Shout-out to swordmankirby for the time he spent an hour talking to me about a category in Kirby Super Star Ultra that he doesn't really care about but tried to help me with anyway.
Hope you all enjoyed this run! This was my first GDQ ever, and I was honored to be invited onto the couch to help commentate such an awesome marathon run. Congrats again to swordsmankirby on a job well done!
All the "feed Kirby" comments from donation comments ticked with me since I'm sitting here sick killing time, so I watched it again and tracked everything Kirby ate in the run *I only counted enemies Kirby actually swallowed *I didn't count stars or crystal shards (the stars might be some kind of food/medicine though as gaining enough gives Kirby a 1up) *I do NOT know official enemy names and didn't feel like looking them up, so I just did basic descriptions that should be fairly obvious to anyone who just watched the run * * * Enemies swallowed (and certain boss attacks eaten): Living Fireball x9 Firebird x1 Stone Stack x2 Rocketman x1 Ice "droplet" x1 Spark Box x1 Bomberman x1 Bomb fish x1 Penguin x1 (really kirby, the penguin??) One of the best GDQ runs i've seen. major props to swordsman and the couch for keeping things very entertaining but interesting, and props to GDQ chat for being surprisingly wholesome during it! poyo
God I loved this game so much as a kid. In my 20’s now and I kept my old 64 with my favorite classics and this is one of them. Never beat it as a kid and didn’t revisit it later on so I’m glad to see it on GDQ. Thank you guys! 💞
I'm sad they didn't show off that you can hold some enemies above you and have them do neat things. The...anemone? enemies will shoot their pellets! Granted, that's horrendously slow, but still! Edit: FIIIIIISH
At 29:28 It is possible to get that shard using the bird instead of rick. As a kid i never knew rick could climb the wall so iv always used the bird not sure if its faster but it is possible.
“This stage is really happy” Meanwhile shiver Star is frozen over post apocalyptic earth and basically all of humanity was either killed by the robot or abandoned earth.
Sad to see they never used Ice/Spike, which is probably my favorite power in the game. I always used it to just slowly float through the underwater current levels, taking in the scenery while practically invulnerable. Like a giant (literal) snowflake. Great for bosses too for its massive hitbox and ability to stunlock most things. Not very conducive to speedruns though
37:00 Ahh, the dynomite power, I remember as a kid I didn't know you could duck to put on a hardhat. My outrage at it at least helped me understand that required damage is bad game design.
13 minutes in, and he's about as far as I remember ever getting in the game. Then again, I probably played the first 5-6 levels a billion times, so that might be why I remember them better than later levels. Oh wait, no, I remember that fucking Magman guy. I remember getting stuck on him and rage quitting.
37:15 "neither stone nor bomb appears in this level" -- well, technically, they do *appear*, but it's on that minecart section so you can't obtain them.
Yes, there are, but not in the way Kirby 64 did it. In Star Allies on the Switch you can give elemental effects to weapon based abilities, like a fire sword or an ice hammer. Also the Curling Kirby from 64 is back by combining Stone with ice or water. There are also a few other combo effects. There was also an other Kirby game that did something like that, but I don't remember wich one, because I didn't play it yet. Either Amazing Mirror or Mouse Attack/Squeak Squad.
The only ones that involve combining powers are squeak squad (although you can only combine a few and the game is kind of lackluster in other areas) and Star Allies (Star Allies is good, but the ability combining isn't exactly the same as Crystal Shards) if I remember correctly
Actually, as far as I am aware, this is the only Kirby game to ever mix abilities, which is kind of surprising considering how interesting of a gimmick it is. Some Kirby games have done some stuff similar to the mix abilities, such as the animal partners of Kirby's Dream Land 3, but 64 is the only one to use this specific system. Sorry for the long answer by the way lol
*TECHNICALLY* Squeak squad allows you to... but only with two different powers with elements. Kirby Star Allies allows you to combine weapons with elements as well, but a whole lot of weapons can be combined with elements

the let kirby eat craze was real tho
The best part of this game is when kirby rips his face off and throws it at his enemies.
All the "feed Kirby" comments from donation comments ticked with me since I'm sitting here sick killing time, so I watched it again and tracked everything Kirby ate in the run
*I only counted enemies Kirby actually swallowed
*I didn't count stars or crystal shards (the stars might be some kind of food/medicine though as gaining enough gives Kirby a 1up)

Is that a gurren lagan reference
@@jojoreference3681 a lot late, but yes, that was a gurren lagan ref at the end
Hahaha, best comment ever.

i loved this game, kirby needs to bring back "fusion power"
They actually did it in the last one. Tho it's not as advanced as we'd like, at least it's coming back, so we can expect more on future episodes !
Advanced Fusion powers would be dope!
If you really love the idea of combining copy abilities, check out Copy Kitty on steam!
The level backgrounds for this game is actually gorgeous! It's amazing to see how much detail they managed to squeeze in the N64
For real! The background in Kirby 64 are so vibrant and detailed. I love the low poly aesthetic in this game! 💎
Kirby 64 is one of my favorite Kirby games. I enjoy seeing it speedrun
God I loved this game so much as a kid. In my 20’s now and I kept my old 64 with my favorite classics and this is one of them. Never beat it as a kid and didn’t revisit it later on so I’m glad to see it on GDQ. Thank you guys! 💞

This is my first favorite game. Love the music and care free vibes ~
Wait, you can use the drill downward?! I've played this game dozens of times over like 12 years, and I never knew that!
Love this run!
What a great run and I love all the new strats! That Miracle Matter theme is still slapping.
I've never seen 02 being one-cycled! Then again I usually stalled the fight to listen to his amazing theme
swordmankirby seems like such a humble and kind guy. Really cool to see the best side of the speedrunning community. Great video and great run.

i shouldve seen a 1, 2, Oatmeal comment coming while watching kirby runs.
It absolutely killed me when they all waved there arms during the second boss
that stage before miracle matter and o2 fight was fricken awesome.
Oh man this game brings back so many good memories. This was one of my favorite game and I would spend hours playing it.
I think I still have my cartridge laying around somewhere. Gotta love Kirby :)
1:13:32 I was waiting for 15 minutes after donating to hear that message, and it was worth it!
I loved this game. One of my favorite N64 titles, honestly.
At 29:28 It is possible to get that shard using the bird instead of rick. As a kid i never knew rick could climb the wall so iv always used the bird not sure if its faster but it is possible.
Same. I thought you could only get it with the bird.
It helps if you've played dreamland 2 or 3 before this and know that rick could do that. Unfortunately I played 64 before those two.
Na cuz the bird gets tired of floating
“This stage is really happy”
Meanwhile shiver Star is frozen over post apocalyptic earth and basically all of humanity was either killed by the robot or abandoned earth.
great run and very entertaining seeing this game played at a high level!
Wth, is shiver star earth? I never noticed as a kid, but north and south America are clearly visible, and there's an orbiting moon.
Hey! Treat Kirby with Respect and give him some food at the end of the levels!
Sad to see they never used Ice/Spike, which is probably my favorite power in the game. I always used it to just slowly float through the underwater current levels, taking in the scenery while practically invulnerable. Like a giant (literal) snowflake. Only Kirby game I ever played and loved it a lot. Great to see it ran. ^_^
THIS game needs a remake/sequel/expansion.
Kirby 64 is a classic
My first Kirby game. I miss my old cartridge :(
The hard hat is my favourite part of this whole game
Those last few levels were super clean. GG!
37:00 Ahh, the dynomite power, I remember as a kid I didn't know you could duck to put on a hardhat.
My outrage at it at least helped me understand that required damage is bad game design.

19:36 LMAO
i wish they make kirby games like this again. its so nostalgic seeing run
I'd love to see this being remade
I just enjoy kirby64
I honestly think this game has better maps than star allies.
37:15 "neither stone nor bomb appears in this level" -- well, technically, they do *appear*, but it's on that minecart section so you can't obtain them.
1:06:52 Don't you mean Kirboy Bebob?
1:07:58 that short synch with the music tho
Looks like Waddle Dee definitely loves eating onigiris!
Kirby got to eat ;_;
Let's go
This is 100% what about the cards
Why is kirby crying in the thumbnail
:( 😭
I love this game but have actually never really played any other Kirby game! Are there any other ones that involve combining powers like this one?

boring game, cool speedrun
