It was amazing how these actors learned to actually play Joy Division songs live in the movie. I really thought it was the original at first. Not a lot of bands out there who can do JD just but these actors should made it come alive. WOW
Jason Unsell Maybe nobody wants to play JD songs because Joy Division songs are very, very simple to play. What makes them special is the fact that they are so unique. The band invented goth rock.
Wow yeah!! I can't stop laughing at choice Rob Gretton here ( which is all of them!) Toby Kebble is Fxxxing amazing and I fancy arse off the guy who plays Hooky. He's a winner!! 100%!🎸💔💔🌠🌠🌠🎤🎼🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤🎻🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭😭🤣🌹🌹🌹
this film has the best photography of any film i’ve ever seen. the contrast is perfect, bold but not overdone. Whoever was in charge deserves an award.
+MrCamelneck What's so strange about your comment is that I believe he's a great singer in this film too, but he was in a band and that didn't turn out so well
Shows you that Ian was already poetic and minimalistic even in his early years. He saw the changing face of punk and moved with it. He wasn't spiking his hair or sticking safety pins in his nose and instead found a more subtle yet profound way to get the message across.
Amazing... Listening to Decades at moment it's the clarity and Martin Hannett was a wicked wizard a true legend then and never forgotten. 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇮🇪🇮🇪💋 Samantha Morton is always a good choice..! XXX😢😢😂❤❤❤❤❤❤
i've seen this movie! very dark and depressing but very good! i didn't know much about ian curtis until i seen this movie! what a dark life he had even though he was sick!
Ian Curtis....how can you say you don't know much about him...him & joy division..where what Manchester was at the time grimey but fucking excellent for bands...been into joy division since I was 14...46 still my favourite band
Because you get the feeling you belong. Same as I do, same as every JD fan does. We belong, whether there at the time or discovered them in the years after, we belong
Fucking awesome.... I saw this six times in the theater.. and I have it on DVD somewhere.. I need to get it off Itunes or something... I misplaced. it.. This film is 10 years old already.
Great film, one of the best rock, bio pics of all time. Too bad Bernard and Co. gave the green light for those shit videos "reimagining" tracks from U.P.s and Closer a few years ago. Absolutely embarrassing, those. But this, this is great.
The best thing about Joy Division is their legacy. How they cast the gloom and doom over the music world. Sad ballads became even worse and boring when these guys came along. And I don't like sad ballads. Should we blame them? Nah. We should congratulate them.
Because he was still very young and hadn't figured things out yet. If he would have lived, he may have matured and grown out of it eventually but sadly his illnesses got the better of him and cut his time on this planet short.

wow-same!
I agree with you. No one though thought of the term Goth Rock back then. They were labeled Post Punk.
@@jasonunsell2778 Ian Curtis reminds me of Jim Morrison in vocal and performance style.
Luv and Peace.

the director Anton Corbijn is a photographer and took photos of joy division back in the 80s
Sam Riley was superb in this film-he plays it very straight and sincere and you genuinely feel what he's going through!
71crm I agree and he can sing, too. IMO his vocals are far superior to that of Ian Curtis. He also does a fantastic job at imitating Ian's nerd dance.
+MrCamelneck What's so strange about your comment is that I believe he's a great singer in this film too, but he was in a band and that didn't turn out so well
Manon maybe Sam Riley didn't get the right break as a musician. Talent doesn't mean marketability and therefore success, unfortunately.
i love his hate jacket its so simple but means alot
and its badass

I want a jacket like that but I’d probably get arrested and lose my job these days.

I have it on Blu-Ray and I have read the book TFAD touching from a distance which is an interesting read wriiten by his widow Debbie.

disorder was always my favourite joy division song and it sounds even better sped up how they do it in the film
I also like this acoustic cover

The song that starts at the one minute mark is No Love Lost. Hope that helps.
when Bernard presses that button before he leaves i always laugh
Yeah funny I was laughing at that
First band I got into watching a movie about them
Why is Joy division the one band I keep coming back to?
Because they are perfect.
Because you get the feeling you belong. Same as I do, same as every JD fan does. We belong, whether there at the time or discovered them in the years after, we belong
Cus you like them?

Desde que ví esta película Sam Riley se ha vuelto mi actor favorito, ya que tiene películas muy interesantes y poco usuales.

Peter Hook is God
Almost but not quite.....
4:35 what song is that?
Isolation
The best thing about Joy Division is their legacy.
How they cast the gloom and doom over the music world.
Sad ballads became even worse and boring when these guys came along. And I don't like sad ballads.

We should congratulate them.
Unfortunately Ian was a very selfish person, why are musical geniuses like that?
A Young lad in a punk dog eat dog environment. can’t say I blame him for soaking it up.
Because he was still very young and hadn't figured things out yet. If he would have lived, he may have matured and grown out of it eventually but sadly his illnesses got the better of him and cut his time on this planet short.
...lol uh like "Taddy Mason" from Rick & Morty?
Terry not Taddy
@cragus2004 No Love Lost
manchester lol
5:45 - epilepsy or drugs?
Epilepsy.
I could do without the relationship bits and just focus on the band. Came off a tad melodramatic.
no love lost
