    The Mary Phillips thing irritates me because it isn't "her" technique and I think it is such a slap to other makeup artists, like Scott Barnes, who was doing this lloooonnnggg before she was and probably where she got it from. Giving credit where credit is due seems to be a lacking thing nowadays.

    As someone with very oily skin, I have been doing matte skin ever since I started wearing make up and I'll never change. My skin starts to get shiny within 30 minutes of putting make up on so it makes no sense for me to use dewey/glowy products. Hoping that this 'trend' means brands will bring out a bunch of matte products this year xx

    • @kimberley3577
      @kimberley3577 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Also, brands need to understand that there are LEVELS to oily skin. Some people just have superrrr oily skin no matter how much we moisturize and drink water and they need to make products that work for level 4 oily skin greaseballs…not just slightly slick skin

      Don't say never! I had very, very oil skin until i turned 50 years old that ended for the best because oily skin needs lot of attention, breakouts, pores, plus no makeup last having to reapply it all the time and guess what I have love makeup s since I was a child so imagine my struggle! Love that I can put on oils and heavy cream, plus all this new glowing makeups.

    On the eyeliner thing - something interesting, aside from the understandably annoying act of models leaving residue make up on, is that Indians love and do this constantly, since decades :) We’ve been tightlining our bottom lash line since a LONG time (and this in fact has some cultural significance for us as well) and the next day after having properly washed your face the night before, your eyes still have that mild residue of the day before’s tightlining and it makes your eyes look pretty and defined without being too intense. It’s like a milder situation :) But of course, not talking about models, just regular people living life haha. So it was funny for me to see people “discover” this when it’s been a thing we’ve loved doing over here in India since, as I mentioned, decades! Always interesting to see very regular practices of certain cultures or countries become “trends” in the US but it’s simultaneously nice to see people discover fun, good stuff.

  • @Mallika99
    @Mallika99 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I think the choice between matte vs dewy would also depend on your skin type. I tend to go for a mix of dewy and matte / powder products since I have dry skin. My skin overall ends up looking matte-ish yet radiant. Not cakey since I don’t use many products and do a very intense + dewy skincare routine, but neither do I look super super shiny / glowly after makeup due to some powder products. A super dewy look somehow makes my face feel sticky. Basically I like my makeup to not really be too extreme on either end. And I think if you have really oily skin, going for matte products also makes sense since your skin’s gonna add the shine anyway! So it totally depends on personal preference and skin type as well, aside from only considering what’s currently trendy :)

    "I want to look like a pancake??!" Listen some of us have extremely oily skin. I'm in my late 30s almost 40 and my skin type hasn't changed. I also am a teacher who walks around a lot and sometimes sweats. Some of us don't have the luxury to follow "trends". We have to stick to the full coverage, 24 hour matte everything and yes that means sometimes packing on the powder because within ONE hour I look at myself in the mirror in my work bathroom and I'm a greaseball. This is why I'm always on the hunt for matte sunscreens as well. The glowy look works for dry skin and for people who are just sitting all day in an air conditioned room, but don't make it seem like that's the right way for everyone and like the rest of us are doing something wrong. So I hope they keep rolling out as many matte products as possible!!!

    I think the best direction for makeup to go (as far as Matte/Dewey skin) is to take the best of both worlds and combine them for perfect, flawless, not heavy and cakey makeup. We have so many beautiful “soft matte or luminous matte” complexion products and such a good combination of matte and glowy blush, bronzer & highlight products. Makeup could go in a really natural and beautiful direction easily.

    Trends come and go and yes, technically everything in this video is a trend. I understand the frustration of knowing something that others just found out about, but if a whole new generation is being put onto it then it is in fact "trending". It will only get worse the older we get, I'm sure people in the 1800's were doing things we act like are brand new today. Best we all stop letting the word "trend" trigger us lol.

    It seems a little silly to me to say you've been predicting a switch to matte makeup for two years, because there are mostly only two options so it's going to switch between the two every few years. I would say part of the reason the KarJenner brand is struggling is because of Kylie's full matte glam and not being able to adapt to the lighter, dewier era we're in--I really don't see Kylie Cosmetics making a big comeback to its former glory. But I do agree with the rest of what you both said about something in the middle being ideal, with smaller things changing like the lips.

It's just not very respectful to ppl who actually suffer from that condition. Same goes w calling something "insane" or "crazy". Let's up the compassion just a little bit. Thanks.
