    It’s hilarious to me that people think bodybuilders aren’t strong, and call it “show muscle”. They worry about keeping a super low body fat % so strongen have a slight edge, but they are ridiculously strong also

    • @oglocbaby520
      @oglocbaby520 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Pro level bodybuilders have a lot of things going against them. They have a lot of muscle and strength for sure, but often train in a manner where they are isolating muscles, using short ranges of motion, etc. They basically aren't training the body as a unit, though this could be easily remedied. Training with short ROM and using a lot of machines can also cause problems with mobility, flexibility, etc. This could be so bad where they may struggle to get into the rack position on a clean and press or align properly for the more awkward lifts. They would also have terrible conditioning and would really struggle with the athletic/mobile events, a lot of the drugs bodybuilders use are horrendous for aerobic conditioning, tren is a great example. Something else is these bodybuilders are often quite short, again another issue with strongman where height is an advantage.
      Though he isn't a bodybuilder, Brian Siders was a top powerlifter from back in the 2000s who competed in strongman. He did pretty well at the Arnold Strongman, which was overwhelmingly heavy static events, but did incredibly poorly at the 2008 WSM in his qualifying round. Being gym strong definitely gives you a solid foundation and naturally is great for deadlifts, squats and overhead press. However, the other events require a great deal of overall athleticism and have very different requirements. Phil Pfister was someone who wasn't all that strong in the gym lifts but was incredible at the strongman events.

    • @bourneslippy8039
      @bourneslippy8039 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@oglocbaby520 so these guys aren’t strong? Doth protest too much, methinks. I get what you’re saying, but the difference is negligible unless you’re talking about pro competition. To the average person there’s not much difference between 450# bench and 500#, they are both ridiculously strong.

    • @oglocbaby520
      @oglocbaby520 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bourneslippy8039 Do you realize there's a huge difference between gym training and strongman? What I mean by that is there are guys who are solid at static powerlifting, I used Brian Siders as a great example, that struggle with the strongman implements, mobile events, etc. Just because you bench press a lot does not mean it will have much carryover to anything other than the overhead lifts. Same goes for squats and deadlifts. Phil Pfister was honestly relatively weak in deadlifts compared to his peers but was incredible with your typical strongman movements.
      Strongman is basically about being very strong overall but also being very athletic, having a lot of conditioning, etc. Height is also a huge advantage, there's a reason why virtually all of the top athletes are 6' and more often than not well over this. Most of these famous bodybuilders and fitness influencers are way shorter than you probably realize, well under 6' tall.

    • @bourneslippy8039

      @@oglocbaby520 jesus dude noone was talking about strongman and I used the bench press as an arbitrary example, use deadlift or something if that helps. If you want to talk about strongman, why does Mitch Hooper use these lifts to form his opinion on whether someone would be a good competitor for WSM? Relax, you haven’t said anything that disagrees with my original comment.

    • @oglocbaby520
      @oglocbaby520 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@bourneslippy8039 You said strongmen have a "slight edge", which is completely untrue. Ronnie Coleman was significantly stronger than his peers and not a representation of the typical IFBB pro. The point I was getting at is these pro bodybuilders are often in terrible overall shape and while they may be gym strong it wouldn't translate outside of this very well. Whether you like it or not, these bodybuilders are essentially functionally obese. Calum Von Moger had some achilles tear from trying a rock wall or something like that a while ago.
      Again, a huge part of this is due to the drugs they are taking and the fact that they often train muscles in isolation, have terrible mobility, etc.

His squat was marginally short of full depth and his shoulder press was not locked out to keep tension on the shoulder rather than the tricep (as I mentioned at the start of the video, they trained for different sports). You seem to fail to account for the fact that all of Mariusz lifts are claims e.g they are not of video so cannot be accurately judged. Many people doubt his claims of a 290kg bench and we don’t no if the squat was performed raw or equipped. So I feel compelled to comment on the leg press as ronnie should take an honest and easy win (thou personally don't know about straps so someone else can quantify that difference)
    There is a way to quantify the angle in leg press and the force on the leg with mechanics.
    A 35 degree leg press is 57.54% of a vertical leg press in terms of the force on the legs.
    While a 45 degree leg press is 70.71% of a vertical leg press.
    So 2300 pounds at 57.54% is 1,319 pounds vertically.

It sounds like he had a ton of warning signs and was too stubborn for his own good. Him being so insanely juiced was a huge part of this as well. He would have naturally been a big strong guy, but the amount of stuff he was taking would have allowed him to handle weight that was dangerous to the health of his connective tissue. @@JamesStreet-tp1vb The guy had an insane work ethic for sure, loved training crazy as hell but was too stubborn and not very intelligent with his training, as I mentioned. A lot of these top guys in the iron game have a huge passion for it, whether that be powerlifting or strongman or bodybuilding, and many honestly have huge egos. There's often not much consideration put into actual health or longevity, though this is also a very common mindset you will see with other top athletes and even with people in careers with high demands.
      Tons of young men in their teens and twenties that get into the gym game usually gain inspiration from watching Ronnie's old training videos or they follow guys like Sam Sulek or these other influencers. These young guys don't know wth they are doing and start emulating what they see. There's no reason for some 21 year old kid at the gym to be training like that and destroying his body in the process. I'm 34 and been in the gym game since I was 16, it's something I've seen countless times over the years. One big reason why you don't see too many very strong and fit guys close to 30 at the gym, let alone past this age range, is because many end up injured. I met a guy at the gym a year ago around my age that was literally bragging to me about how he blew his knee out squatting lol, literally needed a knee replacement. I knew another guy around my age back in 2019 that ego lifted like crazy on deadlifts and squats that ended up getting some sort of SI joint/hip injury that forced him out of lifting.
      As for Ronnie's physique. Honestly, most people look at guys like Ronnie and these other IFBB pros and they don't see it as attractive. Instead, it's more like a freak or circus show to them, it's impressive and unusual to them but not something they would aspire to. Outside of the bodybuilding world, this is how the overwhelming majority of people would view these physiques. The amount of dedication that goes into it is very impressive though, it's literally a life commitment.

    Mariusz was never a static weight champion like the ones in the movie. You could say that was his biggest weakness. His biggest advantage was the combination of strength and dynamics. That's why he was successful in MMA after his strongman career ended. With all due respect to Ronnie, he had no chance in strength sports with Mariusz. But that's not surprising since he trained in a different sport. On the other hand, Mariusz is a five-time Strongman world champion.

    The strong man competitions are so diffident level than the gym. I’ve tried this many time and laughed at my “lack of success”: try alternate standing dumbbell curls with 40 pounders. No problem can do multiple reps as I’m sure any of you guys can. Then from the store , I’ll carry in each hand an 18-litre water cooler jug which are also 40 pounds a piece. Try curling them. Same weight. I can’t get one! Just that awkward, non-conventional object makes incredible difference. If anyone can get couple of decent reps using those coolers…let me know👍

    Also, comparing a strength athlete against a bodybuilder in "strength only" lifts is a bit biased imo. Especially when the bodybuilder won a couple if the events 🤷🤷

      "Claiming X out from the Olympia" is a fact. I agree these are his best ever lifts and his PED cycle was at it's peak during this time, in fact Ronnie has stated that he didn't use PED's in the off season (I doubt this 100% accurate). However if Ronnie trained for Powerlifting or Strongman he would have carried considerably higher BF. He also would have run an appropriate cycle so he would have absolutely been stronger had that been the direction he'd chosen. My only apprehension is whether his body couldn't have handled it and given his current condition from decades of BB and think not.

    So now where going by “Claims” of what that person says. I believe several of these lifts were exaggerated by Marius. He never benched 639. I can almost guarantee it. Look at what Thor and Brian Shaw Max bench is, Thors around 540-560 and Brian‘s around 585 I believe. Ronnie said he could have squated 5-6 reps that day but stopped at 2. So that would give him max of 900-930 for a single. Brian Shaw in an interview and he said Marius wasn’t know as the strongest in the static lifts but excelled in the athletic events. So with all this being said, I’m pretty sure Ronnie definitely has Marius beat in the bench and squat. The dead lift is the only thing that I believe. Marius would probably beat him in. Shows how strong Coleman was that he was stronger in most static lifts than the top strongman which was Marius in that era.
