Chills watching this. Growing up in the '60's as a guitar-rock snob I usually gave short shrift to bands like BS & T...my loss. Why I love TH-cam is I can go back and discover these guys all over again. DCT in total command.
Beyond great music and performances...the message is what we should all be stearing our children toward. "Momma may have, And Papa may have, But God bless the child who can stand up and say...I got my own...
I was born in '66 and my Uncles, who were musicians, turned me on to so much great music from the 60s and 70s as I grew up. This post is dedicated to them.... how I wish I could do it all again.... thank you for everything!
When BS&T added David Clayton to the group, I don't think they even realized what a huge positive impact he made on the groups already great sound. DCT . . .One of thee very best voices of the era.
This is a sound of the past, unfortunately. Music has evolved into computerized sound and poor rhythms. Maybe like everything else history will repeat itself??
Dad introduced us ( my sister, brother and I ) to BS&T due to the fact he loved the horn section. As dad was a jazz drummer in his own right. And we have been Spinning Wheels ever since. RIP Dad.
Had never seen this performance of God Bless the Child’. Wonderful. Had all their stuff as vinyls, then cassettes and now cds. Good stuff. When my grandson goes on about ‘c-rap’ music I want to strangle him. This is music.
David Clayton Thomas is awesome. That band were all musically educated and it shows. I wish I was older and could have seen them live. At least I can see them here. Great band of all time
Saw BST at the Marin County Fair several decades ago....with DCT. Unbelievable! We had the best Rock-Horn bands in the 70's. Chicago, BST, TOP, Chase. The beauty of this song was that it opened up a new generation of real music lovers to Billie Holiday. Grover Sales took us on a Jazz-filled adventure in Survey of Jazz. Music is love in search of a word.
David Clayton-Thomas (Canadian); Steve Winwood (British), and Chicago's Terry Kath (American), were the trifecta of Ray Charles-influenced blue-eyed soul in the late '60s and early '70s.
Your voice has the same potencial he had when I was young and loved to hear David! Today I missed hear you, "every day in my life I wanna thank you"! In add let me Tell you that my father used to play "trombone". Such a gift I won , thank you.
I STILL LOVE this group's music!! First introduced to it when I was only about 4 or 5 years old ('68/'69). My family lived in northern Mass. Somehow, Dad became acquainted with Dave Bargeron. I remember going to his house around Christmas time and seeing his two-story Christmas tree.
Eine der genialsten Bands aller Zeiten, über Ländergrenzen hinweg, David Clayton, Dave Bargeron Tuba und die andern. Das ist musikalische Weltgeschichte.
Ken Heard Not looking to start a debate on this but for my money, Tower of Power was the best and tightest I ever heard. Their 40th anniversary concert was awesome.
My friend invited me to see David in the early 90s. He performed on the patio outside a Suburban Detroit Hilton hotel. I've seen many live shows and that was one of the best concerts ever.
Great Band. D C Thomas is an amazing vocalist. I hired BST trumpet player Lew Soloff to play on my album with Herbie Mann (Fire Island). One of the most amazing trumpet solos on Summer Strut.
So the Bible says and it still is news Mama may have, Papa may have But God bless the child that's got his own, that's got his own Yes the strong get smart While the weak ones fade Empty pockets don't ever make the grade Mama may have, Papa may have But God bless the child that's got his own, that's got his own Money, you've got lots of friends They're crowding around your door But when you're gone and spending ends They don't come no more Rich relations give crusts of bread and such You can help yourself, but don't take too much Mama may have, Papa may have But God bless the child that's got his own, that's got his own Money you've got lots of friends They're crowding around your door But when you're gone and spending ends They don't come no more Rich relations give crusts of bread and such You can help yourself, but don't take too much Mama may have, Papa may have But God bless the child that's got his own, that's got his own Here just don't worry about nothing cause he's got his own Yes, he's got his own
Happy 82nth birthday David. I was listening to you back in '69... It was part of my youth. Still listening...
One of the singular voices in rock history. David Clayton-Thomas is INSTANTLY recognizable!

I totally agree with you 👍 😊
His voice is pure honey!
Happy 82nd birthday my friend you are a true legend and your music will always live on

I was born in '66 and my Uncles, who were musicians, turned me on to so much great music from the 60s and 70s as I grew up. This post is dedicated to them.... how I wish I could do it all again.... thank you for everything!

What a voice - what a band! Pure perfection....
It doesn’t get any better than this. Thanks BST
This is a sound of the past, unfortunately. Music has evolved into computerized sound and poor rhythms. Maybe like everything else history will repeat itself??

one of the best version of God bless the child, i feel.
Dad introduced us ( my sister, brother and I ) to BS&T due to the fact he loved the horn section. As dad was a jazz drummer in his own right. And we have been Spinning Wheels ever since. RIP Dad.
If I had a bucket list, seeing this man sing live one more time would definitely be on it.
One of the greats. The horn arrangements on these songs always blow me away.
The most beautiful Trombone solo ever! I played for years, never reached that level of playing. DCT sounds as good as ever. What a Band!!
Listen to Frank Zappa's "Be Bop Tango" on "Roxy and Elsewhere" and prepare to be gobsmacked!
Should have a million plus views....at least...I may add 100 myself
oh yeah, this is the real stuff!!! Blood Sweat and Tears Forever!!
Had never seen this performance of God Bless the Child’. Wonderful. Had all their stuff as vinyls, then cassettes and now cds. Good stuff. When my grandson goes on about ‘c-rap’ music I want to strangle him. This is music.
Man, his voice and delivery seems to have come into its own. Different than the 70's.
David Clayton Thomas is awesome. That band were all musically educated and it shows. I wish I was older and could have seen them live. At least I can see them here. Great band of all time
Bless your heart.
I got to see them live! Bucket list realized.
We called this "Jazz Rock" back in the day, because it was neither Jazz nor Rock but a mixture of both that created a new sound at that time...

sounds amazing after all these years...
I now have lung cancer and I am grateful to hear that because I didn't know that many tracks from blood sweat and tears 😭❤️🙏🧸
Get well soon❤
@@oskarmac14 that's very kind of you Sir 🤔💖 God bless you 🙏☮️🌎
The man oozzes humility and joy yet he has every right and licence to be arrogant. Truly a signature voice!
Brass Park Band ( A North Carolina Band ) did this cover early seventies . Loved BS&T. Great arrangement! Jack Kelly
David Clayton Thomas, una voz sinigual. Años sin ver un vídeo de esta agrupación que forma parte de mi vida musical.
Your voice has the same potencial he had when I was young and loved to hear David!
Today I missed hear you, "every day in my life I wanna thank you"!
In add let me Tell you that my father used to play "trombone".
Such a gift I won , thank you.
Dunno how many people know how impossible the trombone is to solo on. That was amazing.
Agreed, from this former trombonist.
As a former trumpet player I can see how hard that is..
Sweetest song to accompany the sweetest of memories attached to it. Wonderful.
His voice is unbelievable! The band has an incredible sound❤.
These guys are as wonderful as when I was in HS (1971).
BST Greatest Hits was the first LP I ever bought - absolutely timeless jazz in its purest form - my inheritance album!

Eine der genialsten Bands aller Zeiten,

David Clayton, Dave Bargeron Tuba und die andern.
Das ist musikalische Weltgeschichte.
Absolutely the very best. God bless 🙏
We played a great arrangement of this in HS. Wish I could have sung with that band back then.
Still my favorite rendition from the old classic from Billie Holiday
These guys had one of the best horn section I ever heard. I heard that.
Ken Heard Not looking to start a debate on this but for my money, Tower of Power was the best and tightest I ever heard. Their 40th anniversary concert was awesome.
Saw them in San Diego, think it was 1972. Memorable, it was. DCT one of a kind.
David Clayton Thomas made his mark on the music scene..
Solos! Superb!
BS&T was the first fusion band I had ever heard. I only got to see David once, and I need to see his show again.
Cat’s still got it. DCT.
Brought back many memories. DCT was the best
My first record was BST, the second was Chicago, now 50 years later I still listen to ithese bands and I love it still!
All jazz players and well educated MUSICIANS
Не могу оторваться! Бальзам на душу... Музыка из детства, только в другой интерпретации.
Recently heard the 2019 version of this song with the new BST band line up and I have to say the vintage still has a smooth sound
Saw the live in Amsterdan at the Concert gebouw in 1970. Never forget it, power.full
My friend invited me to see David in the early 90s. He performed on the patio outside a Suburban Detroit Hilton hotel. I've seen many live shows and that was one of the best concerts ever.
Love DCT love BST music meant something to me at the time and more now.
That was amazing! Love that band in its many incarnations.
Timeless crazy good.

So the Bible says and it still is news
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own, that's got his own
Yes the strong get smart
While the weak ones fade
Empty pockets don't ever make the grade
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own, that's got his own
Money, you've got lots of friends
They're crowding around your door
But when you're gone and spending ends
They don't come no more
Rich relations give crusts of bread and such
You can help yourself, but don't take too much
Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that's got his own, that's got his own
Money you've got lots of friends
They're crowding around your door
But when you're gone and spending ends
They don't come no more
