    This guy really knows his stuff.. I’d listen to this and recommend this video to anyone wanting to purchase a good Subaru! Turbo Subaru’s is a whole diff ballpark than moms ole 96 Non-Turbo Wagon that’s pushing 300,000 miles! These cars drink more oil than gas!

    This is very helpful, thank you for sharing this. I've been compiling a list of what to look for when going to check out a used STi as I've currently been looking at a few 2004's. Now I've got even more knowledge to add to it. I'm quite pleased that I stumbled across this channel. Patiently waiting for "Part 2"
    Keep up the great work!

      @@svtwrc thanks for the response. Looks like Cobb intake and downpipe with an apexi N1 evo R and a Cobb tune. Car is in good shape for age and mileage (157k). Previous owner said it would throw a code (cylinder 1 misfire) on occasion and swapped spark plugs and coil pack but still would come up (4x in a few years) I’m hoping it’s dirty injectors or a fuel filter. Immediate plans are new shocks as the ones on the car are worn and diff fluid changes. Besides that rips pretty good. It’s my first manual transmission car so just getting the hang of driving it

      @@svtwrc any recs? Timing belt and water pump done and valve cover gaskets were done. Didn’t do a compression or leak down 😅

    • @svtwrc
      @svtwrc  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jordan Ross nice it sounds like the right parts for the Tune Stage 2 with the downpipe. Mine is Cobb intake Turbo XS turboback wCobb stage 2 . Try cleaning the air filter and cleaning the MAF sensor on the intake these are cleanable with CRC MAF cleaner. A little fuel injector cleaner will help don’t use too much it messes with 02 sensors and cats. Use half or a quarter of what the bottle says and there is Subaru fuel injector cleaner and it’s great. You can try to see if the plug is gapped wrong next time your in there.

    Hey man, is that red thing the unequal length headers? or is that system undernearth that gives the car it's awesome sound?

    • @svtwrc
      @svtwrc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tony Quigley hi , the red part in the middle is a intake manifold . The awesome sound comes from the header that starts the exhaust stream under the motor.

    What problems/stuff should I look for in a 2004 STi that's been garaged most of its life, has only 33,000 miles, and never been raced?

    • @svtwrc
      @svtwrc  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi that's a low mileage 04. If stock you may want to check the fuel lines under the intake , known to wear with age even if you didn't drive it. If it's really modded out I would want to know why it's not driven often .

    Really need help. I’m about to purchase a 2004 Subaru wrx sti with 197k miles. Engine was rebuilt 80k ago and has: Cobb access port and bunch of other goods. It has a new stage 3 clutch. Only issue is it needs a new turbo which is fine. It’s selling for 6500 due to it being salvaged.

    • @subarubuildz1738
      @subarubuildz1738 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Forgot to mention it’s pushing 327hp on dyo and runs on e85

    • @svtwrc
      @svtwrc  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Subarubuildz that’s a built car , good price if everything works even with a bad turbo. Make sure the timing belt was done . Salvage titles are different for each state be careful and check the local laws for resale or you end up with something you can’t get rid of in case your buying out of state.

    • @subarubuildz1738
      @subarubuildz1738 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What should I look out for in built wrx?

    • @svtwrc
      @svtwrc  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Subarubuildz honestly I like to stay away from big build I like to build them up from stock so you know exactly what your dealing with. Built motors can be on the ragged edge more than a lightly modded motor with good engine management . Is this going to be a daily driver or a project you can drive something else while you fiddle with issues on the WRX

    • @subarubuildz1738
      @subarubuildz1738 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      But can I downgrade the built motor like run less boost? And yea it’s going to be a daily driver. I’m not too worried about reliability because I have a Outback as a back up plan.

  • @SonnyVA
    @SonnyVA 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    hey what access port is that?

    • @svtwrc
      @svtwrc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sonny hi Sonny ,that is V2 Cobb AP I purchased in 2009 for the 2.5 WRX 2006 . The Accessport for the 2.5l WRX works for the 2004 STi too. You can also read codes from other Subaru’s with the AP ,just can’t read all the datalog data and can’t flash a WRX with an STi tune.
