Vyvyan stayed with STV until 1987 following her departure from TVS and was seen for many years as a newsreader on Scotland Today and reporter on the ‘Report’ programme - she lived in Edinburgh and commuted to STV’s main GLASGOW studio (Or Edinburgh satellite) as required. She will be retired by now.
such a great shame what happened to the apt and then later to british rail, they really were getting there and their journey was cut short. a bigger insult was the foreign tilt system imports after privatisation
Oo! Vyvyan Mackeson! Whatever happened to her? I remember her presenting the TVS South East Coast to Coast News in 82 and then she seemed to disappear never to be seen again!
It was more or less reliable by 1984 and had British Rail decided to build an entire fleet, this would have lasted for 20 years or more. Even at 125 mph, the APT would have reduced Carlisle to London journey times to 3 hours.

British Rail wanted to electrify the ECML, so this was classed as a bigger priority and the APT was given a quiet burial the following year.
If the british rail didn't quickly put the train into service instead of still developing it, it would be in service until now.
Chris Green......last of the old skool.
Br dong at central , when did that stop?
Apt is better than the pendolino.
Best of british 😊
The APT should have been given another chance in 1984 The Class 91 that evolved from Apt i have always thought of as quite boring.
