Star Citizen is an open development, crowd funded project from Cloud Imperium. Consisting of 2 games, Squadron 42 a single player, story driven campaign putting you in the middle of the Vanduul attacks as an up and coming UEE Navy pilot, and Star Citizen, a highly detailed
first person MMO set within a persistent universe where there are no limits. This includes, space, and ground aspects, massive spaceships with full interiors and interactions, a full dynamic economy which reacts to the players actions allowing for anything you can imagine.
It is all being built on the StarEngine (a modified version of Amazon's Lumberyard Engine).
Please bare in mind that this is heavily WIP and in an alpha state in which much of the foundational tech to make it a reality is still being developed. Both games do not have set release dates yet but you can play the alpha build for the PU MMO which makes consistent progress
with quarterly patch releases throughout the year.
I am an independent content creator and a fan of the game, I am not paid by Cloud Imperium however I do accept ships from them to giveaway to my community but this will by no means influence my opinion or what I say and believe about the project.

That test was fun, I was at NB, we were about 400 players on the server, and the shard had 1815 players at its maximum from what I have seen, perhaps it went higher.
With such numbers, the ASOP and elevators just died after a few minutes, and some other stuff slowed down to a crawl.
I had witnessed 4 30ks and all were recovered successfully, and the last 30k was manually initiated by the devs who restarted servers to hot patch stuff
considering even with the better 1000 players I do wonder why they tested 2k, but its likely a good thing to once again try to break everything to see what they need to improve next.
@@yulfine1688 They started noticing some hybrid crashes and performance issues so held it at 2k. I know they would have pushed it Beyond 2,000 ... after the fixes they work up from these tests - be prepared for some Huge tests.. They wil dial it back to more reasonable numbers for longer term looks at server degradation.. etc. but they are also going to crank this baby up to the moon and beyond to stress test the tech. 2k is still like test 6 - baby steps.. Lets go CIG
It's just the background services not being able to keep up; if they fix the load balancing for that, 10:2000 will go very smoothly, and perhaps even something along the lines of 20:5000
@@yulfine1688 They wanted numbers, It was an extreme stress test, most likely to reveal the upper limits of their current systems and optimisations.
I saw 1999 at one point and 452 per server
500 players run like smooth butter, constant 30fps server anywhere i was at the time.
it went to hell. Just tried it. Barely 100 players in shard and worse than 3.24 PTU
Im Guessing you jumped in when they did the 2000 player test.@@lordanubis5965
Keep in mind that the servers were basically bare bones so performance is better because there is less work for the servers.
Ur on meth if u think 30fps is smooth as butter
Yeah, missions and other aspects were turned off... so of course performance will be decent.
Things are looking good, can't wait for 4.0 and server meshing...thanks for the update.
Thanks for the update, Mac! I love hearing when CIGs testing goes well. Lets hope this trend continues.
This is my favorite update channel. Thanks for all you do.
This and SpaceTomato are just good channels for SC updates
If they get .2 live this weekend and 4.0 in PTU before next weekend I will be actually be amazed
nah
2000 players leaving water bottles right in front of the shops in space stations will surely be a nice issue 😅
OH FOR...
I never thought of that.
Be tripping over med gowns all the time too.
2000 players is crazy 🤩
I wish they would just fix what they have. Hopped on today after the first time in about 2 years and still couldn’t even finish a simple delivery mission because 3 of the 10 boxes were bugged. Hopefully these devs will be smart enough sometime soon and fix the little things like that before adding more.
0n my server we saw very steady performance up to about 850 players, and at one point we were 13 players inside an elevator at the same time at Area18 without any type of problems (if you know, then you know..). after this point we saw some desync as a lot of players logged in at the same time. desync graduately went away as player number increased and the number of people loggin in pr second got lower. at about 1500 players we saw game glitches become a lot more frequent, and server crashed out with 30K at around 1600 players.
But thing is that at 850 players, the servers were so stable and nice, we saw a lot better performance than on live servers, with stable 65 server fps for prolonged periods at the highest.
It was certainly an interesting test. 4.0 certainly won't have 2k players when it goes live, but it's good to see they're really stressing things this hard already.
no I don't think it'll have 1000 but they seem very set on 1000 players so.. who knows
Yep, the fact that they were able to push it so high. This time, compared to the last test is really good sign. They've gotten a lot of work done on. I think the whole point of pushing it 2k was to see what they needed to do to get that thousand marker obtainable for Evo 4.0
The only way to see what's needed. For a thousand players, is to push it past a thousand and see what breaks.
@LuluGamingDK I think they are just so excited about that tech that they are pushing it to the limits more and more now that they have the chance. But, as Benoit said in the last postmortem, they are not aiming for player count for 4.0. I expect that for the start of the 4.0 release, shards can have a count of up to 500 players or less, depending on how the servers will degrade in later, longer tests. I would rather have stable shards in the long term than higher player count, for the start.
Great news. Personally, I feel 500 players is a good amount to keep traffic jams at asop and elevators from being a thing. Once we have more systems, then grow to larger player counts to account for the dilution afforded by the extra space.
Yes, plus the refactor of ATC (hangars) and transit (trains and elevators) which is on their books. ATC in particular is a real legacy system dating back to the Port Olisar days where there weren't even any hangars. Someone asked me why they haven't done it yet. My guess is they want to see how many players they need to cater for before they do anything about it.
Don't forget to account for the 9 npc to 1 player goal using that space in regards to what the infrastructure (terminals, elevators, hangers, etc) can handle.
The major reason for the backups at the ATC and ASOP terminals has to do with everybody coming into the server at once. After they are in for a while, it normalizes to a steady busyness.
This is a bad take for a game that’s supposed to be an mmo
@ryeaye2278 I see it differently. People arrive at SC thinking they'll find a traditional MMO experience in which things aren't physicalized. To me, SC is a new creature, and it has to put in place rules and procedures that are custom to it. It needs to think outside the box for these solutions to an environment that doesn't offer fast travel, teleportation, and magical spawn points.
Absolutely nailed it sir, this is an awesome time to be a backer, seeing the leaps forward in progress 💪. Also, great to hear the progression to dynamic server meshing will be incremental instead of a sudden flip of the switch, so to say. Citizen on set aside, the gym is real seeing this progress.
Great and exciting times to be playin Star Citizen :)
It was crashy, however more players make the bottlenecks pretty obvious. The actual hotel struggles to spawn people and the elevators are a mess in Starports and Hangars struggle to fulfill so much demand.
I'm jumping back in once this build goes live. Excited to get my Zeus CL and figure out how the new cargo hauling loop!
I was playing with 400 on the shard on an 800 maximum. Was running really well.
I got on late US eveining and there were only about 150 - 180 players on and it was smooth as butter! A few times the frames would drop on my client, but then recover above 30-40fps. It was fun.
As far as I understood it, the problem was not the total amount of players on the shard, but the number of players on each DGS. NB had more than 400 players on one server and it was choking, Area 18 was almost as much populated experiencing large action delays and even Hurston which was around 300 people had troubles. There were players that bed logged on some moons with their own DGS, they experienced few problems.
Glad to see actual testing with the player base. The players are ready and waiting to do actual testing as long as they get the feedback that bug reports actually amount to real improvements rather than be ignored and pushed back for years.
Technically all SC players are people who paid for the privilege of being an intern in CIG's QA department. 😆 The more you pay, the more work they dump on you.
Squadron 42 might be the most optimised game ever. Can’t wait to see it in all its ray-traced glory!
I saw on Twitter someone posted a screenshot of 1999/2000
They may even get things updated over the weekend, since staff at CIG are putting the work in.
I saw player count hit 1800+ during the test / but had a lot of CTDs and very long loading in times.
I must be alone since I don’t share the same positivity that surrounds 3.24.
Every time I log off the game, I tell myself it will be the last time I play.
Not once have I managed to play without a showstopper.
For example, no ships in persistent hangers for two weeks, lifts to hangers dead, no salvage mission markers, losing cargo randomly in hauling; the list is endless.
Now with a fuel price bug, the promise of better games around the corner is not matched by reality.
Am I alone in concluding that the game is almost unplayable,or is my experience an isolated, unlucky one?
if one has issues with the game after a new patch it is recommended to delete cache file and I believe.. the user? folder... and use character repair. If none of those work then a reinstallation will be in order :) hope it helps
@@mopojopo2lol
@@mopojopo2 thank you, will try your suggestions
I know this may seem small to most, but I really would love to be able to toggle the HUD on and off in first person. The immersion of this game is nearly unparalleled, so being able to have an immersive view from first person would be much appreciated.
It really sounds like CIG plans to roll out 4.0 with at least a 1,000 player count at minimum but is seeing just how much they can push things to see if they'd be able to get another 200-1,000 for its release. Each time a player server cap has increased, it's been about 2-4x the previous jump, so going from ~100 player cap to 1,000 to 2,000 will be the largest leap to date. I do expect a server wipe from 4.0 coming, of everything, but think that might be one of the last times before SC 1.0 is released. Only time will tell what CIG will do though.
ollie got on with 1850 player on the shard but he had 400 players in Microtech server . which may be why he couldnt get out the hanger or call a ship LOL Impressive
They can't keep pushing too high; still the fundamental issue of the possibility of any one server in the shard having to handle a 400+ player load and getting crippled by the load (one of the big issues at the start of tests). That said, once Pyro comes along, the server count will have to bloat, as Pyro is 3x the size of Stanton, so there will be more servers per shard, and probably a high cap. It still won't solve the issue of single server overload, but is an interesting future to consider; 12-16 server shards? Sounds expensive, and without a high enough player count and engagement, not sustainable.
Which is the reason for dynamic server meshing.
so they will make 3.24.2 Live with issues when they have still not fixed the cargo issues with 3.24.1, how many weeks has that been broken? and why are you CCs not raising this issue, players have no voice because with the Issue Council just archives everything they don't like
hopefully the issues are going to be fixed in the 4.0 codebase but prob not
@@G0DKILLER_ Cargo was the hyped new gameplay loop and it is seriously broken and all CIG care about is server meshing? IMO to declare goals at Citcon and get people spending more money, I have lost faith
Eagerly awaiting missions. I feel like those are going to introduce a lot of problems. But if they get it working, I'll be playing this game a lot for a while.
Chris roberts needs to built himself an indestructable base somewhere in the verse
Good to hear!
@SuperMacBrother. is it just at my end(using headphones) there is a desync or echo between left/right audio?
It was at my end. :O
Vulkan and dx11 crashes need to be fixed. The frame rates also are so bad right now but I assume the servers will improve
Framerates aren't that bad for me,
that's not quite a simple task and that's only a small portion of the issue a lot of it is server side and the way the game basically loads everything in once you're in, not having loading screens etc outside of entering the game puts a lot more stress on the system
When we live? I wanna see your panel interpretations
I can see it going live today. It's the last chance to get weekend data before citcon. Going live next week doesn't get them much
I think 4.0 will launch with at least 1000-player shards over the two systems.
As always a great video!
I just want what they do have optimized.
Perfect timing.
Okay, but is there still master modes?
6*800 was really smooth.
I had a feeling from the very beginning that they were going to have to do 6-8 servers, especially in the beginning, when there's a lot of players.
I want 2000+ with a mob at cities, haha
I really hope CIG will pull this out... Also, I do expect them to sneak something not mentioned when 4.0 comes to live, at least, I think we deserved it...
Nix.
As always, notification comes in from yt, I go in and give thumbs up. I need to write some sort of script for that😅
If they broke the elevators and ASOP terminals, they broke nothing that wasn't broken already. Both of those have been rather dysfunctional in 3.24. Terminals at clinics for the check-ins have been terrible too. Wish that will all get some attention. Alpha is one thing, just looking for bugs and doing little-to-nothing about it is kind of pointless.
They at least made it to 1999, reddit screenshot showed it off.
Stop me if you've heard this one before😂
Hype is real until reality same has every year
6 hours prior you already made this comment, but in perfect English. Did you forget proper grammar and sentence structure in 6 hours?
Tbh, there's not much to talk about citcon.
1. They will reveal a bunch of new ships (some of them straight to flyable).
2. They will show some dev demo stuff for base building (which will not come out in 2025).
3. They will show some renders of Nyx (which will not come in 2025, good if they can make Pyro stable and playable during 2025).
4. They will talk about SQ42 (which will be likely released in 2025).
Thats great to hear on those numbers, but i'll be truly impressed when they finally get off their cans to allow us all access to Pyro and other systems..
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👀👀👀👀👀❤️❤️❤️❤️
The hype is real every year but is soon replaced with reality
I want war.

Tobii Eye Tracker 5 50% off sale when? I'm poor and it's too expensive. I'll buy it when it's 50% off. 😊
Easy solution...get a second job.
All these clowns freaking out AGAIN about something that was just a bug.
They never learn and I completely lost my respect for 99% of the SC content creators.
Its not accidental. CIG stated Days ago that the fuel prices was a bug and a fix was coming later in the week and Most of these guys were aware - But if i have a TH-cam channel and i say 'CIG said they will fix it later in the week' -- my views and my number of comments in the comment section will be at 1 level. / If i say 'this is outrageous - the missions dont pay enough to cover the cost of fuel ..WHAT ARE THEY DOING?!?!?!?' -- my views will be Much higher - the crying in the comment sections will scroll for days and my total revenue from that video will be huge compared to if i just stated the fuel prices are a bug. Rinse & Repeat

They are all getting cancer and mutating into whiner channels.
@@lights4bre890 Exactly, it is all about clickbait, views and money.
it doesn't work with 1,000 why would they do 2,000?
At the moment SC is a mess. Just played 5 hours and earnest zero money. I can't imagine anyone giving money for this garbage.
Why not? You did.
