    I remember accompanying my uncle when I was in my early teens (70s) cutting down huge lumbers in Utwe, where the road besides new Elementary school...they were HUGE!!

      @aironkosrae Are you going to build traditional canoes? Nauru according to history built huge canoes holding up to 20 warriors when they went out to meet first foreign ships on the horizon.
      To this day nobody found out where they got their logs from!

      @@DanioBagadouwe Kosraeans historically relied on traditional canoes to travel from Lelu Island to their farms in the mountains, as there were no roads or other means of transportation. They would paddle to access their crops and fish in nearby waters, using canoes as essential tools for survival and daily life. In contemporary Kosrae, the tradition of building canoes has shifted to a recreational purpose, preserving the craft and celebrating the culture. Canoe racing has become a significant event during the annual Kosrae Liberation Day festivities, allowing locals to engage with their heritage and share it with others.
