I Rode Every Double Black Trail At Sun Peaks Bike Park

- We are BACK into riding some hard trails for 2020, and Sun Peaks Bike Park has some doozies. I had one day left to try and ride every double black trail in the park, and luckily only one was shut. Featuring Insantiy One, Sticky One, Honey Drop, Creeper and Gnarboom - I got a fair amount of them ticked off! Well...there may have been some dabs.....but maybe there weren't any....zero dabs.

Are you having a good day? I very much hope so!
Paul The Punter be sweet to ride here one day. Love your videos
having a great day. just got back on the bike from a broken elbow
You ever ride silver mountain here in Idaho??? Blues are Canadian blacks and silvers black lines are almost as intense as a canadian double black... reason I say this, there is no place to bail!!!! You either send it or wreck it!
Sure have!
Other than my gf breaking up with yeah really good
Paul asking kids if it’s in their skill set before they drop him 😂
😅
business decisions...CYA!
appreciate the honesty. there is no shame in living to ride another day. is crucial to a long and healthy life. thanks for the content.
👌
Great trip! Glad you enjoyed my $1000 steeps clinic this week.
So splendid.
Nic my guy, what the heck was that outfit?
When something actually looks steep on a gopro means it is SUPER STEEP!!
Sure is!
Sun peaks is like a mini whistler. I think in a few years it will be much bigger
Trails are awesome up there.
I’m going to sun peaks tomorrow!!
First "Paul the Punter" video of 2020 where Paul actually punted on features...
Great riding, and excited to see you slay these features in the future :)
Fingers crossed!
I’m really glad the kids got to ride with you ☺️ it stinks when you want to say yes but, you have deadlines to meet and have to say no
Awesome video mate, they looked steep even with the go pro effect 😂
Haha for sure!
Love the honesty in your videos! "My brain just said no, that's how it went" --> everyone can relate to that :)
Awesome video! Knowing your limits allows you to live to ride another day! Nice riding dude, I wouldn't touch half of those trails!
You got that right!
One of the reasons I like this channel is the total honesty you have when approach this stuff. You can so clearly hear your satisfaction with nailing that last trail.
Thanks my dude 👌
I reckon it takes a lot more nerve to stand up and show that you're not nailing everything. The camera does tend to flatten the trails, but these were damned steep even before accounting for that.
Sun peaks is by far my favorite park and Insanity one is my favorite trail!
Niceeeee
"Self employed business decision" = Must be able to ride another day soon as the bills don't pay themselves. Good call
I laughed at the 'Dramatic reenactment' 2 times as I checked out this video twice
EDIT:-
Last week I was checking out 'The Loam Ranger' and his 360degree video (from 2 years agou) over on VeeR through Oculus rift. Ever since, I now see normal videos (like this) and my mind now understand how bloody steep some of these runs are.
PS, third time going through this video.
Well said!
great vid paul nice to see the bike parks finally back open
It’s great!
Hero for going back and riding with the little rippers!
Really enjoyed this one! Nice riding man :)
Thanks a ton!
Love the channel dude. I'm a bike newbie so seeing your bottle stuff is really encouraging 🙂👍
People need to know that knowing when to call it is a good thing... Keep up the good work 😁
Cheers Shorty!
“YES!” I love that friggin’ feeling. Way to get your confidence back!
👌
So glad bike park videos are back!!!🍍
Here they are!
Been following the channel for a while now. Live in the Channel Islands, and currently a line with some roots and rocks really testing me and unable to complete...yet. By showing the gradual progression, and your ability as a rider improving endears the audience. I'd much rather sit and listen to this content than someone saying everything's easy and comming off a 🛎🔚. Cheers as ever Paul, great content.
Thanks Kevin - you'll get that line!
Trails were so good!!! I even rocked them in my hardtail!!! Great content Paul!
Another video making me want to move to Canada
Better go then!
Way to overcome your fear! Crashing isn't fun and knowing your limits is self-preservation, but, knowing that you might lose control and crash and still going for it feels so good when you make it through. Your bike handling has definitely improved over the last year. Believe in yourself!
Thanks Mark!
Love the video 👍 Sun peaks is my home Resort
excellent timing, just booked a couple days there July 18-21. (grabs some popcorn)
Hope you enjoy it!
Dude. My Dad is 65 years old and is making you look extremely average!? lol. Check out Andy and Jo MTB. The 3 vids he made are in real time / Gopro. Ill repeat, he's 65.
Love seeing your progression. Inspiring dude
Excellent video, good narrative and story line 👍🚵♂️
Glad you enjoyed it
glad i wasn't the only one but apparently i was the only one that understood that you can't always just have a train with guys you've never met...
In some cases it's a bit of a different situation when you have a camera.
When it gets too steep you’re supposed to throw your bike down the hill and run after it. I saw that in a YT video somewhere. 🤘🙃
Hahahahahahahahaha 10 pineapples.
Great to see that there is no shame in not doing a feature if you aren't feeling it :) Some of these looked steep even with gopro effect!
strenght is 2 know ur weakness, thx for sharing.. ;)
You could say steep AF, lol
Haha yup
waiting for that #ZERODABS shirt campaign....
*i'm totally copying this video format...makes pov watchable... plus, who doesn't love that englishman's voice...
Haha it's pretty much what the viewers want from this. Also I would love to do a tshirt campaign on that, just trying to figure it out!
Those gnarley, steep rock gardens scare the crap out of me. Very cool to see you overcome your fear and just go for it.
Cheers William!
My local trails contain of 100m of elevations of non mountain bike compatible dirt rots and stairs. Fml
You can make a mountain out of a mole hill.
@@PaulThePunter true
you shoud come to wales in the uk and ride the bike parks here as i dont think you have been to them i would highly recomend bike park wales.
Maybe in the winter!
I live in sun peaks and today I finally rode full honey without walking so steep
Some of the more tech trails look like an enduro bike would be a much better option.
Dan assured me he wish he had a DH bike haha
Oh man, that’s some sketchy, steep-ass-shit there 💩
Pucker up, butter cup
I know just how steep Honey Drop is, I had a monster OTB there about 10 years ago. After tomahawking through a section I managed to catch a tree and stop myself. I'm pretty sure I got it all on my Contour (potato) camera. Too bad Sweet One was closed- that trail is all time!
Kamloops and Sun Peaks are my favorite places to ride......do yourself a favor and talk with some locals. Or, just go hang out at the bottom of Harper Mt and you'll meet a local who will tell you about even more sick trails. I'm stuck South of the border, otherwise, I'd be right there!!!! Skal!
Yup I’ve been there!
Not pushing your limits in the time of global pandemic is perfectly reasonable.
We're not doing too bad over in BC!
@@PaulThePunter That sounds pretty nice. Friday we had the second highest number of new infections since this whole thing started.
Damn the GoPro effect in this video is off the charts
PEOPLE THAT CARE ABOUT THE NUMBER OF DABS evar: .00000000000001% NOICE! Thanks for posting, you're the one!
😂
Paul...wtf youtube. everyone watch this video as much as you can
Thanks Barrie, it's been fixed now!
Beauty bud
Paul - you're on a triple crown there. Did you find it more difficult to ride tight tech stuff with the longer downhill wheelbase? (I'm thinking of the stuff around 4:55 in the video - give or take)
Good job Paul! I know the GoPro effect was turned up to 11 on this one. The trees on the trail looked like they were growing almost parallel to the mountainside. That's when you know shit is steep.
Yeah it's a really steep place for sure!
Great video Paul.
Thanks 👍
Honey drop looks well nasty steep and well done on the last bit.
Sure is! Thanks chap.
Paul The Punter there is a significant improvement in your riding from earlier videos.
Gotta love the gopro effect on honey drop. Probably on of the funnest and steepest trails I've ever ridden.
I gotta get it next time!
Bruh i wish i could ride my local trailsssssss but i cantttttt reeee
soon my sheep.
I wish I had local trails 😭
Way to go Paul! So glad to see that your genuine. Thanks for clearing the air! Great video and man you are truly blessed to be able to live the life your living! Cheers mate
I appreciate that!
Is this the video that got reported? And for what? 🤔😳😳
For being dangerous....I dunno. It's been fixed now! Thanks for the support.
And The Red Bull Crankworx videos aren’t dangerous? 🤔🤔😅😂🤣
Paul is such a sound guy letting those kids go riding with him
👌
Yeah boooi. Love the depiction what goes through my mind too. And how you navigate through things.
Cheers!
Do you go for the Freeza rotors with the Saint brakes?
Nope because my rotors aren't centerlock on this wheelset.
Paul The Punter Cheers. Just building up a hardtail. Probably going for Zee 4pot. Hadn’t realised they weren’t available in 6bolt. What’s your go to rotor please?
Did Paul just gesticulate what I thought he did to those lads 😂😂😂 (probably more applicable to 🇬🇧 viewers)
This video reminds me of last bike park season. Great job!
It's starting again :)
Get Remi and Jesse to join you in Sun Peaks and practice your line choice!
Anyone know what wheels he is running on the gambler?
Yes
Syncros!
I ride honey drop all the time and it still scares me to drop in
Haha nice one
Good man Paul!
Cheers Joe
I love the new style. These self-challenges and experiments are so interesting.
Cheers!
If only we could see how steep it is 😢👍
Better go there I guess!
Awesome!
Thank you! Cheers!
Are you going to keep the mullet setup for a while? I've wanted to try it out, but I'm afraid of changing my CG
No idea what CG could stand for, but yeah the mullet is the dream on the dh bike.
@@PaulThePunter Sorry, center of gravity
Punt that like button😀
Haha yeah!
Sun Peaks is rad. The thing that makes stuff like Honey Drop hard is you need speed/momentum on the scary parts, you can't creep into off camber turns or those gully/rut style steep turns... but committing and carrying momentum is scary AF!
I honestly think Honey Drop is harder than any Whistler double black (besides the option lines on Goat's Gully). The Whistler double black tech trails are not steep (other than a few rock rolls). They purposefully don't build them steep because they will be eroded immediately, kind of a shame.
Are those Micheline dh 22 if so could u do a review
Here’s my review - they are good.
Paul The Punter cheers 🤙
That is proper steep 🤯
Sure is!
Well they DO look like gnarly trails. Deffinitely something to slowly build courage on. Not surprised some parts un nerved you. And that was viewing thru the gopro effect. Nice ride. 👍🦘
Great video- thanks for sharing! As someone looking to get into riding trails/at parks like this, I am not sure what brand of bike to get, especially on a budget of around $1000. Would you have any recommendations?
I have ridden there 3 times I love it I can wait to ride it dry I have to to ride it not pouring rain insanity one destroyed me to me its the hardest on the hill mind you thats also wet
It’s such a good place, dries up well too.
@@PaulThePunter im hoping to make the pilgrimage soon so much rain i haven't ridden in a month up here
I think my Norco Range C3 Carbon Enduro named the Killer Bee could do these trails I’ll see tomorrow!
How did you do?
Paul you're a much better rider than me, and to here your honesty and mind set somehow gives me confidence to push myself! Awesome vid! Thanks for telling it like it is and being humble.
What a great video Paul, this is one of your best
Thanks!
Fair play. This is all about brakes and grip. With good brakes and good tyres everything seems possible. You need balls too of course.
Coming up to the "steep" section you can see how steep it is by the trees vs the cleared ski area. Steep.
those kids are good
Sure were!
In the next sun peaks video you should do the easiest to hardest jump trails.
Well there’s only 2 😂
@@PaulThePunter Oh HA
Kinda seem something like that on a hill near my house it's called prospect hill I rode down what turned out to be a black with a few tight switchbacks on a entry level mtb I might add dabbed once
I imagine this would be twice as steep as that.
@@PaulThePunter not wrong there
Did he exclude almost every jump from video, or those trails really dont have jumps?
There’s no jumps, it’s all just very very steep.
Great job on sketchy steeps. Have faith in your bike and yourself and all is sweet. Cheers and keep it rubber side down 👍
7:28 that looks like the rock roll on Red Bull hardline
Maybe!
What brakes do you currently use?
Sun Peaks is my favorite!
They really have put a lot into the park the past couple years
Very impressive, can't wait to go back.
Yes Paul!!!!!!! At least you aren't $1000 poorer this week haha!
Haha I know right!
I accidentally rode smitty steeps last year. It was my first year mountain biking
Fun
even on camera some of that stuff looked SUPER steep.
I feel lucky to have rode honeydrop when it was loam and approximately 5 feet above where it is now.
when is the whistler video coming?
No Whistler video, Talked about it on this live stream: th-cam.com/video/qIEa30gNL8Q/w-d-xo.html
@@PaulThePunter ok cool thanks
7:20 the fact that theres a tree there and where you start is basically the top of the tree takes the GoPro effect away lmao it looks like a 50 foot drop in less than 20 feet.
Con este código de wish les regaló desde el 30% hasta el 80% de descuento en sus comprás "CDGTZFFL" me ayudarían bastante si lo utilizan, Gracias
sugar and sweet one were epic classics. I remember there was this massive teeter totter ladder on it like 6ft high.
Well done on catching up with the kid. Made me smile big time. And holy crap he just drops in with no fear!
Sure did!
I subscribe to your channel because u give an honest view about the rides and experience u went thru.
Very cool DoubleBlack Trails! Looks very funny🤘🏻
