    Please keep continue making these videos, they are so informative and makes me play and understand the character way better.

      Absolutely.
      I have two heroes left from S2. And the SvK box are on my agenda for 2024. Going into 2025 I want to finish up MDT, then breakdown the new heroes when they release.
      At least... That's the plan. 🤞

      @@TheBuildPhase pretty dang good! Keith let me do a cross over set and put some Legacy's Allure characters into system gate, so that was fun!

    I remember one of my favorite games with Pally was when I kept activating Mighty Prayer and alternating between Right Combat and Holy Attack. They didn’t get to activate their defense once.

      That's the dream! I haven't lived it. But I'm super happy to hear someone has.
      Maybe someday the dice will like me enough. Hehehe.

    Another excellent analysis. The Paladin is one of my favorite character, but I still learned a lot, and realized some subtleties I had missed.

    You actually *can* use Crit gained from Rightous Prayer on itself. It's an attack modifier, which can be used even after the defense roll is made. The way this is worded is so that you can use a Crit you already have before gaining this new one.
    The only reason Monk can't do this is because Chi specifically can't be used offensively the turn they are gained.

    • @TheBuildPhase
      @TheBuildPhase  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh absolutely. You do have to already have a Crit. The point I was trying to make was that you can't use the RP crit immediately. It's got to wait a turn cycle.
      You're totally correct that RP can be buffed with Crit.

    • @dyciefisk2535
      @dyciefisk2535 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheBuildPhase -And the point I was trying to make is that you don't have to wait a turn cycle, nothing is preventing it from being used on this attack.-
      -You attack for 8, then you gain Crit and 2CP. That 8 damage is now sitting there, able to be modified by anything right up until the end of the roll phase. You can even wait until after the opponent has rolled their defense to apply it. The difference in whether the attack is the first or last thing on the ability doesn't really matter when the window for applying it is so large.-
      Edit: Before I make a bigger fool of myself I just checked to see if there was anything I was missing, and sure enough "Then" when in regards to damage worked differently then I thought. I thought that putting the 8 damage on the stack *was* resolving that part of the ability.

    Man I love your reviews. Paladin is one of those characters like Huntress where I'll whiff and feel like I'm losing and then somehow still win anyways. I don't think you mentioned it specifically but I would recommend if you're playing against Paladin to keep status effect removal like What Status Effects and Buh Bye because his tokens are so strong, you will almost always be able to find something worth getting rid of.

    • @TheBuildPhase
      @TheBuildPhase  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a really good point. I should have leaned into it more. I know I mentioned Retaliate isn't worth hitting with SE removal. But the other side of that is saying it should be saved for crit and acc.
      Good catch!

    Love your vids! Keep them up! Question though… you use terms like pamphlet (for leaflet), coins (for CP), and purse (for CP dial)-are these common DT community terms or are you using your own terms/terms from other games?

    • @TheBuildPhase
      @TheBuildPhase  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The pamphlet/leaflet one, I honestly cannot explain. I'm not sure where that came from.
      Using "coin" is intentional. For several reasons.
      I like the flavor of it. Coins in my coin purse which I then club you with (as Shadow Theif). Wonderful imagery.
      I also tend to use the term "coin" generically when playing board games to refer to whatever that games currency is. This is a habit my regular Friday night group has had for at least 8 years. I'm not sure where it came from, but we all do it.
      One of my very few criticisms of the game is the term "combat points." It's generic and forgettable. I wish was somthing with some flavor. Grit. Endurance. Stamina. I don't know the right answer. But I have always felt like "combat points" is just a little bland as a game term.
      There's also the uncomfortable fact that CP sometimes means something other than Combat Points on the internet. Which I dont even like mentioning.
      I will also admit that when I play tcg games, I tend to call turning the card sideways "tapping" even when it's called "exhausting" in the game I'm playing. So some jargon bleed between games is also just how my brain works. I do try to keep it in check. Too much jargon makes the content harder for people to understand. But I do acknowledge I have that tendency to occasionally use the wrong labels for stuff.

      @@TheBuildPhase Gotcha. Yeah, we have some “us-only” terms of our table too. Anyway, don’t change anything for me, I was just curious. And yeah, Combat Points… a little boring.

    Very good analysis. From a super Paladin player, it is great to see other people getting into him and seeing what he's like. He's my favorite since the original.
    If you don't mind me asking, how do we compare him to Gambit?

    • @TheBuildPhase
      @TheBuildPhase  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I'm a little cautious to make this comparison. I need to play a lot more with Gambit.
      But as a, don't hold me to this, knee jerk, back of the envelope, surface level comparison.
      Paladin is kinda like a tank.
      Gambit is kinda like a damage dealer.
      So, in my very early and unsettled opinion, I would say the two heroes appear to have very different goals and play patterns.
      But ask me again when my XDT gets here and I can be both more confident and accurate.

      The "draw a card when you hit the life leader" rule in DT koth seems like it was crafted to punish a hero like Paladin.
      His whole deal is maintaining a high life total. In koth, that means he's the target of way more than his fair share of attacks.
      You're right.
      Maybe I should do a koth analysis for each hero after I finish the 1v1 analysis. Hehhe.
