I was part of the movie, I was a roadie with the band best experience ever. The lads were really lovely and very talented, the guy who played the drums was an actor and learned the drums also the guitarist was an actor too he learned to play guitar but bassist was a guitar player and did bass very well and lead man was in a band but was not an actor apparently picked cos he looked like Ian. Since this film he has done more and is a really good actor.

You are welcome. Just wanted to tell you guys on here, who love Joy Division they really were good! Also all my band equipment i.e. Stands Microphones, wires and pa were hired from me for the whole film. When I seen the riot after ian couldn't sing cos had just come out of hospital from attempted Suicide, I thought wtf hahaha in the film all my equipment was laying all around the room and Ian was leaning on my big stage speaker, in that scene after the riot scene lol

Control was one of the best music biopics ever made. The dude that Played Ian actually channeled Ian Curtis. He must have studied every tape of Ian there ever was. He nailed his mannerisms and dancing but even took it further by actually capturing things like the way Ian would have his eyes half closed in a trance like state. There isn't a whole lot of Ian Curtis video that I have seen the best is the Granada stuff so it's great to see the everyday Ian Curtis sitting at his desk at work.
These types of movies either work or they don't and fail hard. This movie is an example of how it's done perfectly. While watching it I actually believed I was watching Joy Division on and off stage. Especially the way Barney Rubble was so into himself and his just standing still bit on stage to Hooky's long strap low hanging high playing perfect bass and Stephen's giant chin and nervousness all the while playing drums like a machine.

This is wonderful! The only thing that I found about his portrayal of dear Ian is that he was a bit too confident, Ian always struck me as someone not too comfortable in his own skin - and was a bit unsure of himself. He just screamed it while on stage, he'd lose control of himself and let it all out while on the mic. Whereas with the actor that wasn't fully embodied, I feel. Still an amazing film & a great portrayal nonetheless!

And they really took the time to get people that looked so much like them. I saw the film in the cinema as part of an audience of three. I remember thinking they couldn't have picked a better actor for the role of Ian. I also remember that I couldn't keep my feet still as the music was so superb.

It was an amazing film. It didn't need to capture every scene perfectly, we already have the footage. By god, it captured the energy of the band. I thought all four members of Joy Division were excellent, particularly Peter Hook.

    Fantastic movie however
they glossed over his condition and the toll it took. The medications did as much damage as the illness. The side effects alone were enough to emotionally cripple anyone. Let alone a 23 year old with a wife, a child and on the verge of super stardom. Kudos to Deborah for not focusing on all the agony she must have endured. Loving someone who is incapable of loving you back is a very heavy weight to carry.

His portrayal is so much better than the guy who plays him in 24 hour party people . I never really knew the story behind the band, the lead singer or their story in music. I knew of one song. Watched control and now I'm obsessed by the whole story and rise of the band.
Riley captured Ian in opposite ways off and onstage but at the same time expressing his sadness and pain in scenes where he's either giving it all on stage or suffering seizures. Control is an amazing and heartbreaking story of a British music legend. Gone too soon for so many reasons . Forever remembered by millions more.

The original "" Something Else" programme that also had the jam on it was a kids TV show "Something else for young teens" named after the Sid Vicious (cover)..song , crazy to think Joy Division were on kids TV and why that was neve r shown in the film,I saw then twice as Wasaw supporting other bands and then in 1979 as joy Division and they were amazing!! Along with Magazine the best bands I saw at Eric's punk club in Liverpool in 1978/79 (I was 14/15) if I remember right it cost 1pound twenty to get in ..Lol we also saw the Clash,Damned 999 X-ray spex, suicide, the slits,Magazine, the buzzcocks,adverts,999,Rezilloes,Souxsie and the banshees the Fall John Cooper clarke, gang of 4,the cure, the strangers, steel pulse,Elvis Costello reckless eric,Ian dury and the blockheads, I was so lucky to be in the right place at the right time the under 21s on a Sat afternoon ( one of the great things punk gave us! ..under21 gigs with no booze( we got our own on the way ..lol )

Yeah absolutely!!! - so glad you made this vid. - Big thumbs up!! - I thought the movie was a bit of a generalised cartoon of what really happened, BUT - the acting of Ian Curtis on the mic was truly amazing: and totally indistinguishable - he must have been channeling Ians spirit - no doubt! - thanks again, great work! 👍👍👍👍 !!

This is incredibly hard to do! Amazing work from the crew who recreated the shots (with more of a cinematic look of course) but got to give it to the actors my gosh the accuracy of the moves even the stance of the them just playing their instruments, but you know the dude playing Ian rehearsed shot by shot how to move

Some of these are a little bit different.
When tony talked at the beginning of "transmission" in control, this is the "intro" of "Shadowplay" which they also played at "something else"
And where they playing "leaders of men" its actually "at a later date", because Bernhard says at the beginning "does anybody remind rudolf hess?" and at the live show of "at a later date" it was the same.
Anyway, i fucking love this movie!
