorcycle, only with the DC shifting. Whoever thinks that this is a scooter needs to be gut punched. I'm not buying the NC700 because there's issues with the DCT...as it's brand new. Maybe another year.
BigJoe you know the new 2010 VFR1200F is a six speed automatic? Such systems have been around for quite a while in racing cars. New technology! Also the computers can shift better than us humans.
I do not consider the Mana GT to be a scooter. Having a DCT transmission does not make a bike a scooter but a motorcycle without the need of a manual clutch. I see a scooter as a bike you can step thru or sit on with both feet side-by-side. Neither engine size or transmission differentiates between a scooter of MC. Wind noise was horrible at times making audio useless.
@BigJoeRup Also both Honda and Aprilia have identified that the motorcycle market has been in decline because the technophonic old men who love their old harley (the category I imagine you fall into) are too getting too old to ride. Motorcycles like the VFR1200 and Mana are intended to make riding more accessible to new riders. People don't want to drive manual transmission because the idea that you need three different inputs (throttle, clutch, gear shift) to control your speed is preposterous.
Interesting to note that the new Honda NC700 takes many cues from the Mana. Including under seat fuel tank, the ex fuel tank is now a storage compartment and of course the DCT transmission. It's a good thing that manufacturers are smarter than reviewers.
Unless I am mistaken, he is saying that the Aprilia is a D.C.T gearbox. When he says it is a scooter style bike, does he mean it is a C.V.T? If it were a C.V.T., it would not be able to operate 'in a gear', right? Thanks for the video.
I'm going to add to the chorus here: An auto 'box does not make a motorcycle a "scooter". Generally, I find regular reviews by owners more interesting than the 'pro' efforts. They have access to all the new bikes but considering they *get paid to do this* their videos just don't do it for me.

I know this is an older post but very happy I just bought one of these bikes.
@@MotoMiles I'm looking at one now...what are your thoughts after 6 month.

Totally agree - own one for 5 years now here in Switzerland, maintenance costs are low and still enjoy every minute I ride.

This review would have made more sense if the Honda was a DCT model

@BigJoeRup You can still shift on the Mana, it has an option to change to a 7-speed manual shifting mode.
I have a 2011 aprilia mana gt AWESOME MACHINE..........
Aprilia gets my vote.

why no mention of how many speeds on both bikes? Are they chain or shaft drive? warranty length?

I would like to take this guy surfing in double overhead waves . And then tell him he has a scooter heart .
great aprilia mana bike. italians know how to make bikes^^*
I've heard that the Mana is not a good bike for a tall person. That right?
Very annoying wind noise and mic noise, very unprofessional. As well the comparison is very confusing. Try again.
not both cvts or automatics
apples and oranges
@BigJoeRup The history of motorcicle advanced trasmissions is just beginning. And you are going to stay in the past.
Very weak and shallow reviews of both.
I didn't like the video very bias......
Brrrr
