    At the end, should the auto gain be shut off? Or render master with on

    • @TheCratesMotel
      @TheCratesMotel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good question. You can do either to be honest. I tend to leave it off to be honest because I am so used to not having an Auto Gain, I don't rely on it. Thanks for watching.

    How does this compare to SIR StadardClip? I really like the layout of that clipper but also love Acustica products. SIR's visual feedback is really useful...essentially what you were using the FabFilter for.

      Hey buddy, thank you for watching. I like the visual element of StandardClip as well, and KClip, which is another clipper I use, but I tend to use my ears when I am clipping, so I personally don't really miss the visualisation element that is featured on StandardClip. I wouldn't say one is better than the other. They sound different. StandardClip can be quite transparent in Hard Clip mode, which is great and has it uses. Acustica's Clip definitely has a sound to it, a colour, and I love it. So, I would not choose one over the other, I love them both and will continue to use StandardClip, but also add The Clip to my tool kit.

      @@TheCratesMotel Thanks for the reply. I guess you got to the root of my question. If there was a discernible difference. Acustica is known for coloration and I was assuming this unit was no different. I also have KClip but tend to always reach for the SIR.
      Thanks for the older video of the Vertigo Saturation plug-in. BTW..really loved your breakdown and happy that I bought it. One of my very favorites...keep doing what you're doing.

      It's from my testing actually cleaner compared to StandardCLIP. Just by sending a sine wave into both fire the clip was always cleaner and had less aliasing on same oversampling values.

    Nice review. I am a bit newbie with clipper and I am not sure i understand why there is a true peak function. isn't the purpose of a clipper to cut all those peak and flatten everyting? With a true peak function it become a limiter and not a clipper, isn't it?

    • @TheCratesMotel
      @TheCratesMotel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a great question and without going into too much detail, you sort of have a point. But TP is not exclusive to Limiters and in this case is a justifiable addition to the plugin in helping peak levels stay under control for any sample conversions at a later date. I personally don’t tend to use it. There’s no particular scientific reason behind me not using it, I just don’t like the way it sounds. And that to me is of utmost importance.

    Thanks for the Insight Video. The Plugin comes with two versions: FIRETHECLIP and FIRETHECLIPZL. Do you know whats the difference is? What I can see is that the ZL version works with less latency from scratch. I cant find informations about the ZL version. Thank you!

    • @TheCratesMotel
      @TheCratesMotel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks for watching dude. Yes the ZL is Zero Latency. It is way more CPU hungry but would be useful for live recording and mixing.

    RE the 'autogain' level increase; ouch indeed. Letimix Gainmatch(different kind of plug of course) has clever solutions for this in it's settings with 'adjustment speed' and 'ear protection' exactly to protect for those level jumps - maybe AA could built something like that in

    • @TheCratesMotel
      @TheCratesMotel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it is definitely a bit of an issue, especially as you tend to work at high volumes with clippers.

    How is the CPU usage, i.e. can we use lots of instances of this plugin simultaneously?

    • @TheCratesMotel
      @TheCratesMotel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thank you for watching. As clippers go it’s good on CPU. Obviously if you have it on 1024 Oversampling then you’re going to run into issues but with x8 Oversampling I was running multiple instances and my rig is not a super computer.

      @@TheCratesMotel how do you clip hi hats to zero when their rms/peak is so low compared to a kick?

    • @TheCratesMotel
      @TheCratesMotel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think I would clip hi hats to zero to be honest. I may clip the hi perc buss with all the hats and cymbals, shakers etc summed together but not individual hi hats. Baphometrix probably has an answer to that question, as that is his style of mixing.

      Exactly! As I always say, "never do anything by default".
