Erik, you can easily take care of your ulcerous colitis yourself. Get yourself a good coldpress juicer and press yourself 2 glasses (of the size you drink milk from) of white cabbage, every day. Do that for about 6-7 weeks and it's gone before it gets worse.

    EriK, I'm your fan!
I'm Brazilian, we don't have this sea like yours.
But for your adventures, one day I'll go to Iceland,
discover these beautiful landscapes in your country.
I hope you get better soon from your discomfort.
your passion for the sea is contagious
    God bless you, NBJS!

Wow, this brought back a lot of memories Erik. When I left Vestmannaeyjar for Reykjavik I had almost exactly the same weather you had --- large rolling seas and 25 kts of wind. I was as delighted as you were to finally arrive on mainland Iceland. 😊 Here’s hoping the medical challenge was overcome!

My heart aches for your suffering. I’ve had my own digestive issues now for 13 years. I’ve found that low carb, which means also low fiber, helps me. Think of it this way. Fiber is like sandpaper rubbing on a sunburn. Ouch! Also I make my own high count yogurt with organic half and half. There are certain microorganisms which are helpful. Your perseverance in spite of your physical difficulties is inspiring.

I wish you a speedy recovery, little pain and stable conditions. Your sailing: incredible. Leaves me breathless. Your videos: professional, with great, great attention to detail. Your boat: pure, down to the smallest corner. Sometimes I cross my fingers that you survive, even though I know you cut the movie later. Even episodes with little wind I love to watch several times. Inspiring.

Eric! I'm your fan for a long time. I'm (maybe not only me) waiting for you to tell us you're sailing around the world. In fact, you have everything that is most important to achieve this goal: a well-equipped yacht, and the ability to sail in difficult weather conditions ... The rest is time and money ... Watching your love for sailing and the ability to show it to the sailing community as well as your commitment and determination to achieve the goal, I think you should have no problem finding sponsors...
    You do it!

Hey Erik, just a little note about my sons battle with Crohns. After having surgery to remove part of his large intestine, immuno suppressant drugs and hospital stays he saw a nutritionist that’s also lives with Crohns. After 2.5 years he’s still symptom free and off the drugs. His diets for 1.5 years was extremely restricted and he showed so much will power at 19yrs old to stick to it. You seem like you’d have the same will power. Happy to provide details if you like. Good luck mate from NZ

Erik, you are one tough hombre! My cousin has had Crones disease since he was a pilot in the Air Force in the late 1970's (triggered by survival training.) He has been on medication most of his life, and although he has attacks as you do (less and less over time as he's learned to control it through diet, exercise, and meds,) he is super active - including sailing (mostly racing) and flying helicopters. He's now 65, so Crones is totally controllable. Gambatte from Japan!

    Hi Erik,
I am sure you are checking with the doctors but in my opinion it would help if you could consume only low fodmap foods with no carbs and sugar. Also two proper meals a day and no snacking if possible. Intermident fasting can help your gut heal itself. Alcohol-wise only distilled stuff or maybe wine.
Thank you for inspiring us with your amazing journeys! Following for more than a year now!
    Wishing the best

Hello Erik....Breaks my heart regarding the bouts of ulcerative colitis. I had a similar highly inflammatory gastric/colitis health event. After 2 years of discomfort and uncontrolled weight loss, I decided upon my own treatment method. I used Rhinocort, a nasal allergy spray that contains an anti-inflammatory synthetic corticosteroid. I inverted the pump and pumped 2 pumps with each pump being 32mcg into 4oz of water. I mixed and then drank the mixture. I initially did this once each morning and once each evening. Also, and concurrently, I modified my diet to be as PH neutral as possible. No coffee, no alcohol, no spices, no acidic sauces and etc. This method for me resulted in my first indication of relief at 8 days. I continued this procedure for 3-4 months and then tapered down to just mornings and but added evenings again if a flare occurred. At 8 months I stopped the Rhinocort procedure altogether. What I have described occurred 6 years ago. Today, I'm mostly symptom free and manage to keep a healthy weight while reintroducing a few tasty items back into my diet. While I cannot and do not suggest or condone this as a method for your condition or for any who may read of my experience; I believe that we can learn from others and decide our own course intelligently.
I wish you comfort in the future and thank you immensely for the fantastic adventures you have taken me on.
    Sincerely and with Best Regards...Richard

Your situation also seems to mimic a pilonidal cyst. Usually an inherited condition - creates swelling and a skin break, in a very annoying and sore spot at the tailbone. Gramps had it, mom had it, and I did too - had a small procedure and it never returned THANK GOD - embarrassing AND painful. Hope whatever your situation is, it heals and never returns. Thank you for the adventures. Stay safe. Stay Well. Fair seas and skies.

Hi Erick, I Love all your videos and your courage to go to sea. I hope your health improves. Try giving up processed food/ meat, also only use organic plant based foods and goats milk etc. this will help remove the inflammation and help the health bacteria thrive in a non chemical environment, which will also allow the healing process to begin. You bring hope and inspiration to so many and your strong spiritual connection to the sea and with the beauty of nature will see you through, keep up the good work, wishing you well from Ireland
