My first thought was that I didn't care for the looks of the bike and then you showed the black and chrome one and what a difference. That one looks fantastic.
Im a Harley guy also but Harley has nothing interesting now and have priced themselfs out of the market. Imagine if Harley would make modern kunckleheads, showelheads or panheads that would be reliable and reasonably priced to boot!!!
The Classic 650 is looking great. In the running for my next one (Although not in a hurry to swap my Continental GT) ...nice to see it on my local roads too.
First rode these very roads in 1966 on a RE 250 Interceptor. It was not a great bike. Have returned, after years of nonsense on ‘big BMW trailys’, to riding these very same, unchanged roads on a Meteor 350. Pure joy.
2 years from now, I'll be commuting to work daily on this bad girl while my boss and peers on their mopeds and small CC's. Gotta commute and ride with style. 💪💪💪
I have the black and chrome Interceptor 650 or I would be drooling over that chrome model. RE makes it hard to stay happy with the constant roll out of cool new models.
Really looking forward to these bikes fitted with the 750cc engine and some extras such as twin discs, heated grips, belt drive, and finally fixing the unuseable rear shocks.
It is truly a good looking bike, but like most of us currently owning a classic 350 or 500 would tell you is that owning one is great, owning one in one of the military colours or stealth black is just cherry on top, the new colour choices would literally stop me from buying the 650.
What a lovely looking motorcycle. The exhausts could have been left straight, and not ‘slightly’ upswept. Just as with the Classic 350. Look forward to seeing them in store
Recently picked up a 2016 Classic chrome 500, only 1200km. After watching God knows how many videos on the 500’s nearly every “moaning reviewer” stated how BAD the vibrations were/are. What a load of 💩💩💩, vibrates no worse than my Harley or Triumph. Anyway, the Classic Chrome 650’s next to add to my garage, hope the vibrations aren’t bad! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The earlyer 500s like my 2012 vibrate like crazy. But despite the lack of power. Vibrations, I will stand by that bike and say it is by far the best bike I have ever ridden. It is so much fun on a level no other bike can bring. Enjoy your classic! They are wonderful
Would want to see this chassis with a Sherpa based 650 or higher to bring it closer to the Triumphs. RE has improved quality, fit and finish by major leaps. Hope to see if improve even more.
i really wish they would make another signals colorway for this one. I want a bit more power but i love my signals 350 so much that i cant think of selling it.
I've been saying from years, a belt drive would be perfect for Royal Enfields. My Scout has a belt drive and I swear the efforts in maintaining the bike have gone down by half.
M Technics and RS Tech are companies building the parts you're looking for. As someone who thought the Classic 350 couldn't possibly be more satisfying, I was decidedly wrong the weekend after my parcel from M Technics arrived.
I have the Shotgun 650 - I am 5' 7" or 170cm - I have had no issue with the weight and have been on some long rides and on some not great roads. Handles well, gets up to 140kph without thinking about it. A solid ride in my opinion.
My '67 Bonnie used to vibrate at a a fair speed. Wiping the ecstatic grin off my g/f's face was impossible 🙄 But as the Classic500 is so much cheaper 2nd hand and sounds more 'raw', that's my next bike for the stable.
Bike reviewers need to give their specific ergo measurements. You can be 6 foot 1 inch but be short of leg or conversely very long of leg and short on torso.🙂
My only real gripe is that the fenders, or mudguards, look a little strange proportionally. In my personal opinion, both the front and rear fenders would benefit from a redesign. Balancing the proportions of the fenders so they are both closer to the same size would result in a more cohesive design overall. Just take a look at the Classic 350 for example. Other than that, I really really like it.
It doesn't matter about the rear seat. The proportions are still off. The rear fender looks big, and the front looks small. Look at other bobbers, or even the classic 350. They look fine without their rear pillion seat.
@1LuckyB07 It could also be because the chassis was specifically built for the Super Meteor (crusiser). They should have built a new one for the Classic 650. The suspension and ground clearance also suffers as a result.
It also has to do with the poor tire choice they made at least for these press bikes. If this bike had a set of classic white walls on them vs a set of lower profile sport tires everything would look more balanced.
I personally dislike the modernization of the front fender. IMO my classic 350 looks better. The whole point of a retro bike is look retro but this looks sorta halfhearted, but it will most likely appeal to the younger enthusiasts.

I maybe a minority but RE needs bigger engine. Same 650cc engine is getting old. I know not the same bike but you can buy SV650 with 75HP for under 5k used.Excellent Twin.I will hold off for something more powerful
it's the same scenario with all the youtubers, as I see it. in the exact same setup they were given the same amount of time to tell their (exactly same) thoughts. it's not their fault though, it's RE's concept. I was told in the dealership that they promote it without the pillion's seat, because this way it looks better, but you'll buy the bike with it.
Thank you for this. I have a 350 classic and it works without the rear seat. For some reason. The 650 doesn’t and looks great with the rear seat. How about that?😊
You are probably the only one of the journos who cares about maintenance, because when you're getting paid to ride other people's bikes, performing such tasks isn't part of such a reality. I'm rather smitten by this bike, but I don't really want to be tearing into it, not only to clean the chain well, but every 3k miles to check the valves. They really need to look into hydraulic lifters.
There are belt conversion kits for several of the 650 serious bikes now which I would do. As far as hydraulic lifters you’re now talking a completely different style of modern motor. The maintenance is pretty easy on these motors, but a longer service interval would be nice.
Yep, this is a big gripe here. They are a standard size though you can buy smaller ones and run the risk of getting pulled. Most of the time the police just can't be bothered unless you are doing something else like speeding.
Perhaps, but RE sold 80,000 bikes ... in September. They are obviously making bikes that people want. For reference, BMW sell about 200,000 bikes a year, against the near 1 million that Enfield sell. Cant blame the manufacturer for selling bikes that people want. KTM, take note..
Also they make bikes reliable, easy to work on and repair and even more important, cheap to buy. Most old bikes started ridding not only because of pleasure but because they wanted a cheap vehicle that was possible to get serviced buy the owner with Basic tools. Modern bikes Lost that@@faraway5828
rodneyhull9764 if you are referring to the excess weight of the RE 650 variants (SG650, SM650, etc) I could not agree more. In the U.S., a 47hp 535 pound motorcycle is a "buyer's remorse issue" just waiting to happen. I have put almost 48,000 miles on my 2020 Interceptor since new; at just past 27,000 miles I installed Wiseco 83.5mm pistons and an S&S camshaft, it is a totally different bike with the throttle authority of my 900cc Triumphs and buyers of these newer RE models should take heed or take a nap...
Whoever came up with that color scheme deserves a raise.
My first thought was that I didn't care for the looks of the bike and then you showed the black and chrome one and what a difference. That one looks fantastic.
I’m a Harley guy, but that bike is beautiful!
Me too and I agree, besides the heritage models HD is almost unrecognizable these days and needs a serious course correction
I love Harleys. But the problem in India is the heating issue since we have bad traffic. This doesn't heat up even on a hot day with heavy traffic.
i’ve been waiting for this thing ever since the Classic 500 got axed. it is the quintessential Royal Enfield here in India.

Such a beauty. ❤
Excellent review.
I’ll sure this bike would be a real keeper. A joy to look at but lovely to ride too.
The black and chrome is spot on good looking. I wish they had also done it with their bronze and chrome livery from the 350 Classic.

It’s beautiful apart from the rear fender. Once you’ve seen it, you can’t unsee it!
I wonder if they will drop these in military colors?
They will in future, like past. Ode to Indian military. In past they had released sand Storm(Thar desert) & military green.
What a lovely looking motorcycle. The exhausts could have been left straight, and not ‘slightly’ upswept. Just as with the Classic 350. Look forward to seeing them in store
Were you wearing a Buc-ee’s hat? Won’t see many of those in the UK! Great review!
Yup. My family is from Lake Jackson, Texas, where Buc-ee's is based. So I'm always representing it over here.
Stopped at the new Buc ee's at Hillsboro on the way back to Dallas.

Beautiful bike but 650 series of Royal Enfield are too heavy
What? Too heavy? You know when the moto of a brand is "built like a gun".
It's gotta be heavy. Metal is heavy. lolololol

yes, absolutely no problem.
Why is it 25kg more than the Interceptor?
Looks like its got a rear foot peg. is there an option for a passenger seat ? because the back fender doesn't look too comfortable.
Any bike designed for India is meant to carry two adults and three children, so I would guess yes
