4.3 Tip to share. I had a strange stalling, skip issue and no codes. Couldn't figure it out. Thought it was the fuel pump. With the engine running I pressed on wires and hoses looking for a vaccuum leak.. I pressed a wire and the engine shut off. Magic moment. The coolant sensor connector plastic stay tab had broken off. The coolant sensor plug was half in half out. I inserted and it started right up. I removed it and it stalled.. crazy issue to locate but I wanted to share with others.
Thank you! I have a 1999 S10 with the 4.3 V6 Vortec. I've been fighting this misfire for 2 yrs. I've replaced the wires, plugs, distributor and rotor button 3 times and each time it would get better for a couple of months, then right back to skipping again. Also, It was hard to start, misfired and skipped something awful when it was "cold", then it would run fine when it warmed up... EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS as you described here. After watching the video, I changed the MAF sensor, and viola, it runs perfectly, starts with one flick of the key, etc. Runs like a brand new truck (163,000 miles on it)
This is the best 4.3L diagnostic I've seen! Like you I can't buy it, so I build it! Your description is exactly what my wife's truck was doing. Engine out now, spun rod bearing but you can bet I'm going to follow your lead. Thanks!
My Dad's '03 Blazer LS is having a similar misfire issue. I was going to replace the spark plugs/wires & dist. cap for him, but I'm glad I came across your videos, very helpful.. And by the way, Merry Christmas ahead of time!
Love your attitude & way of life man!!! Awesome wisdom for the diy ers out here like us, thanks 4 all u do 4 us looking for the correct info!!! Merry Christmas!!!! From Russellville,Arkansas
Absolutely my friend just a red blooded hard working 7 day a week god fearing country loving man here as well. MARRY CHRISTMAS as well my friend. You are truly helping more than you know! Thanks God bless and merry Christmas as well!
Thanks so much for the info regarding the 4.3 engine. I really like to see your video on repainting of your chey truck, I have a 96 short bed I'm looking to repaint.
On my 2000 Blazer I got a P0300 code changed the fuel filter, distributor cap and rotor, about to change the ignition coil and wires to see if that fixes the code...if not I'm change the egr valve to see if it clears the code.. that should cover just about everything. Tach 600 warm 900 cold rpms don't jump....gas gauge is accurate that should cut out the fuel pump....we'll see what happens. I do the work I can do myself because shop costs get too expensive.
Nice video. I just bought two of these Low miles and no rust on either but the second one seems to have every possible issue, including random misfire at 2600 rpm.. I was hoping it was the EGR. lol
Yep! I have an 02' Blazer ZR2 4.3 I've had this issue, moisture many times under my cap or a new cracked cap. It will run great for about a mile then start misfiring, in my cases. I also Replaced the distributor, rotor, everything. Wires, plugs, ECM, coil, etc. She's always perred like a kitten ever since. I was starting to get poor mileage & changed out all 3 of my 02 Sensors & now I get 16mpg in town. The sticker mpg for 2002! She's been just a great runner. Got a new HD Tranny rebuild also 4 years ago. The stock Sunshields snap easily on these..
Another problem with the distributor is its actually too airtight believe it or not. There is ozone created inside the distributor cap as the rotor completes the circuit with the distributor cap contacts. There is a small vent with a screen in the base of the distributor that can get clogged with debris. Just punch the screen out so the ozone can escape.
I was just watching your series because I have a 1995 Blazer. Now I've subscribed to your channel.... just to make this coming Christmas a little merrier.
Awesome video and I love what you said about TH-cam as far as making money, you do this to help others and that’s a rarity these days as I’ve always worked on my own vehicles because I can’t afford to pay a mechanic , also I take pride in doing my own repairs knowing it’s done right. BTW, my 02 blazer ZR2 is that same dark green as yours, personally I love that color and haven’t seen many green ones. I did discover my 02 is EGR delete after searching my entire engine and doing some research online that GM did delete the egr starting in 02, it’s strange because some 02”s have them, I’m stoked mine doesn’t. Such a bad idea recirculating carbon particles back into your motor.
I have a 03 astro 4.3 Once a year I replace the distributor cap & rotor. And keep a cheap spare set in my van. Tried everything.. vent screens in and out, new distributor.. sealed around cap, dielectric grease inside etc.. nothing helped. I use the $60 Mallory or accell cap with $20 rotor. This cap has copper contacts. Seems to last longer
Lmao they cut your video for saying Merry Christmas lmao. that's wild! 🤣 Good video though. I have a old 92 Astro 4.3. It was runin lean too. Changed the EGR and gonna be fixing the plenum real soon. Will probably start on it today.
I have a 2003 s10 zr2 I just purchased sight unseen. I sent my wife and friend to go pick it up. Long story short it dosen't run the best. Runs ruff on the lower rpms. Should I start with the distributor.? I do not have a scan tool.
Thanks for taking the time to make this-Ive got a 2000 my sister was going to take to the scrap yard😆bit by bit Im learning to fix it as i go-it aint fancy but it gets me where i need to go😉
So if I changed the cap and rotor cables spark plugs cables distributor egr and mag sensor and still dose the same thing Im getting the misfire only on a cold start too what else would I need to change
I’m getting very bad run idling just like this when cold start but once warms up, Ryan’s pretty pretty good getting misfire codes. I’m wondering if you unplug the wire into the maf sensor should it stay running and does that mean it’s bad or should it stop running in that means it’s good
thank you for the info. i have a gmc sonoma 4.3. spits when the weather is cold. code says mass airflow sensor. crank sensor. replaced crank sensor, got better but sill spits when weather is cold. will replace mass sensor and try that. this 4.3 has 286 thousand miles on it.thanks again.
NOTORIOUS on the 4.3 - carbon trailing. There was a service bulletin yrs ago that says to TAKE OUT the vent screen b/c there's NOT enough ventilation to the inside of the distrutor. I also changed the crappy plastic distributor to an all aluminum. HUGE difference. Had a vacumm leak-same situation as you-but at the tee where it leads down to the fender tank. Hose was disconnected. AND the dang thing died while driving due to a CPS (crankshaft position sensor) fault. There's washers that come with those-make SURE it's in completely and NOT getting scratched on the end by the crankshaft. Other than that, I've got a 03 S10 w/ just over 500k miles on it now and STILL runs like a champ. Best thing about the 4.3 - SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO easy to work on w/o all the computer crap like today. Taking it down to the frame and TOTALLY restoring it cuz We've been to hell and back for over 20 yrs and She's gonna give Me ANOTHER 20. Nice vdo!
I have 95 s10 blazer that when it's cold it seems like it's missing soon as it warms up it will start popping through the exhaust were wold I start it got new plugs wires cap button altnator was bad changed it nothing seems be helping could you give me advice thanks
I have a 97 Gmc Sonoma with a vortec engine and I had a misfire yesterday but I noticed that the oil pressure was very high? Any ideas on what I need to do?
My 4.3 has a different intake. Its the Silverado, i changed plus wires distributor cap and button. Started her up she was idling fine, i gave her some gas let her idle started to put tools away and she jus vvvvvROOOOOMMM up to 3,500 hooked it up to a smoker cant find a vacuum leak
My 4.3 does something similar, but it’s after I’ve been driving for 10-15 minutes. I’m not sure what a misfire would feel like, but my truck basically turns off. I can still give it gas but it doesn’t go anywhere. Sometimes it completely shuts off but otherwise it’ll start up again after 5 seconds or so of coasting. I replaced the fuel filter yesterday and I’m still having the problem. Some people are saying it’s the fuel pump, injectors, relays and a couple other things. Any help would be appreciated! It’s a 1997 Chevy s10 4.3 vortec v6. Has an automatic transmission and 58,000 miles
I have a 2001 chevy blazer 4.3 v6 that has had the front Cat removed and the rear cat gutted? I have done everything to try to get it to run good put $$$ into it spider injectors, tune up, Maf sensor water pump, new distributor etc... I also have 02 sensors(have not installed yet) i bought since my code reader said bank one was bad . It still runs very rough I just want to get it running good sell... Any suggestions? Thanks for your time..
That was supposed to read change the spark plugs and the wires. LOL. Merry Christmas everyone. Might be time for a new distributor cap and a catalytic converter or two as well.
@@1ezeinda I did all that...its gone...I think it was a bad computer...just keep coming up with different codes all the rime...the first two blazers I owned never gave me issues...this was a piece of shit that I never should of bought...

I do agree with, helping in teaching for the greater good for all. Thank you for your diligence and tenacity in life .🏞️👍
what air flow module is it? you said it was lifetime warranty and not made in USA.

Thanks for adding this video it help me a lot I did all the work my self by watching ur video and save my self a expensive mechanic work 🤘👍
4:45 actually, the MAF just measure the amount of air coming in. As for air temperature, there is a separate sensor that detects temperature.
Which one is it my truck is having problems with it

Merry Christmas and thanks for telling us about the yt episode -

where did you get the mass air flow and what brand ??
Vacuum also affects your braking / brake booster and if your brake booster goes bad, your engine will not idle.
Thank you ,, what year is your vehicle?
Thank you you saved me thousands
Of dollars that is what my truck was doing plus the crankshaft position senser went out
Thanks for taking the time to make this-Ive got a 2000 my sister was going to take to the scrap yard😆bit by bit Im learning to fix it as i go-it aint fancy but it gets me where i need to go😉
Thanks, been fighting this miss for 2 years...and several caps, rotors, MAF, Spider., Distrbutor...on and on F... GM.
Did you ever get it figured out?
Please let me know you figured it out
So if I changed the cap and rotor cables spark plugs cables distributor egr and mag sensor and still dose the same thing Im getting the misfire only on a cold start too what else would I need to change
Thank You and God Bless.
I'm late to the party, thank you for the video. AND thank you for saying Merry Christmas!
Dude, I devoted to your videos and dedicating myself to bring back my lean engine!
How did you plug the vacuum canister?
I’m pretty sure the vacuum pod is needed to help in locking in the front diff 4x4
Thank you for the videos helps a lot!!!

I get a misfire code on cylinder 1. I changed the cap, rotor , plugs and wires. Bank 1 is running high over 10. Could it be the spider ? Thanks
Merry Christmas.
fyi to stop the door dinging temporarily you can turn the door lock to closed … and then pull it back out later to close the door

Change the spark plugs in the wires. Go with ACDelco. You can get them on Amazon for cheap. Gap them properly. Boom Chevy Thunder again.
That was supposed to read change the spark plugs and the wires. LOL. Merry Christmas everyone. Might be time for a new distributor cap and a catalytic converter or two as well.
