Hi, I have just now seen your video for the Avid3 circuit bleed. It's definitely the best on TH-cam, explained step by step. Perfect! Thank you very much (👍 & ...I signed up ...)
I think I'll just buy a new bike
Buy new brakes

A great video! Clear, with all the relevant information. Thanks a lot!
Yay! Now I can go ride my bike again! Thank you
I have watched this video a few times and he does a great job explaining the process. I probably need to bleed one more set of brakes and I should have it down.
Bought an Epic bleed kit. Followed their instructions. Failed hard. Did it a 2nd time. Failed. Followed the halfords video, worked first time.
Awesome video, and it worked a treat. Only suggestion would be to explain what each step is doing so home mechanics understand why each step is important and can adjust or not when things dont go to plan. Well dkne good video i am certainly greatful for it.
thanks guys big help
! forgot the fluid is corrosive though so dont forget to wear gloves!
Motorcycle - easy
Car-medium
Bicycle-hard
buy hope brakes. easy. same as motobike
You have a lot of professionalism, I like that.

Thank you very much to produce this video. Final i can fix my old Avid Elixir hydrolic brakes Thank you so muck!
dude, it freakin worked. thank you. shout out from California...
tony p
thanks for the help now maybe i can finally get my bike brakes fixxed
Very well demonstrated. Thanks.
This looks more difficult than bleeding car brakes.
it is since there is no reservoir to hold fluid and stop air getting in,
I reverse bled my Shimano brakes, angled the syringe lever side up and removed the plunger and just pushed new fluid from the seconds syringe followed by tightening the bolts and they seem spot on
He was bleeding avids, shimano are way easier
One more thing to add. If you want a really stiff brake lever, you can fit the wheel but remove the brake pads. Add something thinner than the pads between the pistons and the disk and fill the system through the lever side. This way you add excess oil and the lever becomes stiffer.
If you have two different brake sets that use different dot fluids , can you wipe out the syringe and use the other fluid , or are the syringes dedicated to the dot type you used the first time ?
My compliments, thank you so much!
Only thing is , when u remove the hoses to put the screw back in, your putting air back into the system, there should be another lock screw to tighten first before you unscrew the hoses so no air is drawn in
Thank you very much It was very helpful my boy will be well happy
Will this method work on Hayes Stroker Ryde hydraulic breaks?
Mau bertanya ni..kalau handle rem nya avid elixir 5 rsl di gabungin dengan kaliper bawahnya shimano MT200 bisa apa tidak bro..??
From Indonesian..
Well explained. Thank you
I have SHIMANO hydraulic brakes from Volt Australia the top is like normal bleed but the bottom has no nipple ? it has a screw . does that mean i can use Avid bleed kit as the caliper only has a allen key port . The top is with screw in cup . I think it,s shop brand ? driving me nuts knewby ,so do i get the screw in line and adapter for caliper and will any fit ,or Avid ?
is the owner of this bicycle also a motorcycle rider, or is it a British thing to have the front brake on the right hand handlebar?
Cheers from Texas. Excellent video.
Where can i get one of those quick release thru axles
I bled my brakes today and I pulled out so much stuff. A quarter of a syringe of bubbles and very dark brake fluid that looked like motor oil. I think it was its first bleed since 2012
Wow he made that sound easy……I’m off for a lay down.
Thanks. works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I need your help my hydraulic disc rotor the back is not working bye press it it went funny 😄🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Can you re use your brakefluid if it seems clean?

1:10 sounded like "that's when you know you got it incorrectly" instead of "in correctly". I was a bit confused afterwards :D
2:45 NO NEED 4 THAT AS THE BUBBLES WILL GO AWAY.
PRESS ON ONE SYRINGE AND PULL ON THE OTHER.
My rear brake takes a little longer to bite than my front brake, is this normal??
Might need a bleed
hi how would i put a pair of fluids on my bike that havent got any?
Hi +FIREBURN HDV you would have to start by purchasing an hydraulic brake disc set. It's worth checking the compatibility between your bike and the hydraulic brakes. Your local store will be able to offer more detailed advice. Thanks.
I didn't know if I wanted mechanical or hydraulic disk brakes. But now I know:
Adjust mechanical disk brakes video 1:41
Adjust hydraulic disk brakes video 8:41
Guess which one I choose :)
Rim Brakes ^0^
Is that for any brake?
Took my helcat for its 12 month silver service which I paid for when I bought the bike. The bike was in the immaculate condition, hardly used. Breaks and gears worked fine. Collected the bike from the store the next day, gears are jumping and the rear break is fucked. I'll take it to someone who actually knows what they are doing with bikes.
hi, my avid xx world series calliper and lever aren't receiving this 5.1 dot fluid. I'm stressing out because this is my dad's bike and he is getting mad because I said I knew what I was doing (clearly not)
so I have followed till 4:04 but when I push the calliper syringe it won't budge. so I tried to push the fluid down from the lever syringe and its the same problem.
help plz.
Rochead123 m8 lol we’re the syringe clamps closed?
I bought hydraulic brake but I couldn't set it do you set up hydraulic brake?
go to a real bike shop
and if you're lever is slow to come back out after doing all this you need a new seal ring on the outside of the Piston in the lever .. I thought it was dirty fluid but no it was a damaged seal making friction in the lever making it slow .. but a new seal and (good as new)
Bleed my brakes today following this video only problem I had was my syringe kept pulling out and squirting it’s juice everywhere very messy wife wasn’t happy maybe if I get sram brakes this will work better as I have shimano and thought that we’re all the same with different names on should have made it clearer in video
I don't have all those things that you used is there an alternative
Tom Purcell asking a bike shop?
perfect ....
its a lot of pissin about ..may have to do mine but after watching this i ant gonna bother lol
What make and model is that bike?
Hi +Irish Machines its a Carrera Fury. The 2015 model is available here www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/mountain-bikes/carrera-fury-mountain-bike-2015 - hope this helps :-)
"If you would like a firmer reaction than that, please repeat the process from the beginning"
what you're supposed to do is before you fit the syringes is lock the red clamp and pull on the plunger to create a vacuum to cause any excess air to raise to the surface as most brakes only have about 10mm of fluid any air will make it feel "spongy" as air compresses and fluid doesn't although all avid brakes have a overflow system so they will never be truly solid as its a safety feature sram use to stop you stabbing yourself with the brake lever should you fall off and the lever hit you. hope this helps
Basically, the main reason the break would feel bad is because of any air in the system. So if the brake still felt spongy or if the brake was lacking power when in use, it means that air is in the system still. So if it felt like that straight after a bleed, you would simply need to repeat the bleed process again to get a better result. Doesn't often happen but can do, especially with avids as they are a bit trickier to bleed than other systems! Hope that helps!
Hey so I noticed your using a fury bike
How are they??
Would you recommend getting a fury bike?
No

how can you tell what fluid to use?
Hi +MrT0ffee there should be an identifier on the brake lever. Either Mineral Oil or Dot Fluid. Hope that helps. Thanks.
Didnt even degas the the fluid,,and the meth could have had a shave ahaha
man wit dem adidas
I have shimano mechanical disc brake bike two years old great at stopping pads easy to replace
Can you do this with non hydronic brakes? Just dics
no if they don't have hydraulics then they have a cable controlling the brakes aka no brake fluid
Would need to change the calipers and the cable to hygrolic ask a bike mechanic for more information
what's the use of bleeding?
New oil in your brake systems and a firm brake lever, you never want a brake lever to touch the handle bar or come 1/2 to 1 inch of the handle bar.
I did it twice on my bike, up to the last step my brake lever felt good. But after I put the lever screw back in and ride it, the lever goes soft and the bike won't stop. Any advice?
Zaher Jabr check out burping your brake, it might be that you have air trapped inside the system.
@@madched Add some Gripe water ;-)
what would happen I you got bubbles in the system?
I like the tire setup
Kiss your braking power goodbye
+M32 oh thanks
Think of it this way: The air in the system won't allow enough pressure to push the brake pistons together hard enough to effectively stop you. Any air is not good at all.
Knowledge 👆
Thing is you don't need a second syringe or the silly clamps.
Also you are meant to change the lever angle.
But it's nice of Halfords to demonstrate why you shouldn't use their services.
Park tool company also uses a second syringe and clamps
my dad died doing this
The problem is trying to keep pressure in the system, as soon as you remove the syringe.
It goes!
That's the issue I'm having with this exact brake setup now.
Don't forget to create a vacuum by gently pulling on the plunger and then push the plunger with similar force ,this will pressurise the system. Then start squeezing the brake lever whilst the syringe is in a vertical position. The video suggests 10 times, but basically do it until there are no more bubbles at all coming from the brake lever reservoir. Move the brake lever back to it's normal position and then unscrew the syringe and immediately and carefully replace the screw.
@@allthingsbike2720 sold it and bought a motorcycle in the end! XD
@@lmlm2500 well that has easily solved that one lol
How do you replace the oil
Very difficult doing this and looks expensive
Jeez it all fits in a #minutefix
I have avid elixir 1 brakes. Followed this video to the letter and now I have no brakes
Robert Jones is this real?
This an overcomplicated over expensive system by design.
So much easier to bleed brakes on a motorbike or car.
Motorbike has a reservoir for front and rear brake levers, simple.
Bike companies are just thinking of money.
у меня ничего не получилось, тормоза стали жёсткими хода почти нет
ever heard the saying keep it simple stupid? what's wrong with traditional bike brakes with rubber pads?
Richard, if you’d ridden a bike with hydraulic discs you’d know the answer. 👍
@@archiebob11 depends on the brakes. the mechanical Rim brakes on my orbea are more powerful than the hydraulic disc on my mountain bike
How to massively over complicate a system that was perfectly fine with cables. Wow what a faff.
Them dang Brits got the levers on the wrong side ;)
We like to mix things up... ;-)
it's their bike so they can do wat the want
True Ik but I need broke in Fornt for to be rear cos I broke it and they are disk breaks
that makes no sense. what about when you want to turn left
If you are on a big road with several lanes, the "right" or "left" make a huge difference. Believe me!:)
well i guess my cable disc brake is old now huh?
You dont have to do this do you i just want to get a bike and you know, enjoy the bike i dont want to have to bleed the brakes every once in a while.
+ameerali152 Get mechanical disc brakes. Avid BB7.
Way OTT, much easier way to do it!
Ufff
My friend got a carrera from Halfords, they set it up so that the handlebars are very loose, they didn't set up the suspension, the wheel could of fallen off, whatever you do don't purchase a bike from Halfords
You check it YOURSELF NUMBNUTS
..when you hear the click, you got it incorrectly:-))
lobby DVD
He omitted the final step; remove avid brakes, throw them in the bin and replace with decent shimano ones. They are a nightmare.
Now I f-Ing hate hydros
*ATTENTION!*
Make sure you use the right liquid on your brakes. I made the silly mistake of using Mineral Oil on my DOT brakes and now I need new brakes.
so that's how to bleed Avid brakes _(shakes head)_
must remember to specify *cable* operated...
Wouldn't trust Halfords to wash my bike nevermind do any maintenance on it......
Hardtail or FullSuspension?
I'd rather stick with mechanical... FFS bleeding car brakes is simpler... XD
No we don’t cassy!!!

Why the uninteresting but distracting muzak?
Avid brakes take too much work just to bleed them =p
I don't like brake fluid, I much rather mineral oil, it's just much superior.
Amarildo Junior what's the difference?
viscosity and stability to compression
@@Klemhaken mineral oil is , well, oil and DOT4/5.1 is Ethylene Glycol based.
The latter is used extensively in motor vehicles due to its availability, low cost , Low viscocity at low temperatures, good performance at higher temperatures, good compressive qualities and anti corrosive properties within braking systems.
Mineral Oil is used mainly because of its anti corrosive properties and easy availability. It's viscocity is usually slightly higher than DOT4/5.1 but in these "simple" systems it's not an issue. It's also much kinder to the environment (And your paintwork/hands) as oils can be made bio-degradeable. Whereas Etylene Glycol is poisonous to most forms of life but has a sweet taste and smell. It can also cause long term damage to water courses and wildlife and needs careful disposal. It's also not a thing you want to get on your skin or your paintwork either. Dangerous huh?
that’s a bloody waste of zip ties
removing the syringe at the end of the arm pressure on the syringe plunger is in you
No way i can do this
Bubbles😂😂
Kinda sad how that frame has that fork xD
Shows what you know
@@allthingsbike2720 that was a while ago i didnt know what i was talking about
maybe I don't know what I'm talking about now 🤔🤣
These types of brakes are a joke. And the worst part is - you need to buy these really overpriced bleeding kits separately from your brakes (and often they will be out of stock in many places).
Of course you CAN actually bleed without the threaded adapters using just the syringe and pressing it tightly into bleed hole, but it's really messy and not as reliable.
but i have a mineral oil brake
word of advice never buy from halfords
Stick with my shimano mechanical disc brakes
shimano brakes are so much easier to bleed
Damn this sounds weird,"BLEEDING BREAKS"😆😆.
Avid suck, just buy shimano
