The think i agree with you are about The Drapery Falls, Black Rose Immortal, To Bid You Farwell, April Ethereal. I Don’t agree in other things but I like your passion
1. Blackwater Park (I come back to this album the most, so many classic songs) 2. Still Life (The Moor might be my favorite Opeth song) 3. Morningrise (underrated; Black Rose Immortal, and To Bid You Farewell are both contenders for my favorite Opeth song) 4. My Arms, Your Hearse 5. Deliverance 6. Ghost Reveries (Overrated; it's a great album but it's missing something; Isolation Years is my favorite track) 7. Watershed 8. Damnation 9. Orchid 10. In Cauda Venenum (my favorite of their prog-rock albums, while they sound nothing like classic Opeth, my favorite tracks are Lovelorn Crime and The Garroter) 11. Pale Communion 12. Heritage 13. Sorceress (haven't heard it)
13. Heritage (5.5/10) 12. Sorceress (6.25/10) 11. In Cauda Venenum (7/10) 10. Pale Communion (7.5/10) 9. Watershed (8/10) 8. Morningrise (8.25/10) 7. Orchid (8.5/10) 6. Damnation (9/10) 5. Deliverance (9/10) 4. Ghost Reveries (9.25/10) 3. My Arms, Your Hearse (9.5/10) 2. Blackwater Park (10/10) 1. Still Life (10/10) I don't hate prog rock but I wish they kept the dark atmosphere in their newer albums
1.- Ghost Reveries 2.- Blackwater Park 3.- My Arms Your Hearse 4.- Deliverance 5.- Damnation 6.- Still Life 7.- In Cauda Venenum 8.- Watershed 9.- Orchid 10.- Morningrise 11.- Pale Communion 12.- Sorceress 13.- Heritage
13. Heritage 12. Pale Communion 11. Sorceress 10. In Cauda Venenum 9. Orchid 8. Watershed 7. Morningrise 6. Damnation 5. Blackwater Park 4. Deliverance 3. Ghost Reveries 2. Still Life 1. My Arms, Your Hearse
13-10 The prog rock albums (haven’t gotten into them) 9 Orchid 8 Morningrise 7 Deliverance 6 Damnation 5 MAYH 4 Ghost Reveries 3 Watershed 2 Blackwater Park 1 Still Life
I don't like the new Opeth era either , BUT Sorceress is a great album, give it a second chance! Chrysalis is an amazing song, and Will o Wisp is such a beautiful song; and as you said Era and Sorceress are great, Strage Brew is good too.
Fair enough! Ya I dont absolutely hate the newer Opeth, its just that to me its always going to be a disappointment compared to the masterpieces that they used to produce. But still definitely some quality songs in there!
for me orchid morningrise my arms your hearse still life blackwater park deliverance damnation ghost reveries also i loved what mikael did with bloodbath breeding death resurrection through carnage nightmares made flesh the fathomless mastery
13 Heritage: I like it but it just doesn't have anything standout. 12 Deliverance: title and A Fair Judgement save this from last place for me, I find the rest of the album just not as interesting. 11 My Arms Your Hearse: I really respect this album but I somehow can't get into it as much as the ones in the top 10. 10 Watershed: Burden and Porcelain Heart are some great songs from this album and the heavier tracks are also good. 9 PC: Opeth does prog rock really well and the only reason it's not higher is because the rest is just so good. Eternal Rains Will Come, Cusp Of Eternity, Voice Of Treason, Faith In Others are some examples of the great songs on this album. 8 Sorceress: Sorceress used to be top 5 but slowly dropped over time. Still a great album that features a lot of the classic Opeth transitions from heavy to soft and back. 7 Ghost Reveries: Ghost Of Perdition is the ultimate Opeth song and Hours Of Wealth has some of the most beautiful parts Opeth has ever written. 6 BWP: It was a hard pick between this one and Ghost Reveries but the combination of the title track and The Drapery Falls puts this album just slightly ahead. 5 Damnation: straight up beautiful. 4 Orchid: The heavy soft transitions are top tier here with great electric and acoustic riffs as well as both great growls and cleans. The bass is also great on this one and Morningrise. 3 Still Life: 2 great softer pieces, the intro to Moonlapse Vertigo and ofcourse the intro to the album The Moor bring this into the top 3. 2 ICV: In my opinion this is Opeths return to metal, even if doesn't have growls. Again both the acoustic and electric riffs are great combined with some great singing and also great lyrics containing a political message in some songs. 1 Morningrise: Morningrise.
Great comments, I always love reading all the detail and different opinions on some albums. We have the same #1, such a great band, and such an amazing album!
1. Blackwater park 2. Ghost reveries 3. Still life 4. Watershed 5. Deliverance 6. My arms your hearse 7. Pale communion 8. In cauda venenum 9. Damnation 10. Orchid 11. Morningrise 12. Sorceress 13. Heritage
1. Deliverance (best song: Masters Apprentice, worst song: A Fair Judgement) 2. Blackwater Park (best song: every song except Harvest and Patterns in the Ivy can be considered this) 3. Still Life (best song: The Moor) 4. Ghost Reveries (best song: The Grand Conjuration, worst song: Atonement) 5. Damnation (best song: In My Time Of Need, worst song: Weakness) 6. Watershed (best song: Heir Apparent, worst song: Coil) 7. My Arms, Your Hearse 8. Morningrise (best song: To Bid You Farewell, worst song: Black Rose Immortal) Rest I barely listened to.
13. Orchid (5/10) i just dont come back to any of the songs on here, mainly dude to production quality. 12. Heritage (5.5/10) After like 20 minutes of the album, i feel like it as nothing left to say. 11. Sorceress (6/10) The wilde flowers is fun, same as the title track, the rest of it isnt very memorable. 10. Morningrise (6.5/10) To bid you farewell is a very good track, but i feel like the rest of the songs are too long and disconnected. also not very good production quality. 9. Deliverance (7/10) The title track is so unbelievable, one of opeth's best songs. The rest of the album is good, but some of the songs are a little too long for me. 8. My Arms, Your Hearse (7.5/10) Demon Of The Fall is a fantastic track, same as omen corner and When. The rest of the songs i think i just need to listen to more. 7. Pale Communion (7.75/10) The Album is a great listen as a whole, but, there isnt a standout track or any song too extraordinary. Just a bunch of great tracks that flow well with each other. 6. Watershed (8/10) Coil, Burden, and Lotus Eater are some of my favorite opeth songs. The rest of the songs on this album are unfortunately too heavy for me to handle. 5. In Cauda Venunum (8.5/10) I know this is controversial, but this album is freaking fantastic. The only issue is that you kinda HAVE to listen to it as a whole for it to work. 4. Damnation (9/10) This album is fantastic, ONLY downside for me is that there is two ending songs in a way. If they just moved Weakness over to deliverance, this would be even better. 3. Still Life (9.5/10) Near Perfection. If they had better production, this would be a 10/10. 2. Ghost Reveries (10/10) perfect. It's very entertaining and probably the most unique sound in any sort of music I've ever heard. Depending on the day, this could be my number 1. 1. Blackwater Park (10/10) not much to say, if you have listened to it, you most likely know why its up here. Pure perfection.
Our lists are very different, but I love all the comments and different opinions! Such a great band, and so many different views on some of their albums.
I always jump back and forth between the top 4 and the last 2. 13 Heritage This one gives me no enjoyment. I Feel the Dark starts good but then goes to shit. Folklore is a pretty good one. Jethro-peth. 12 Pale Communion Elysian Woes is a mix of Hope Leaves and the intermission in Porcelain Heart, so I enjoy it. Faith in Others has a Dogs ripoff melody, but it's ok. The rest is an imitation of 70s prog rock, no Opeth soul. 11 Sorceress I like the heavier production. Sorceress, Chrysalis and Era are playlist-material, Sorceress 2 is ok, rest is disposable. 10 In Cauda Venenum Dignity, Heart in Hand and All Things Will Pass are great, some other songs are ok, but Next of Kin I just despise. 9 Orchid I appreciate the really evil growls and BM screams, Forest and Mist are incredible, the rest is ok, songs are a bit long and transitions are not there yet. 8 My Arms Your Hearse A slight bias, since I never got into this one, I can see why people love it. 7 Damnation This one is situational. Either I really want to listen to it or I don't. Songs never change pace and I don't like Death Whispered's chorus. 6 Deliverance Underrated. Wreath is nasty, but a bit bland at times. By the Pain is underrated, I love the creepy atmosphere. 5 Morningrise Black Rose is beyond overrated. It's not cohesive and at times dull. Nectar is forgettable to me, apart from the riff they recycled for The Grand Conjuration. The other 3 songs are amazing. 4 Still Life A bit overrated. The latter parts of White Cluster and Serenity are frogettable and I always drift away mentally when listening to them, the rest is great, I wish the recording wasn't so flawed. If this had BWP's production, it could be #1. Also, at Melinda's breakdown they drag the the new riff and it's never on time, which they fixed live. 3 Watershed The most interesting album (besides Reveries at times). Has the most brutal and softest songs. Porcelain Heart's beginning is overdone, but every other song is killer. 2 Blackwater Park Masterpiece. The Drapery Falls and Funeral Portrait sometimes lose my attention, but by themselves they are still fantastic. 1 Ghost Reveries. No weak or boring song. I have a personal vendetta against The Grand Conjuration, but the song is objectively fantastic, so no complaints.
