I don't think it would top this, but if they ever did an Honest Trailer for the Legion series, it would be pretty out there. But as far as super obscure retro reviews... Frank Zappa's 200 Motels would definitely rate.

If they didn't have the actual footage to back up what they're saying I would swear they're just making this stuff up as they go! I love this so much! I’m Japanese and I believed Spider-Man was Japanese Hero when I was kid. After that I saw American cartoon version of Spider-Man, I thought America ripped off our super hero.
The Sentai that came out after this show, Battle Fever J, was almost an adaptation of Captain America before basically becoming a team of Captain Americas where utilizing "dances of the world" is part of their powerset. Battle Japan, Miss America, Battle France, Battle Cossack and Battle Kenya make up the team. I'd love to see an honest tv trailer for this one day before a Marvel movie. lol
It's funny how an adaptation can go so far over the cliff that it's loved for being totally insane, while simply changing a character's hair color will drive fanboys over that cliff.
I look forward to Joe and Spencer aging like Aragorn and Arwen respectively. Joe becomes a dignified old man, that salt and pepper beard is rad, who lives to a ripe old age and Spencer attends his funeral looking exactly like he does now then proceeds to live 700 more years.

Thanks for the trailer and commentary. I especially liked the bad dummy montage. 16:50 & 17:13 The bad dummy shot ranks among the best of hilariously bad movie cliches. It's up there with surprise decapitations, awkwardly acted death scenes and randomly exploding vehicles.

Actually the dynamics of Marvel's marketing deal started with Supaidaman but then followed with a project that started with the concept of "Tokusatsu Captain America", contracted Disco Fever and eventually turned into the Sentai show Battle Fever J(Swapping Cap for the character Miss America). But to mark they were were affiliated with Marvel, this Sentia show was designated a Super Sentai show. Which is the term for all successive power ranger shows. (Yes it had a giant robot). Also, Stan Lee liked it so much he tried really hard to get the third series adapted to American TV.

This Spider-man TV series makes sense with Super Sentai (the tv show where we get the clips, suits, some of the villains and megazords to create Power Rangers ) and Kamen Rider (similar Super Sentai) both licensed by Toei Company. Good choice SJN!

Your selling it short. In the final episode Amazona figures out who Spider-Man is. Poisons him and is betrayed by Professor Monster. Who is fleeing Earth because Spider-Man had basically defeated all his monsters.

It’s just so wacky and ridiculous that this makes sense but then again nothing from 1970s Japan made sense .
Well, it was a simpler time, and you don't need much sense to make a show to sell toys to little boys. Enough suits and explosive effects and you're good.
Are you guys going Venom next week for its Blu-Ray release? I actually think you can hold off on that until January and focus on Mary Poppins instead, since there’s no better time to do that movie.

A long time ago, I found a double VHS release with the movie and a few episodes. I loved it. It was weird but amazing.
