Great job on that Weber. As for the Oom Paul ..... you put a lot of time and energy into it and it came out looking fairly well. I hope it smokes good for you Tim.
The name comes from a former South African president, Paul Kruger (Oom Paul/ Uncle Paul) always smoking this type of pipe, he was also a general in the Anglo Boer War
Nice find! Found a similar oom paul with a more Hungarian (box- flat bottom) shape bowl (yours looks more like an egg.) I'm not 100% but I think it's a pre 1940s model. The history it holds is immense!! Equally in poor condition so I'll have my work cut out reviving it. Not sure I will go the full marathon as you did on the bowl. Albeit the stem will take work...the previous owner(s) were either part piranha or barracuda 😂 😂😂😂...all chewed up like a k9 hide. My hope is to sand off as much as possible and see what happens. Oxidation is worst I've seen...basically looks yellow white with light brown...sooo either a good soak and buff will win the day or imma just need to have a new one made (I don't have those skills or tools) Anyway thanks for posting...motivates me to get busy & restore this relic! Great vid! Cheers & Happy puffs! 🙂👍
Thank You. Glad you enjoyed the video. I don’t understand why people would abuse their pipes so. Good luck on restoring your pipe. Thank you for watching.
@@The_Southland_Piper Good question.🤔 If you ask me I take into consideration the year Custom-Builts started up and followed on...World Wars... Great Depression... Dust Storms..life hanging by the wire for many.. I can only imagine the amount of neurosis rampant among so many. Long story short...I understand my great grand father and grand father were met with psychosis after their service abroad. Normal guys met with all kinds of challenges etc....I don't think ptsd was a term then (there was shell shock but not much was done and many just swallowed bottles of homemade hooch in full just to cope)....so yeah whatever the reason(s).... just a ton of history to ponder with every effort to restore these relics! Anyway....Cheers! And have a Great Weekend! 🙂👍
Miracle Mud was a product made by Aristocob.com. It’s unfortunate but it looks like they shut down in December 2022. It is a pipe mortar that they made. Works great. CaneRodPiper has a video showing how to make it. th-cam.com/video/bq0mOVw8cuY/w-d-xo.html
Looks very good. You made the right call not taking that rim any farther. Sometimes we let perfect become the enemy of good.
Thank You and I agree 💯
Tim you literally gave that pipe a new life. I am hard on my pipes but I’d never smoke one until it quit smoking. Yikes.
Unfortunately, it is fairly common. Or it might just be the price range of the pipes that I look to buy. Thanks for watching
You are too hard on yourself - you did great! Gave that bad boy new life. Great job!
Thank You. It smokes great. I appreciate you watching
