The first batch of VF8 cars sold in the US had some software errors, but they have been updated, and the new battery has been upgraded for a range of about 420km. Currently, VF8 cars are very stable, and they have many models, A,B,C,D for customers to choose from.
Correction: in my 2022 MY you can control fan speed, volume, track changes, voice commands, & cruise control without taking your eyes off the road using physical controls. As for blind spot checks, when you signal to change lanes, also something you can do from physical controls, it brings up a blind spot view camera which shows the entire blind spot. Please present accurate information for your viewers.

Yes, Alex has reviewed cars in the past and made this same false claim- that with Tesla you have to take your eyes off the road to do all of these things, like changing fan speed and direction and track changes. He conveniently ignores the fact that these are all voice-command enabled features.
By not mentioning this fact, he's actually lying.
@@KaiPonte I have taken 3 road trips in the MY in the year I’ve owned it. I have a long history of lumbar problems. My back has been great. On this latest trip, which was a 17 hour driving day, my neck and right shoulder were killing me. But I suspect that was due to the long time being seated and holding the wheel rather than some design defect in the car.
@@100_percent_bs8 that’s good. Like I have stated, the two times I drove one, the suspension was so tight, I felt dizzy.
What is funny is this is considered one of the worst review cars (not just EVs) in recent times. I’m guessing that check that Alex got for this review was pretty damn good.

Alex this video is way off the mark. Just to be sure I checked the more recent reviews that I may have missed and every review I have read or watched has the same conclusion. The ride\handling is a deal breaker. This started with the same journos who went on the launch junket as you, so you cant say that it is initial teething problems. If you cant build a car that rides\drives even passably, Android or Apple integration doesn't really matter. I know from experience that journos can hand-wave problems away if there is juicy advertising dollars involved (looking at you VW Polo\Skoda Fabia\Seat Ibiza manual gearboxes), but when you are sounding like Tom Hanks talking to the basketball... it is time to get off the island.

I agree with Alex that media give a pass to NA and European makers while bashing the new kid on the block. I have a Model Y and love it. Even Ok with the FSD while I am paying for their development. So from that perspective, I am also a reservation holder of a VF8. Knowing that I may need several trips to the service center.

Hope you live in CA then, as that is the only state where they have any service centers or where they will even provide a road side assistance coverage...
This video would be even more useful if it also included why a Model Y is better. It could have served as a buying guide instead of an advertisement.

@@grahamstevenson1740 software, range/and or battery efficiency (range in other cars are similar but only because other cars have bigger batteries), their charging network, make factories that are more efficient than the competition, are profitable, balance sheet amazing relatives to most companies, are only company besides BYD who are truly grow at scale and I'm sure there's more. Not saying 5 years ahead but definitely ahead of the competition in many aspects. Just the fact that they profit and other companies don't already put them way ahead.
@@frankhtlllful There's a simple reason for the extra range of Teslas. Unlike many other marques that are heavily invested in those tall/high SUV/crossover style vehicles with their high aero drag, Tesla has adopted a more conventional styling. I saw some Cd figures on a flip chart at Munro Live. Competing EVs had Cd's around 0.28 whereas the Teslas were 0.22 IIRC.It's not an electrical efficiency thing, it's just Newton'd Laws of Motion in action !

@@cyclopsvision6370 Can you show proof of Vinfast giving money to journalists? Vinpearl is a subsidiary of Vingroup, so it is normal for them to provide free hotels and meals. Previously, Vinfast cars were also free to park at Vincom's parking lots
Unfortunately it still comes down to the charging network for me… I don’t wanna have to think about charging when I do my road trips, which is quite a bit.

@@koookao- They need to switch to Tesla’s NACS connector, like Ford and GM recently did and make a deal with Tesla to use the SC network. Until then forget it.
My decision on any make/model is very dependent on resale/residual value, reliability plus TOC during the period of ownership/lease. Hope VinFast will be one of those brands that is good for the average consumer who simply needs to go from point A to B.
So, clearly, this guy makes these videos to trigger Tesla fans. How else to explain his liking this car more than a Tesla because it has.... Apple Carplay?

It's a decent EV with some cool features but it's already not doing very well in the US. Heck, in 2022 they lost over $2 billion dollars alone.
What I like very much and I think EVERY real BEV should have it, is to get out the power from the battery for external use. I am driving the Kia EV6 and using the 230V AC power supply minimum 3 times a week. Does Vinfast cars have this option? In future I hope all cars has a V2Home or V2Grid function. I would never buy a car without even one (better two) 230V AC power supply in the car, or a V2device adapter. Sorry Tesla and other brands, but a REAL BEV MUST give his big energy to other usecases than only driving.

I must admit, Vinfast is a good looking SUV, that said anything that isn't a BLAND Tesla is a breath of fresh air these days. A 10 year 120000 warranty is great but does Vinfast have the infrastructure in place to support warranty claims? Tesla still doesn't. What happens if Vinfast goes under and no longer makes cars?
I look forward to an update after you have driven this VF8 for a week to a month. Doing a short test drive is very hard to get a real feel for a car.
The 10 yr warranty bumper to bumper is by far the best way to get customers to take a chance on a new brand in this market but, subscription service to use your CarPlay or Android Auto will be a big mistake.

Well... there is always the issue of all of the service centers in the USA being in CA. Not sure where they are located in Canada.... but can you really take a car on a road trip to NY knowing that if it breaks down in NY for some reason, you have to ship it 2800 miles to the service center to get it fixed...?

They have a sales/service center in Langley BC Canada but haven't seen any on the road. The battery lease only will be changed as most will want to own the car/battery all in. If the bank messes up a payment and your on a road trip, the car can be bricked by VinFast
@@djscandela I believe the entire allocation of vehicles is going to CA. When they will sell them in Canada is still unknown. They may also fix many of the issues the car had when it was shown to the media in Las Vegas, but again, no one knows yet.
It is obviously going to be a significant risk, as there are major questions if Vinfast will even be around a year from now, so anyone buying one is obviously risking a low volume orphaned car with no future support or service.
All the features you mentioned in vinfast can be found in the kia ev6...which also gives you a 10 yr warranty...for vinfast to even make a dent in the u.s. or anywhere else in the world their car better be reliable and A LOT cheaper than the rest....if they sold them for $25k then they might have a chance.😄

Access to servicing is my primary criteria in purchasing an EV. What good is a 10 year warranty for only one state coverage.
Vinfast had a very short lived attempt at getting into the SCal market. As I recollect, the big problem was they want to sell you the EV but you had to rent the battery with a monthly subscription. It went down faster than a lead balloon. Not a bad looking EV but don’t know anything about its software capabilities. CCS plug turns me off, good luck with EA and other 3rd party chargers, I only hear about hassles, I’m spoiled with Tesla’s SC station network.

We have a Vinfast showroom in Berkeley, CA for a short while now.
As a brand new (to the US market) car company, I suppose they need to be able to offer a spectacular warranty. And I cannot imagine that lasting more than a year or two until they've established their brand in the market.
They will need service centers to provide warranty. Right now there are none.

Checks and balances is what needed in government, or in journalistic news reporting. Car reporting is a new form of journalism. Well known news sources are just as biased as anyone, and their larger platform doesn’t equate to more credibility. In an ideal world, those car review articles would need to be dissected properly like what we do in higher education. And under scrutiny, those negative review articles about the VF8 would not hold a candle to an elementary editorial (full of misinformation and biases).

The only thing that puts me off the Vinfast is the whole battery rental thing ( here in Australia at least, it seems that they are only renting the battery to you and that rental is on top of the purchase price of the car) But from from that, from what I've seen of the car, I'd happily have one.

I am a VinFast VF8 owner since 3/18/2023. I shared many videos about user experience if you’re interested.
I practically detest Tesla as a brand, but yeah Vinfast is not even close to "crushing" them - their cars are clearly still half baked from every single tester have shown in North America, and while Tesla's QC is laughably bad, Vinfast somehow manages to even fail to match even that which is actually kind of impressive & sad.
The Vietnamese brand may have a lot of financial backing and great ambitions, but they really need to make a good first impression and so far they failed to do so.
I sat in the Vinfast. This thing is subpar at best.

And Vinfast isn't Chinese it's Vietnamese. I'm sure they could have chosen better quality materials but they didn't and the price is up there with the legacy OEMs. Why buy a Vinfast if they price it that way.

1. Germany high quality products
2. China high quality/expensive products - actually not really behind Germany, just farther away and transport is not always perfect.
3A. rest of Europe,
3B: Germany for low quality products,
4. Australia, New Zealand, Latin and South America and Canada
5. USA - they produce the worst quality cars of the western world. US boys never knew how to make a good product. Only fast and cheap.
6. Africa and India
7. Russia and former russian occoupied states not in the EU like Moldavia, Belarus, Kasachstan etc.
8. China for low quality products.
It is ridiculous that your video clip is not as popular as it should. It is very informative, emphasize on the most important features, unlike unfair so-called 'review' like from Motortrend.
It is important to note that Vinfast really listens to its customers and reviewers, even the unfair ones and make software bug fixing really quick. All the so-called bugs are now fixed (actually many 'bug' are just planned features so the 'bug fix' is just to adjust to suit the flavor of US people because Vinfast wants to make Vinfast car as close as possible to ICE cars). As told by "Out of Spec Review" at this time, all the 'bugs' were fixed by software updates. Please give Vinfast a chance!

Obviously Vinfast may have some good points... all of which I agree with. However, Vinfast need to sell them in right hand drive, to come to the UK. Plus they actually need to manufacture them in bulk.
VinFast is exporting the VF5, VF6, V7, VF8 and VF9 to Europe. Mainly in Germany, France and Netherlands. I guess the UK market isn't a priority for now.
VinFast has a large state of the art robotic ev factory in Hai Phong that produces ev, batteries and buses. VinFast has already sold close to 10000 electric cars including the VFe 34, VF5, VF8 and VF9 in Vietnam.
About 3000 VF8 city edition, ECO and Plus have been exported to USA and Canada.
I don't think manufacturing in bulk is an issue it's the chip shortage that all ev companies are facing.

You need to get to Thailand right away. You set your focus to slam Tesla. I have read about how bad the Vinfast was and how they are being recalled. The ride is described as very poor. I was disappointed to read that the Vinfast was associated with poor quality and driving experience since they are going to build a factory in my home state.
Bingo - Alex slams Tesla every chance he gets. And Vinfast is not exactly taking off due to the issues you mentioned. Which is unfortunate, but also a reality.

If my only EV knowledge came from this channel I'd never buy a Tesla. I have a Model Y and it is BY FAR the best car I've ever owned. It drives great, is very comfortable and - after 17 months of ownership - I've never taken it to an auto repair shop or gas station.
It's just minor issue and already fixed via OTA. Vinfast sent a recommendation to NHSTA for a recall annoucement

Alex, at least two completely independent and trusted auto journalists have reviewed the VF8 and consider it below average.

I went to the Vinfast website and it said the car would be available in the USA by the end of 2024. Stated prices (which will likely change) reflect the current market for other EV's. Of Alex's five points, I am most onboard with Tesla's lack of manual controls, especially for heating/cooling and radio. However, my biggest concern is not mentioned here or in nearly any other EV reviews, and that's the charging network. I charge my Model Y at home with the exception of an occasional 250+ mile trip. Charging on the road has never been a problem for me...charging stations are plentiful and I am anxious to get out of the driver seat at the 200-mile mark. My understanding is that the Tesla charging network is far superior to the networks serving other car brands. There are probably videos and articles out there that analyze long-trip charging conveniences but I haven't run into one that would sell me on Tesla not having the best network.
FYI: You can now control a lot of functions including the AC with the left scroll wheel of the steering wheel of a Tesla 🤷🏾♂️
How often do u adjust those controls? For me it's like once every 3 months. U can use voice controls for all those

Yes, I'm owner of VF8 for nearly a year. Not only having ACC, VF8 have similar feature as Tesla Auto Pilot which can drive on highway automatically, quite smooth. I drove Tesla Model 3 in EU about 6000km and used this feature. I drove Volvo C40 in State for 3000km too. VF8 is better than Volvo in Auto Pilot, it catching up Tesla level of highway auto pilot. In Vietnam, VF8 can use Vinfast''s proprietary charging network (similiar for Tesla supercharge) so yes, it has trip planning feature. However, in US, I'm not sure.

Keep in mind that Vietnam's max speed limit anywhere is 80km/h, which is about 50mph. I'd like to see a crash test at 80mph in one of those. Lol

@@oshamochannel8683 don't live in Vietnam. I've been there twice and traveled to many cities by bus, van, car, and scooter. I don't claim to know every road and speed limit there, but over 90% do not have that high speed allowed. Either way, that's relatively new and I'm pretty sure they don't have laws on the safety equipment in vehicles like they do here in the US, or if they do, they aren't as strict or are bribed to be ignored. I'm pretty sure it's much more strict here.

Apart from the over 100 Chinese BEV manufacturers with pretty nice builds I will just mention XPENG's G6 here. Hope Vinfast aces it, too. As a German I can't stand European, US and Japanese legacy auto. Fun to see how they are going down.

You make some good points, but this "subscription" bullshit has to stop. I buy the car, I buy all of the features, for the life of the car. The biggest problem for vinfast honestly us that the cars looks so generic, if you told me the VF8 was a nissan or a KIA, or even a French shitbox renalt i would absolutely believe you.
Tesla is looking more and more like a charging station company, disguised as a car company. ExxonMobil may be their true competitor.
They can't make same amount of profit with cars anymore because of competition and they had to lower price drastically therefore more likely invested more for superchargers.

You can't list 5 reasons this "crushes" Tesla and reason one because it is the shiny new EV on the block.... that is not a feature that crushes anything.
I have personally never cared for Android Auto or Apple Carplay... so the loss of either one of those is no loss for me personally. I actually prefer the Tesla interface, or whatever factory Nav system comes with the car, every time.
But the worst part was... the criticism of Tesla when the channel was talking about the dreadful experience of the ID4, and mentioned specifically that VW had way more service locations that Tesla.
Ok Ok... that is a fair point. But... Vinfast has how many service centers so far...??? Around 10 or so... basically concentrated in Southern CA and the Bay Area. That is it!

As an ID.4 owner I am also thinking about replacing my ID.4 with the Ford Mustang Mach E, but it seems that the Mach E has the same poor experience with OTA updates. Many Mach E owners here in Italy reports no OTA updates at all, so what? Maybe Mach E owners in US are luckier? What is your view on this?

Wait...Car and Driver tested the Model Y and got only 220 miles of range?? I've had a Model Y for three years and I can tell you the only way I'd get that bad of range is to drive the car from 100% to 0% going 80 mph in a headwind, and with the outside temperature below 20 degrees. I know Tesla underperforms the EPA numbers, but 220 miles is nowhere near "real world" range for a Model Y.
my long range model 3 can drive about 215 miles cold condition may be 150
I live in east bay fi I play golf at Haggin off about 100 miles away get home abut 5% from 100% so it can not be more than 220. One December it ok my son to Monterrey about 100 miles in early morning I have less than 50% of batter from 98% so stated versus real is more than 100 miles different for Tesla
Björn Nylund tested model Y RWD in summer conditions and got 247 miles range so not huge difference.

Ok, it's hard to get accurate numbers for vinfast sales in the USA. That being said, it looks like they are selling around 100 per month. That doesn't exactly sound like people prefer them to a Tesla.
There are only very few on North American soil to actually sell so far. More are coming....and sales will grow in line. Deposits are your indicator at this stage, not sales.

Most features Alex pointed out may not matter to most people except the range! Well, for me, Autopilot alone beats all other brands to the groud. I also, wish to remind everyone that TESLA cars are super safe, and to my knowledge the safest ones out there.

That's interesting, but as Vietnam is also like China a one party autocratic dictatorships with wages of around 50cents/h (china 1-2 €/h) it's not interesting for me. At least you probably have less spyware in car and app, but I might be wrong. What's in your opinion the most fair EV?

I get it, but most of the early reports (not talking about just journalists here) give the impression this cake isn't fully baked yet. Wait a couple of model years to dive into this one.
Any new EV needs to have a while to prove it’s capabilities and needs time for service history. No need to praise an new EV brand where there is no service data to back it up.
Can't wait for the Chinese cars that arrive with reasonable prices.

VinFast is apart of the largest conglomerate, VinGroup in Vietnam similar to Hyundai of Korea. The companies been selling gas cars for 5 years. In the past two years have sold close to 10000 electric cars including VFe 34, VF5, VF8 and VF9 in Vietnam.
About 200 out of the 999 VF8 city edition are being leased and driven in California. About 2000 VF8
Eco & Plus trims have recently arrived in USA and Canada . With late June reserved customers will get it.

I don't like the Tesla for its customer service... abusive and manipulative practices and the total control over all aspects of the product. I don't want a xar that can be hijacked or controled by any company or law enforcement just based on suspicion.
