    I just discovered your channel; you are wonderful. Don't ever stop. I'm an old film guy too - struggling in a digital world. I loved my old Olympus OM gear and the darkroom work. Recently got a gift of a Canon EOS film camera, so found your channel while trying to learn about it. You are very helpful - probably more than you realise: so authentic, common-sense and down-to-earth: a refreshing cool breeze in an otherwise humid hothouse. Please keep it up.

    Good to know you watch Kai’s videos too. Most of the Canon’s can have their firmware modified (magic lantern) for a host of extra features(but you’d need a computer to get it onto the memory card sadly). Older digital cameras are becoming almost as alluring as old film cameras for me. Almost. Thanks for sharing.

      Hi, yup Kai is one I have been watching for years, it's his fault I got this camera, LOL
      The early digital cameras have their charms, the CCD sensored ones have their fans due to the image quality, the Nikon D200 springs to mind, I must admit to collecting them as well, affordable prices but they are rising, really like my 1DS mkii but it's so big and heavy...thanks for the comment, the Magic Lantern stuff will need investigating 😁

    Dad always said, "I'm not lazy, just working smarter, not harder". You'll probably going to get twice the output, with half the work. (Bonus for us,)
    Stay safe.Peace

      Hi William, thanks for your kind words, was worried about how the use of digital would go down with viewers but the response to the idea has been overwhelmingly positive,
      Thanks for your comment, much appreciated.....

    No prob with mixing it up film/ digital. Actually I encourage it as both tools give beifits both ways. Have fun sir.

      Hi Dave, you are right, photography should be fun, whether film, digital or both, I do prefer film though....

    Looks like a good pickup for a fairly reasonable price as things go. Personally I see no issue using film and digital what I shoot with on the day depends on what I'm doing and the weather. Good luck with your new to you purchases

      Hi James and thanks for your kind words, it was a Buy It Now so not the cheapest but cheaper than an A7, I also have most of the common mount adapters for the EF mount, so far so good with the camera, it's not very good for video but that's not my intended use....

    • @jamesal6138
      @jamesal6138 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thephotographersbag As long as it serves the purpose you bought it for right? I myself bought an A7II back in November and am now saving up so I can have atleast one native lens for when I can't be bothered to manually focus with my small olympus and Canon FD kits. But I can't argue with the results the cameras good but those FD lenses are sharp as a knife!

    • @thephotographersbag
      @thephotographersbag  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jamesal6138 Hi James, I did consider the original A7 but the mkii version seems to be a big improvement over it, I hope to add one at a later date, my Konica glass is hard to adapt to anything other than mirror less, the FD lenses have a strong following and were quite cheap, people have cottoned on and prices seem to be heading upwards, will try mine on the 5D but the lens in the adapter concerns me, Sony glass is really expensive but probably worth it if Zeiss in involved 😁

    • @jamesal6138

      @@thephotographersbag The IBIS in the A7II is well worth the extra expense you just have to remember to manually change the lens focal length when you change lenses or zoom. It's not a purchase that I'd think you'd regret that said it's not a very deep camera so even with my small hands I bought a Neewer clone of the original Sony battery grip. Sony glass is expensive I'll probably go for a zoom of some description as it'll levy me atleast some versatility. Just a quick thought there is currently listed for sale on the popular auction site that starts with an E and ends in a Y a Canon FD 35-105 f3.5 that's been converted to EF mount and has been declicked I presume for video work. It might be worth a look. I was looking at it in terms of buying to resell and keeping the bundled lens hood as they are hard to find but as its exceeded what I paid for my FD version that hasn't been fiddled with I've decided not to. I've heard good things about konica glass I may pick up a 40mm f1.8 if I see one going for cheap on or off a body I don't mind another camera to play with, that said I have somewhere I can easily off load anything I don't want to keep or don't mind loosing normally what little I have into it.

      Hi, the mkii is on my wishlist, and I will have to check out the lens you mention, the little 40mm f1.8 Konica lens is really sharp and has lovely colour rendition, usually cheaper if attached to a body.....

    I shoot both as well so no hard feelings here. Film and digital can co-exist. It's about picking the right tool for the job.

      Hi Martin, thanks for your kind words, everyone so far has been very supportive, and the video has gone mad with 2k views, now I just have to get the balance right, must admit film is my first love, used it for the longest time, but I accept the advantages of digital, hope combining the two will help me with making better and more varied videos,....

    I’ve got the original version of the 5D. I have a Nikon AI to EF converter, with a focus confirmation chip, and use my Nikon AI and pre-AI lenses on it.

      Hi, quite agree, affordability is important, especially at the moment, I felt bad spending this much on the 5D mkii, to me its a lot of money for one body, thanks for the comment 😀

      @@thephotographersbag From my perspective its awesome to be exposed to cameras I'd otherwise not have know about which I could actually possibly afford. Film and development costs aside its pretty crazy that you can buy a piece of beautiful working history for basically nothing and get so much joy out of it. I've learnt loads since getting my canonet and I was ecstatic with the pictures I got back, that's definitely the magic of film :).

      Hi, I have to agree with you, the mechanical cameras interest me more than the computerised modern stuff, designed to last by people with real craftsmanship 👍

    I don't think anyone passionate about photography should be a purist, film or digital. I'm 26 so I grew up with film but also got to explore digital as a teen. I don't think I would have had the chance to pursue it if film was the only way. Paper, film, chemistry. It adds up. Digital has allowed photography to be accessible to everyone. I wouldn't have it any other way
