I bought a 2022 Vulcan S in October 2021, after a very long hiatus of not riding. I looked at many different bikes from the Indian Scout to the Triumph Bonneville, and other great models. My brother manages a Kawasaki dealership, so I gave him a call when I was ready to buy, and hear his suggestions. I was eyeballing the Z900. Now, he rides everything under the sun, but has mainly been a supersport liter bike rider (after racing motocross since we were children). It helps that he knows what I like and considers my body type (6’4” and 215 lbs). He couldn’t suggest the Vulcan S fast enough. Not only because it had been some years since I’ve ridden last, but in his words, “Dude, this is a VERY fun bike to ride”. The Ergo Fit system also made it comfortable at my height and limb reach. Now, I wasn’t initially keen on a 650cc. I come from a Harley background, and customized them for decades, so I wanted more power. But at only 480 lbs, the power to weight ratio on the Vulcan S has plenty of get-up-and-go. So, I rode it for a year and he was right. It is a VERY fun bike to ride. I needed something nimble and responsive for urban riding, but also to take on longer trips occasionally. This fit both needs wonderfully. But the Vulcan S doesn’t come perfect out of the factory. I made MANY modifications to it. Here’s my list…. 1. Kuryakyn Mirrors (as all I saw was my shoulders with the stock mirrors). 2. Matt Gecko LED headlight. (The power of the sun at night!). 3. Chrome Glow LED tail light. (That huge stock eyesore had to go) 4. Pirelli Angel 2 Tires. (The stock Dunlops are slippery in the rain and cold) 5. Quad Lock handlebar mount for my phone. (The best in market. Get the vibration dampener). 6. Kawasaki power outlet and rear fender bag. 7. Radiator cover to protect from stones and debris. 8. Corbin or Mustang seat. Your butt will hurt after an hour on long rides without replacing that seat. The Game Changer… a new exhaust. Now, not everyone will have the luxury of this option, depending on your laws which vary from country, state, and locality. The stock exhaust is nicely, yet dangerously quiet. Drivers will not hear you nearby. Presence is safety on a motorcycle. I went with a Two Brothers race exhaust on mine, and boy what a difference! I didn’t have to change my O2 sensor, but I did need a Power Commander for conversion. After some serious re-tuning on the computer, it is a completely different motorcycle! More torque, more power, punchier in lower RPMs, higher rev between gear changes, and the sound is amazing! So loud that I feel bad riding through any neighborhood after the sun sets, so I’ll be adding a baffle to it this season (which will take it down 7dB). I have the bike ripped apart for custom paint at the moment. With all these mods, it’s going to be hard to trade it in for anything else near this kind of comfort and performance for the price. Granted, I’m fortunate to have some advantages for upgrades. My brother gets me good prices on parts and labor, and my decades of professional auto painting and customization experience save me a ton of money as well. Between the two of us, I can do anything I want to this bike. You WILL get some interesting looks and comments because the Vulcan S doesn’t fall into a particular category. It’s not fully a cruiser or a sport bike. It’s something in between, so it makes people stop and look. My friends get jealous when they see how much fun I’m having while we all ride. It’s making them re-think what they’d like to have. So while the Vulcan S is often touted as a “good beginner bike”, “perfect for women or smaller people”, etc. etc., I think that, while true, is a limited view on what this model has to offer. Every person that has jumped on this bike, from beginners to highly experienced riders that have been on everything, has said these same words… “Wow, this is a surprisingly fun bike to ride!” Isn’t that what this hobby is all about? If you want to look cool, get a Harley or Indian. If you want to look like Steve McQueen, get a Bonneville. If you want to look like our Lord and Savior Valentino Rossi, get a liter bike. But if you want a fun bike to ride, get a Vulcan S.
This comment has made me feel a lot more reassured for this bike, being 6"2 and very new to bikes it’s always my biggest concern, if it’s a good size for you then I’ll have no doubt this’ll be a good one for me too, thanks mate 💪🏽
Awesome comment, thank you. I was hesitating between a couple of motorcycles to buy and this has been the moment I decided that I will get me one too. Thank you and safe riding.
I own one and absolutely love it. I have added full windshield, floorboards, all LED bulbs, LED light bar, SHAD panniers and back box. Best Buy for the money for sure!
I own a 2015 Vulcan S, I've owned her for almost 6 years. She's a fantastic, reliable bike. I've toured all over Europe and UK on her. She has never let me down. Maintenance and service are not expensive. This bike is great at handling and has great power for her class. I like her so much that I can not bring myself to let her go and get anything else. I thought about getting an Indian Scout Bobber but it's way too expensive and probably won't be any more fun than the Vulcan.
Would you be comfortable on it for an 8 hour ride, A few months of cross country? The seat looks comfy. I'm 5' 10" / 178 cm, can I stretch a bit while riding? I'm looking at one for around town and a summer trip around the US.
@mitchellm90 I've ridden the bike for 11 hours with stops every 2 hours. Yeah, I got a bit of pain in the back but mothing major. With 2 hour stop intervals, it's ok. This bike is perfect for long runs and can handle town traffic with ease as well.
@@mitchellm90 the stock "mid-reach" seat kinda sucks, but if you opt for the "extended reach" seat (for 6'+ riders) it has a gel insert that helps a bit. Otherwise there's an aftermarket of more premium, comfy seat options.
i own a 2018, bought new, installed a windscreen, ( big improvement over the road), tail bag, 12v adaptor, and the non functioning mirrors, lovin every minute of it
2021 Vulcan S, absolutely love it. Changed out the terrible Halogen light for an LED. Changed out the chrome levers for adjustable black levers, added Kuryakyn floorboards, added a kickstand extension pad, and last, Puig engine guards…that is it. PERFECT!
I own Vulcan S '22. I love this bike man, I just love her! Although, I need one more category to fulfill my desires, I promised to never let her go of my garage for only one reason. SHE IS UNIQUE! I am from Greece and I traveled already almost the whole country on it in just 2 years! Only things I added on her was a Puig windshield, small size and dark, suitcases on the sides, tank-bag and a back for the passenger so we can both enjoy the trip a little better! She is absolutely amazing. She done good until now and I am sure she will do more in the future. I guarantee you this is a great bike for starters. Didn't I mention? She is my first!!! I wish you all safe and interesting rides!!!
Good video. I bought a 2015 under 6 months ago. Had 2100 miles. I put another 1700 roughly so far. Seems to be a good bike. When I bought it. It had the back seat and rest plus the Kawasaki soft saddles bags. I added a radiator guard and a puigi windshield. Ride safe everyone.
Having had this bike for 3 years now I have to say it has been awesome. Always get looks and lots of compliments. I bought it originally as a bike to get back into riding after a long hiatus (not wanting to go full on sport bike right off the bat). This summer I think it's time to sell and do an update (eyeing the Z900). If you're a beginner to intermediate rider and want something that is easy to ride, affordable, and fun take a Vulcan S for a test ride and see for yourself. Be safe and see you out there.
I picked up a 2016 Vulcan S earlier this year in the spring after having not ridden since like 2011. I've always been a fan of Kawasaki, as it was the bike I started out on; a hand-me-down '83 CSR 650 from my dad. I had been wanting a Ninja 650R for years but could never afford a bike. This year was finally the right time, but i've since outgrown the sport bike looks (nor am I as thin lol). When I learned that Kawi made a unique sport cruiser with the same engine i had loved for years, I was all in. It has been a great bike - have put about 2400 miles since April 30th. Definitely a great beginner bike, with linear power. Not too much to scare newcomers away, and not too weak to grow out of anytime soon.
I've owned many motorcyles since 1967 mostly Japanese models and four new Harleys. I will NEVER own another Halrey. The last one I owned cost $37000 and it broke down four times within the first year of ownership. I've been looking at buying another bike for a few months. I've considered the Royal Enfield Celestial blue Super Metoer 650 which comes with a windshield and passenger backresr, a Kawasaki Vulcan S, and a Triumph Speed Twin Chrome. At the end of the day I think I'm going to go with the Kawasaki Vulcan S because I'm sure it will be trouble free. The other brands are more maintenece and probably more trouble. The Kawasaki's I've owned in the past were always very confortable and very reliable. So Kawasaki Vulcan S here I come. Thanks for thr video.
Had a 2019 650s and was an absolute peach. Super fun, good steering, great mpg. If i add 1 thing that would take it to the next level is if it had crusie control. Not a deal breaker but after using it once on a friends zx-10r i fell in love.
You failed to mention the 3 point adjustment seat and footpegs on the Kawasaki. That's pretty important to buyers, especially something a first time buyer would look into.
I had a 2020 Cafe and I liked it but didn't love it. Traded it for a Honda Fury. I can see why many people really dig it and the main reason I let her go was it felt more like a sport naked with forward controls than a cruiser. I put about 5k miles on the bike and got a kick out of how quick it was but needed to go back to a V-twin, shaft driven bike because I'm lazy with maintenance and miss the sound.
Yes had my 650 performance ,5 years now and not a glitch, just fun and more fun.I get 67 mpg and about to swap out OEM tyres for Michelin, other than that bars, luggage racks, LED headlight, full fixed screen for winter. Two great things rarely mentioned, the engine braking is supern for great control (and mpg - less brakes used) cant understand dialling that out with a commander AND a great touring bike - solo loads of room for tent etc. For an ageing fart like me where leg flexibility is not what it was, the low seat height allows easy on/off access. Just love this bike, the only downside is no centre stand (probably too low for safety), a belt or shaft would be the icing on the cake!
Excellent review and I agree with your observation that this middle weight urban cruiser has the best HP and torque punch of anything available at an attractive price. I'm buying it. It's affordable and has all I want in a cruiser of its kind. Thanks!!
I have the new 2023 Vulcan S , it's just superb and rides really well, plenty of power if needed, I ha e upgraded the exhaust and am having a new Core Motorecycles comfort seat made for them longer journeys. It is just a special crusier
I’m thinking about to buy the Vulcan S650 for my next bike. I have’s several bikes and models thru my lifetime. Now my ride is a 1997 Suzuki intruder 1400. I restored it and looks like new, but is time for something new. I being looking for new models of all brands. In my opinion the Vulcan S its a hybrid that’s combined the confort ridding position from a cruiser, with the linear speed and ease riding mode of a naked bike. Must be a very nice and good purchase for that money.
Ive "ridden" a Gixxer 750 (dream bike) I loved it and then i took a break tried a Intruder 1400, i didnt really like it. But over the years Ive been eyeing the KVs 650 i just love how it looks. For my new upcoming bike im most certain it will be a Kawasaki Vulcan S
I own a 2022 Vulcan S (White/Blue) that I purchased as a first bike. Have been riding it for just under a year and it has been great. I purchased a windshield (Medium) and it made the ride worse with all the wind going directly to my helmet, and plus the naked look fits the bike. Has enough power to ride essentially anywhere, not heavy/easy to handle, and has been easy to maintain myself so far (I'm sure more complex maintenance and tools will be needed if I continue this hobby). Overall, the bike has been everything I wanted as a first bike and introduction into the world of motorcycles/riding. Ultimately, my goal is to purchase a Ducati Diavel 1260 in the future but that is 5 years away, this bike will be enough until then.
Owned a 2019 Vulcan S. Very fast and at about 12000 miles had to replace clutch, rear sprocket and chain. Will pull very hard in midrange and outran or definitely kept up with 100 and 103's cubic inch bagger bikes. Headlight is definitely inadequate for a dark mountain road but other than that it's a good little ride. 4 seconds to 60 and about 8ish to 100 and then you are done.
Ticks all the boxes.Light fast refined and comfortable .If I were to upgrade this model, like review mentioned better brakes and also a bigger tank.Oh and a few more factory beans never hurts.
I am in the process of purchasing, I am second guessing as I wanted speed and the comphy stance. I wasn’t sure to get this or a naked bike, I choose this and hope I don’t regret it
I'll be taking my mod 2 in December and looking to buy my first powerful bike in January. I've been looking at the vulcan 2023 for a while, now, and all i needed was a straightforward video review. Thanks for helping me affirm my choice for the vulcan!
The royal enfield gps is useless, you need to use your phone to see turn by turn, better off removing that feature for a lower cost and including a phone mount
I have gotten to old for the loudness of my Harley, i parked it for 8 years with only 10k on it. took it back out of storage. its up and running. but i want to sell it, and get something like this Kawasaki. i can get enough to cover the cost of a new motorcycle cause Harleys are freaking expensive. but i did as much as i could to make my harley with its 1200cc engine comfortable. except when i was in my chopper phase. so it has no rear suspension anymore, it was converted to hardtail. and my 40 year old spine does not like it. but it is way to much engine on that sportster frame, but it has forward controls 12 in black ops handles. its like bobber/chopper looks nothing like a stock sportster anymore.
Great video dude. I'm considering buying a 2019 as my daily commuter in the city. What do you think? Is it up for the task or the suspension is not that comfortable for that?
I’ve had mine for three years. I’m 5’11 on a good day. After I put the optional passenger seat on, felt I could jump back there and ride stretched out if I needed without losing confidence in control. This is a really great bike.
I’ve a 2018 Vulcan S which is considered a ‘big bike’ in my country India which incidentally is the world’s largest motorcycle market.. It has been a mixed bag for me. I love its looks, power, torque & agility.. But I’m not such a fan of its low ground clearance, suspension, instrument dial, halogen lamp etc.. Still I love it and hold on to it for ever ! In India, we can buy 2 Super Meteors for the price of one Vulcan S !
I have had this bike for 2 years it was my first motorcycle and the only one I have ever bin on I feel like I want a a bit more power like 100-120 hp what would you say is a good comparable upgrade.
To step up from the Vulcan S would probably take you near the Rebel 1100 territory, if not some new Harley Sportsters. If you want a bit of exotica perhaps the Ducati XDiavel will do for you 👍
@gmmotomedia thanks I have never heard of the diavel looks exactly like what I'm looking for. My dream bike would be the vulcan s with the 1400 concours engine in it.
Thanks! It does a lot better. In fact if feels a lot more like a naked bike rather than a cruiser. Foot pegs can be adjusted for a sportier riding position and that will allow for greater lean angle 👍
I bought one to learn on, replacing the Honda Shadow 1100 I bought before that. The Vulcan S was leagues better for so many reasons. I'll probably get another because I crashed and totaled it before I got my endorsement, my own lack of skill, nothing to do with the bike.
I was actually considering this bike but I ultimately ended up going for a 2022 moto guzzi v7 (850cc) because it was on sale for essentially the same price. I think moto guzzis are a lot harder to find though, wouldn’t really be an easy option to go for. I think my bike has a lot more character and quirkiness but from my research, the vulcan has a lot of pros as well. This would’ve been my choice if I didn’t happen to stumble upon the v7 randomly scrolling through dealer inventories nearby.
The V7 is an excellent modern classic but it definitely isn't a cruiser. It would've given you a completely riding experience. Perhaps you were meant to get a classic afterall and the Guzzi is a top bike man 🤙
All good except for two things 1 the chains i dont know why they didnt use belt or shaft they chosen chain drive 🥴 2nd Kawasaki and suzuki use alot of plastic not like yamaha they use metal, there is aluminum and carbon fibers but
you guys are missing whole point. first never use a wide-angle camera, that is for shooting inside the car where there is no room. second, show the whole picture of the bike, start the engine wiithout getting on it, turn the gas give some good sound and view of the bike, then start talking.
I just bought the 2024 vulcan S. I feel the foot gear mode is annoying and the vibration. Im 5" 3 and its crampy for my female foot. I also prefer it was smooth as ice like my last bike, Honda. To me this is more fore a man. My hands hurt. Just this womans view as a personal buyer. The VS has 6 gears...a lot of steps not riding that fast for the distance to the next light which is far but...not for 6 gears. I also just got it, i guess shes breaking in and im listening to squeals on the breaks. Something i never heard with the honda. Im not enjoying my rides with this bike. An almost $11,000 purchase when all said and done took me by surprise. Maybe ill like it more down the road. Its a beautiful bike. I jumped quickly. I should've looked for a desirable color. That military look is not me. Im a female. I chose this bike out of the stores selections for safety reasons as it was a step up in size compared to an attractive honda 500. I mean who has fun driving in the city. All i do is switch gears lol. Its a nice bike. Just not for me. Oh boy lol
I believe i speak for everyone in the americas watching this video. Wth is a kilogram, liter, and milimeter trasnslate it instead of using the metric system. Its called playing to your audience
Cruisers aren't usable below 1500cc, I don't recommend buying this bike. You'll be disappointed about not being able to maintain highway speeds and trade it in within a month.

Thanks!!
Thank you 👍
Nice lookin machine,I watched some TH-cam videos and then a couple ò weeks ago I sat on one at the local dealership, and now I want one!
I have the new 2023 Vulcan S , it's just superb and rides really well, plenty of power if needed, I ha e upgraded the exhaust and am having a new Core Motorecycles comfort seat made for them longer journeys. It is just a special crusier
Do a before and after ECU flash on the Vulcan S. Do a comparison w the POS Booster plug.
Ive "ridden" a Gixxer 750 (dream bike)
I loved it and then i took a break tried a Intruder 1400, i didnt really like it.
Thanks for sharing your experience 👍
I think
It is. Well done. Tight
I am thinking this or royal enfield super meteor 650. Definitely need to have a test drive on both to decide
4 seconds to 60 and about 8ish to 100 and then you are done.
clutch replaced at 12k miles makes either your skills bad or the bike quality is poor
Ticks all the boxes.Light fast refined and comfortable .If I were to upgrade this model, like review mentioned better brakes and also a bigger tank.Oh and a few more factory beans never hurts.
Good value and reliability at an affordable price.
My favorite bike ever
I am in the process of purchasing, I am second guessing as I wanted speed and the comphy stance. I wasn’t sure to get this or a naked bike, I choose this and hope I don’t regret it
Please add imperial measurements for the specs. Maybe just a graphic. Really really good video though. Thank you so much.
Love the Vulcan S, dedicated my TH-cam page to it.
Ride safe all 🤛🤜
I'll be taking my mod 2 in December and looking to buy my first powerful bike in January. I've been looking at the vulcan 2023 for a while, now, and all i needed was a straightforward video review.
Thanks for helping me affirm my choice for the vulcan!
No prob and good luck biker 👍
my first 650, cant recommend it enough
in the meantime and after the recent price increases in Germany you get for the same money a honda 1100 rebell - a no brainer
Very interesting 🤔
No idea which Germany you live in, but thats totally not the case. 2-3k difference
The royal enfield gps is useless, you need to use your phone to see turn by turn, better off removing that feature for a lower cost and including a phone mount
I wish it had a normal round headlight. If I bought one I would add another 1.5" to the seat cushion.
have the older little brother to this, the Vulcan 500. so much fun in such a nice package
I'm going to buy it in 2024. I don't have enough experience with owning a bike like maintenance etc.
I'd appreciate any help
It's true there is not enough cruiser options in the market now
The Keeway’s motor looks identical to the Hyosung Aquila 650.
I am about to buy my first bike, the Suzuki GN 250 2004. I think I know what my second will be.
When upgraded its nice❤
Great video dude. I'm considering buying a 2019 as my daily commuter in the city. What do you think? Is it up for the task or the suspension is not that comfortable for that?
Thanks! Just do it man it's great for thst
Why no Yamaha Bolt but the Reble? On way to Moto show in Medellin thanks for vid!
The Yamaha Bolt has been out of production for some years now here in the UK.
Hmmm, he keeps saying Binelli 502C but those are all in other countries from what Ive found. What am i missing?
i like the look and style
Thoughts on this bike for taller riders? I’m 6’4 but don’t want to purchase a huge bike as they generally cost more. Curious about this one
You should be just fine if you set up the foot controls as forward as you can 👍
I’ve had mine for three years. I’m 5’11 on a good day. After I put the optional passenger seat on, felt I could jump back there and ride stretched out if I needed without losing confidence in control. This is a really great bike.
I have this bike and fort the same about the brakes
I’ve a 2018 Vulcan S which is considered a ‘big bike’ in my country India which incidentally is the world’s largest motorcycle market..
It has been a mixed bag for me. I love its looks, power, torque & agility..
But I’m not such a fan of its low ground clearance, suspension, instrument dial, halogen lamp etc..
Still I love it and hold on to it for ever !
In India, we can buy 2 Super Meteors for the price of one Vulcan S !
Upgrade to full exhaust to increase ground clearance. It's that stock exhaust tank under the belly that keeps on scraping speed bumps.
@@hcdangan Unfortunately a full exhaust costs around 1K USD and also aftermarket exhausts aren’t legal in India.
This bike does 120mph
How does it do in the turns? Does it scrape easily like HD's and Indians? If not what would you compare it to? Nice review thanks!
Thanks! It does a lot better. In fact if feels a lot more like a naked bike rather than a cruiser. Foot pegs can be adjusted for a sportier riding position and that will allow for greater lean angle 👍
@@gmmotomedia Good to know! Thank you!
It eats turns like a sport bike.
I bought one to learn on, replacing the Honda Shadow 1100 I bought before that. The Vulcan S was leagues better for so many reasons. I'll probably get another because I crashed and totaled it before I got my endorsement, my own lack of skill, nothing to do with the bike.
Wish you the best of luck pal 🤙
Gracious, I hope you're ok. God Bless and ride carefully.
What does it take to have ABS and dual discs?
What kind of MPG does the average rider get?
I’m 6’2” and 250#….
I know mine will be less.
I think the front pegs need to be longer, i feel like i restmy foot on the brake.
Perhaps you were meant to get a classic afterall and the Guzzi is a top bike man 🤙
Nice video
Ta 👊
All good except for two things 1 the chains i dont know why they didnt use belt or shaft they chosen chain drive 🥴 2nd Kawasaki and suzuki use alot of plastic not like yamaha they use metal, there is aluminum and carbon fibers but
What if I am 6ft5 260lbs, is this right for me ? Also foot size 14US and long arms 82 inch wingspan.
No mention of its no.1 competiror the indian scout.
Marvelous bike...
It would be worth it if they put the Versys 1000 motor in it like Honda did with the rebel 1100.
Interesting 🤔
The Harley 750 isn't in this category??? 100cc makes THAT much difference?
Bring back the Mean Streak
Thoughts on the vulcan s cafe vs this?
This becomes a KVS Cafe when you add the over priced cafe cowl
I can't believe they would not have double disc brakes
W is the engine vibes at 75mph? I hate a buzzy engine.
Not really buzzy I think once you get past 80-85 It'll start to get a bit annoying
Nice video about Royal Enfield.
Quite attractive indeed.
you guys are missing whole point. first never use a wide-angle camera, that is for shooting inside the car where there is no room. second, show the whole picture of the bike, start the engine wiithout getting on it, turn the gas give some good sound and view of the bike, then start talking.
Vulcan s is only $1000USD cheaper compare to rebel 1100..wher I live ….which 1 would u choose?anyone?
Rebel 1100 bigger motor all led and dont have to upgrade to a bigger bike at a later stage.
The 1100 non CTV . It's a Honda it'll run forever and that motor is amazing.
Do u think 2 Metre Man can enjoy this bike? Closest Vulcan here are 150km away.
A big guy like you will need to make some proper adjustments to the bikes controls but it can definitely be done 👍
Oh boy lol
You should have gotten the indian scout
I've ridden the Indian scout and of course that's really nice but have you seen the price tag on that?
This bike shuts on the Indian scout in terms of speed and comfort
Is ABS available?
Yes it comes standard in Europe and UK
@@gmmotomedia Good to know. Trying to find out about the ABS situation in the USA with the 900s.
Every penny .
way better then rebel no?
Most people seem to agree with that. Although I haven't ridden the Rebel yet
How to put on a booster plug
Well the Vulcan S is definitely 'the cutest girl' of the pack.
Only problem is headlight.. wtf is that bro? Just put regular round one
Round sucks. Meant for cheap bikes
❤
I believe i speak for everyone in the americas watching this video. Wth is a kilogram, liter, and milimeter trasnslate it instead of using the metric system. Its called playing to your audience
Oh boy, you realise this is England right?
Research counter steering u clearly don't understand the concept..
Why u so mean
Damn your triggered 😂
현대기술도 없고 계기판도 올드한데 가격은 현대적이다
2 weeks is not living with it!
The stock shock on the Vulcan is terrible and will on a journey pound your spine. Has zero play on the upside, awful!
My only complain is the sound of its stock exhaust..pathetic.
Not a lot you can do with a 180 crank p-twin
Cruisers aren't usable below 1500cc, I don't recommend buying this bike. You'll be disappointed about not being able to maintain highway speeds and trade it in within a month.
