- Greg Valentine discusses his old friend Bobby "The Brain" Heenan from their days in WWF to signing together on the independent wrestling convention circuit 📺 TitleMatchNetwo...
This is from our exclusive Title Match Network interview series with the legendary, Hall of Famer Greg "The Hammer" Valentine.
Produced live from Las Vegas on Aug 28, 2023.
The Hammer talks about how Bobby Heenan got his start in wrestling as a manager for Dick the Bruiser in AWA. Later the Brain would enter the World Wrestling Federation where he would manage Andre the Giant, Haku, Rick Rude, Ric Flair, Curt Hennig and dozens of other legends.
Heenan is regarded as one of the greatest managers and wrestling personalities in history. Greg Valentine also recalls how he would do signings with Bobby and his wife Cynthia after their days in the WWF came to a close.
Among the countless wrestlers who Bobby managed was a mega star from the UWF known as Terry Taylor. It didn't take long for Vince McMahon to change Taylor into the Red Rooster.
The Rooster character didn't last long. In fact the Rooster's first big run was against the Brooklyn Brawler who he ended up doing the job for.
Taylor would leave WWF and go to WCW where he coincidentally won the Tag Team Championships with Greg Valentine!

*Bobby ranks in the top 5 biggest superstars of professional wrestling in my mind. Nobody could sell a story like Bobby. To say he is one of a kind is less than adequate.*
Anything they put Bobby in had us glued to the seat with our heads an inch away from the screen.
Makes me cry to see Heenan in such a Way...I Loved that Dude...In Life, We ALL Gravitate to SOMEONE and find them SPECIAL....We Don't question it, we just recognize it and let it be...He was that one for me...R.I.P.
Yeah same. R.I.P Legend!
Most definitely @@NeoNyder
Bobby The Brain is one of my biggest influences on my sense of humor.
I love and miss Bobby the Brain
I started watching Wrestling in 1968 when I first was introduced to “Pretty Boy Bobby Heenan” who managed Blackjack Lanza. They had him hailing from Beverly Hills, CA. The greatest manager in Pro Wrestling History!
Love The Hammer Greg Valentine a true pro in every sense of the word.
Greg IMHO tells the truth 100%. No BS. Straight shooter!
Very sad ending for Bobby the brain.
He was one the people who made that era of wrestling entertaining.
RIP Bobby.
true G.O.A.T !!! rip bobby
The Piper audio just broke me
Miss ya Bobby, love ya Hammer
As a kid, I hated Bobby Heenan… as an adult. I realize how much he would’ve taken that as a compliment. That meant he got over and that’s the best anybody in entertainment especially pro wrestling can do ,get over. There is no good without bad, and Bobby did bad like nobody else. When I see him after the cancer operation, it just breaks my heart. Glad he’s not suffering, and then I hear a voice in the back of my head. It sounds like Bobby saying “and I’m not suffering humanoids anymore either! “ RIP brain, from the humanoids😢
Looking at that video of Bobby Heenan, it makes me think. I know I’m just saying this from the comfort of my chair and not having an illness, but I don’t think I would be able to make that decision to have the lower part of my head taken off if I had cancer like he did. Maybe they didn’t know they were gonna do that much surgery until they got in there, but I don’t imagine myself making that kind of a decision to stay alive. I’m sorry he had to go through that though.
Roddy was the best - look at his FACE when hugs bobby. Now whether or not he knows the camera is right there - who can say, cuz roddy was a good actor and a great wrestling actor - but man that look in his eyes almost breaks your heart. I love how roddy became a better person, much like valentine here... as opposed to so many legends that just made ASSES out of themselves later in life.
1:12 crazy to think that Bobby outlived Roddy
Want a fun Friday night , pull up prime time anywhere from thr mid 80s-90 Bob and Gino was absolutely gold
That was really sad, what happened to Heenan. God bless him. R.I.P Bobby.
I heard the Red Rooster Gimmick was supposed to go to Curt Henning and the Mr perfect Gimmick was supposed to fo to Terry Taylor
Red rooster gimmick should've went to the dumpster
omg i had no idea about bobby heenan, thats heartbreaking. just breaks my heart
The red rooster was the worst gimmick. Terry Taylor was amazing in the territories.
You'd almost think Taylor was being punished to the point of humiliation for violating some ring code or getting on the wrong side of his boss.
@@jeffmccoy1700yeah, he was a little bit of a weasel, Vince might’ve been ribbing a bit there lol. Polkadots on dusty was another one.
He was the most computerized man of the 1990's in WCW. Taylor should be in the hall of fame
Yes. He was. Vince McMahon didn’t know how to use him.
I mean he was good in the territories but Ric Flair was still popular and Terry was a Flair clone and from what they was said Terry did the goody hair thing because he took it literally
Please don't forget how lucky you are to have your health. We miss ya Bobby ❤
A friend in need is a pest.
-Bobby Heenan
Bobby Heenan was the Elvis Presley of Wrestling ( He was The King )
Nah, Bobby earned his acclaim; it wasn't hype & corny appropriation.
Elvis and Bobby were the King of their Domain . @@Daring2Win
Must've been a nightmare for Taylor.
My dad told me that Bobby used to be a masked wrestler. I think he was Dr. X or Mr. X.
Terry Taylor and Greg Valentine were WCW United States Tag Team Champions in 1992...
Where are the full shoots? I've been looking for it, don't mind paying, but it's not on your site!
yes it is look harder
@@orgonkothewildlyuntamed6301Don't see the Greg ones anywhere
@@orgonkothewildlyuntamed6301 Greg one is not there.
You look at that scene at the convention with Bobby Heenan, Roddy Piper, Road Warrior Animal and knowing they're all gone now. As Ben Johnson famously said, "Time is an old bald cheater". Ain't it the truth.
Valentine was wcw tag champ with terry taylor
Surprised that Greg didn't mention the fact that him and Terry was US Tag Team Champions in WCW.
I have loved bobby heenan since watching wrestling with my dad decades ago and one thing that made me sad was for a man who made his career with his quick witty words must of been living hell getting throat cancer and not being able to entertain people anymore
Loved to hate Bobby "the Weasel" Heennan.
Man, I miss the great days of wrasslin’
🔨 Time
This is what killed Terry Taylor's killed his career as a wrestler. Sometimes, it works (Razor Ramon), while sometimes it did not (Ron Garvin).
It didn't kill him .. terry was limited
Hennan was so funny.
Taylor was good as a heel before joining the WWF.
One of the worst gimmicks, red rooster.
Taylor could have worked harder to have gotten that admittedly lame gimmick over. Smashing his opponents in the face with eggs after defeating them. Tar and feathering his opposition in a feud. Having a bunch of eggs dumped on his enemies as a way to gain heat. Dusty got the polka dots over, because he actually put in the effort. Taylor never really even tried to embrace the gimmick.
roosters don't lay eggs.
Of course not, but it's chicken related. Many viewers wouldn't have been able to tell the difference.@@jyesucevitz
Nothing could have gotten that character over
Terry should of simply went over the top as a cocky ric flair wannabe and not cluck like a chicken he could of wrestled more aggressive and mean and act really cocky and mock his opponents and he may had got it over.. instead he looked stiff and confused like a chicken at a kfc butcher shop
❤
Bobby was a treasure. He was so talented. Terry was a great wrestler and was amazing in Mid-South. I never understood why Vince would fix him up with such a lousy gimmick.
The 🧠 was the best of the best Manger ever!😊
Terry was considered for being mr perfect in the WWF but Vince choose curt Henning
How are you
Heenan
🔨
What a terrible way for Bobby Heenan to go.
😊
Heenan didnt like Taylor. VKM made up that gimmick how stupid 😒
The red rooster gimmick i believe was a toned downed kid like rip off gimmick of Ric flair style
Terry Taylor had a handicap child at home and a very sick wife. Terry needed a job badly. Vince knew this so he took advantage of Terry's misfortune. Life was not fair to Terry and neither was Vince. Karma will have its day with Vince.
Sadly Vince had so much talent he could take advantage of Taylor.
Terry was a draw in WCCW in Texas. He put butts in seats and sold tickets in WCCW.
Terry Taylor.......limited ability all around.
Red Rooster, Fat chick thriller, WHO, are possibly the 3 worst gimmicks ever.
WHO CARES!
Hammer vs Bisbing! My money is on the Hammer
