  • This is another video in my series “New Forest Walks” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode I undertake a 3 mile circular route at Bramshaw Telegraph (also known as Telegraph Hill) which is about 3 miles North West of the village of Brook.
The origin of the name comes from the fact that there was once an Optical Signal Shutter Station located at the site - now long since gone.
Our walk starts by heading South to explore the site of Studley Castle - a medieval Royal Hunting Lodge before doubling back to join the original circular route. After heading West down Claypit Bottom and up to Homy Ridge, we head South in to Eyeworth Wood.
Another change in direction sees us head West, down in to Islands Thorns Inclosure - one of the largest even-aged oak plantations in the Forest, over Latchmore Brook and up out on to the heathland plain where I explore a set of Bronze Age Barrows.
The weather was perfect for this Spring walk - glorious sunshine & a perfect temperature.

Thanks Dave & Logan! Another wonderful woodland walk! Glad you found your "Castle"😆 I tease a bit, but actually that would be quite something to know that you are standing on ground that once housed something so historic!!! Amazing how many earthworks & barrows you have come across just there in the New Woods. It obviously was once very important inhabitation & land for early man. Always love the little lick Logan gives you at the end!🤗😘💕🐶

Btw...my cat Rascal apparently finds your voice very soothing. A couple mins in, he came over laid his head down on the screen & just laid there listening until he drifted off to sleep. I had to wrestle the phone away from him just to leave my msg!😅😘💕🐱

Thanks. I think it is Logan's way of asking for a biscuit...which he always gets at the end of filming!

Another lovely walk with lots of interesting facts and things to look out for, perfect weather for a peaceful stroll with just the birdsong, and Logan, for company. 😊

I am delighted to have found your channel, Dave. Your walks are so interesting and informative. It is cold, wet and Wintery here in Australia so it's great to be able to see someone out enjoying the sun. Hopefully it warms up a bit soon so I can get our and do some walks of my own. Please give Logan a pat on my behalf. :) Can't wait for your next walk.

I seem to remember when I lived in the forest that area was absolutely rife with deer ticks
