    • @ericritchie6783
      @ericritchie6783 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@_beaker Indeed, let's see some live sets already. I do like many of his bass lines and he's a technically impressive player for SURE... But it's starting to get a bit samey after watching for a while now and I just can't agree when people say he's better than the likes of Victor Wooten. In terms of technical ability comparable but in terms of musicianship, not really, just not accomplished enough not seeing him play with enough other musicians.

    • @seanfitzpatrick7878

      @@ericritchie6783 as amazing as he is, NO ONE is as good as Victor Wooten. Wooten's musicianship is second to none. I include guitar players in this assessment and I'm a guitar player. Charles has great and creative songs but if one scours Victor's recordings and live performances, one finds a level of creativity and versatility that's unsurpassed.

    • @ericritchie6783

      @@seanfitzpatrick7878 I just think of a video I seen of Victor playing celtic folk type runs with a really brilliant celtic/folk style guitar player fur a whole live set doing all these call and response runs, just incredibly impressive. I'm sure Charles could sit there and work all the same runs out soon enough but he's just not doing that sort of thing live on the fly or playing live or collaborating with that calibre of musicians from what I'm seeing.

    • @varsityathlete9927
      @varsityathlete9927 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@ericritchie6783 i agree its a bit samey, but i think this is the biggest problem for all technical players. i see it a lot with guitarists, as that is mostly what i watch. what he needs is to work with a zappa/miles davis type figure to take what he has and bring more out. every one that played with those two, came out a better musician. charles has the chops he just needs a band to take it somewhere new. or a band leader. i say this as a fan of charles, and a fan of many many similar musicians.

    • @SelfPoisonBand
      @SelfPoisonBand 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      So what is the difference in music making and melody making if melody is music?

      @@SelfPoisonBand I'm no musical person, but I tried to say it as best as I could. But hey that might be the answer I was looking for! 😁
      Music is general to me that can be rap or pop or folk etc. Even when it can be categorized as a genre
      The dude makes music that I like so I said music.
      Now his melodies (varying from video to video) are just amazingly unique that by the sound of it I just know it's Charles Berthoud. It's what I think is his way of singing to us.
      But since he makes both in various ways that can be loving, soft, rocky, serious, funky etc, that's why I said he never stops talent. Cause he is talented and became easily my favorite bassist after years of listening to other bassists.

      You should check out the bassist from Cheap Trick. They played the song that was used for the intro to That 70s Show and the opening riff is played on a 12 string bass.

    Apart from the great bass playing as always, your composition & production skills are getting incredibly professional.
    These videos more and more sound like studio-recorded album tracks from a full band -- but where the average band takes 4 years to finish an album, we get 1 or 2 pieces every week from you.

    • @UmasPapa
      @UmasPapa 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Sorry I disagree. His playing and composition are world class, but production is sub-par (but great for just one dude in his home). The drums are obviously standard digital and the mix isn't up to snuff either. Poor quality reverbs, which I really notice, and not mastered to the level one expects on an album. All that to say it's great for TH-cam, but no this doesn't compare to a good studio recording. I could go on and on about the possibilities; orchestral arrangements with real orchestra, real plate reverbs, stunning sounding rooms, juicy tube amp tones, "real" studios are just on another level.

      Charles IS the band
      Show starts.. Charles walks on stage... a drum track starts... audience " wtf, it's just a guy with a bass..???!! "
      1 minute later the place is a bass party, world peace is achieved.. we are like that scene from the future in bill and Ted's excellect adventure 😀

    I love all genres. I can go from metal to rap to country to blues to classical to worship but metal is my top. You absolutely DESTROYED this. Your precision in moving your left hand up 5-9 frets whilst setting up your fingering AND hitting the multiple and also alternate string taps is absolutely breathe taking. The amount of time and effort you’ve put into your craft clearly shows in ALL of your videos. Respect.
