I'm speaking with the Devs now about putting in an alignment mode 👍
The delay I have been told by the guys is because they currently have mine capturing all the diagnostics when it releases they will turn that off and it won't have a delay! I'll hopefully show it in an upcoming video 👍👍
Further background checks indicate that the Open Launch Nova is a launch monitor developed by Open Launch, a company based in Dallas, Texas. While the Optishot Nova is produced by Optishot which is situated in Michigan. Despite the similarities in the name Nova for the respective launch monitors the two organization do not appear to be related. The Optishot Nova utilizes a high-speed camera and infrared sensors to provide data measurements and can be used both on and offline. While the Open Launch Nova uses high-speed camera and radar to produce measurements and is required to have internet service only. From Joe’s video it appears that the Open Launch Nova will be a new innovative type of launch monitor which will likely greatly improve simulator golf.
Yeah I think it's genius and really hope it works for them 👍 it just means making changes and implementing different games and challenges is super quick to do.
Before I clicked the link in the description I was very confused because Optishot sells an LM called the Nova for $1,750 but its a floor based unit that sits behind the ball along the target line.
It is confusing. There are two completely different LMs. Nova by Optishot and Nova by Openlaunch. Nova by Optishot is very similar to the MLM2PRO but it supports putting. There is very little information out there about it even after months. The bits on Reddit say it's Beta software and it needed Optishot remote access to get it working. Support putting, marked balls (Pix). Nova by Openlaunch is what Joe is reviewing here.
Hahahaha yes! Lol he said he had to mute his discord messages there for a while. This community it amazing. I wouldn't have it in the to if it wasn't for all you guys. 🙏
Good news apparently it only has this due to the dev capturing all the diagnostics at the moment to gather data. Apparently it won't have this for long 👍👍
Agreed, the square is hard to beat right now. That being said this is a great looking LM with some cool features. I’ll say the delay on the chip shots is really a turn off, I’m sure that’ll get patch later. But coming from the square that’s a hard thing to swallow:
The square is fantastic device and price point as is this unit. What's exciting is all the new launch monitors coming out. Ultimately it's just going to drive competition and these launch monitors are just going to get better and better and also cheaper! 👍👍
The square is my first launch monitor. There are issues. Spin definitely, having to use their dotted balls which are not good. Myself i just want hit balls over winter, get feedback. £1500 is good pricing strategy, places it well in current market. Look forward to full review.
It uses your wifi and connects to their web browser portal so yes you can connect it to an iPad but in this mode at the moment it's very basic so you would see the data from your shot. The guys are working on having a lot of games and game improvement things on there web portal in the future.
Thanks mate! Yes I will be comparing this to then one way or another.. if there is interference I'll do multiple sets back to back and it will give a really good idea if there are any issues.
With options available that will allow both left and right handed players to enjoy playing together, what advantage does a single side system bring in 2024? I really dont understand why companies put any effort into a single side system.
Both are great units the Nova is slightly more expensive so that's something to think about. The Nova just requires ball marking and not the official marked balls. Honestly this segment is going to get better and better.
Wow amazing community we have hats off to the creators! It was interesting that the shit delay was non existent with full shots maybe just taking a bit longer to read chips
Yes it's just due to the Devs capturing all the diagnostics and data. They said at the moment they want to capture everything so they can refine and make sure everything is working. In the future the shot delay will be minimal when they turn that off
Indoor use only. A few guys use them with their garage doors open but it hasn't really been tested under a porch or in a back yard for instance. They don't recommend doing that.
I have the Optishot Nova. The unit however sits 6' behind the ball and is completely different in design. The Optishot Nova came with 36 golf courses and is not designed to connect to third party golf courses, like GSPro. This Optishot Nova is also has photo metric unit. I can play simulated golf games offline with putting capability and the unit has instant shot display. Some of the displays on the screen shown in this video are similar to those of the Optishot Nova. There is no question that the Optishot Nova is one of the best lauch monitors I have seen or reviewed. It comes with free golf courses and has some of best video game displays available with putting and instant shot display.
This is an indoor unit only. But in that specific use case scenario I'm not sure I will reach out to the guys and try and provide feedback in the more detailed review.
Looks good, but still an issue with right and left golfers. I wish someone could do this same type on monitor that lays down in the middle of the hitting strip and would automatically know a righty from a lefty once the ball is placed down. No hassle with moving it, just leave it down. Good video though!
This device does that as the low profile allows left handed users to just hit over it.. essentially using it as an alignment stick. They have people using it like that now 👍👍
I hope some of these community offerings will be made available in Turkey when they are ready - looking like an exciting couple of years for the market.
I am the target market! Want for family use with left & right handers and don’t have ceiling height for overhead unit. Considered mevo+ & mlm2pro but putting would be nice. This sounds perfect! Thanks for showing it
Yeah it really could be a fantastic device for you mate. The low profile allows you to hit over it as well so left and right handed golfers can use it without moving it.
The square is a fantastic device! As is this one. It's fantastic to see this end of the market really get some competition and some different offerings. Competition will ultimately give us better units in the long run.
Yes! I have been told by the Devs that this is because of the amount of data it's capturing and reporting back to them. It will not be there in the production units!
I think the "lights" are clumsy, wouldn't a hand held changer ( like what SG uses) be easier ( and cheaper to make) to handle the screen movements? Using a broser tab for my data instead of an excel file is not for me. + it lacks lots of GSPro data fields ie club #'s etc.
Did I miss how much this will cost? Honestly; I’ll try not to sound negative here, this doesn’t do much to really get me excited. Other than the club hovering which acts a little like a control box, I’m not seeing anything different from other LM’s whether floor or overhead models. They all need some third part connector to connect to GSPro and most are now integrated and not hard to connect. Skytrak was always a pain as I played with a guy online who had one. But Uneekor, foresight, protee and others work fine. I guess I’ll be able to decide once I know price. Because you can grab a Uneekor eye mini kite for under 2k right now I believe and it works great. Or an overhead like qed which is not expensive anymore. I look forward to hearing more but I think they solved for their skytrak issues which had already been solved. But maybe I’m wrong.
The price will be $1500 USD and has no subscription fees 👍 they are going to have a subscription fee if you want to have previous data to look at. so essentially a could server fee. They have a lot of plans for this device. They are going to implement a lot of tools and games to be able to measure and track your improvement. I'm going to do an interview style playing video with the guys some time after the new year and hopefully that video will answer a lot of questions people have. 👍👍
@@JLagGOLF Thanks. Price is pretty good if they can actually get some club data. It does look bulky for moving between LH and RH though. Would love to see you test this with a lefty and see if they can be on other side without moving. Would be annoying but easier than moving.
Yeah club metrics are hard to get right.. at the end of the day for playing golf at home and enjoying it really club metrics aren't needed they are a luxury but they are very nice to have 😂. They are going to do club speed but haven't released it yet as they really want to get it right. And the plan is to have a speed training mode as well! With actual speed training plans as well that track your progress.
Seriously exciting times man... So many new exciting launch monitors coming out! This one is going to keep getting better and better. The Devs have some really interesting things they want to do with it to actually help people improve their game using their launch monitor
@ what a time to be alive! And with the cheaper and cheaper prices they are coming out with, how can people not buy them? Who really wants to spend upwards of 20K on high end LMs if these others do the same things or at least close to them? It’s a no brainer, and these guys are honorable for not charging an arm and a leg for the LM🫡
The gc3 is a fantastic unit mate. It's a well established brand that isn't going to have any teething issues. You are straight in playing golf and have a unit that isn't going to misread or leave you questioning it.
@ I agree, and for the record I’m not mad about the purchase. However I think I would have seriously considered the Nova at $1500 and “grew into” a Quad but it is what is it. Glad they are making new launch monitors at price points that are more affordable to the guys with R10’s MEVO’s and Skytracks of old so we get people putting and less misreads in GSPro
@@BStrick8185Absolutely mate this device is going to be massive to a lot of people and it's going to keep pushing the boundaries for companies and really drive that competition. Exciting times!
You will see in time.. the price of $1500 is a massive start. Ease of use is another massive one.. and some of the features and functions that they are going to add to it. I'll be showing them off soon. This is more than just a golf launch monitor. Can't wait to show off why! 👍👍
@@JLagGOLFI'm not sure if you mentioned it but it's designed for Left and Right hand use. Left handers play over it like it's an alignment stick. Assumes you have a central hitting strip.
🤣🤣 trying to give as much information as I can so it limits the questions in the comments section. Feel free to skip the parts you don't want to watch 👍
Why are you rethink everything after testing this LM? Click bait? it is slow. it looks cheap. if you have lefty and righty you have to change?! a 3 person development team? sorry, but you made a lot of better videos.
I will be showing off some of the features when they pop up. It is going to have a lot of games and tools to really help you improve your golf. Lefty and rights modes will be available and because of the profile being so low you will be able to stand over the unit if you're lefty. The touch bar on top is genius and you will be able to customise these functions in the future. The price being 1500 USD. This home golf simulator launch monitors are rapidly changing and evolving.. no longer do you need to get a tens of thousands of dollars launch monitor with subscription fees. Bringing simulator golf and other things to the masses in a new form factor that is functional. Exciting times and I'm really proud to be the one to show it off now and in the future when it really shows what it can do. The delay right now if due to data capture I've been told by the Devs and won't be like that for the final release.
Speaking to the Devs they have a lot of ideas with using this to improve in your Sim by implementing a lot of different games and skills tests. I think this is really going to grow into something really great.
So does it come with courses ready to play? Is it Apple and android ready? You usually do not get this excited. I still have not bought unit yet. Extra fees that can go up do not excite me. May go Rapsodo until saw this!
This is designed to be used with 3rd party software like GS Pro and TGC2019. They also have a web interface that will have games and gam improvement challenges on there. I am excited about this device after speaking with the developers with the plans they have for it in the future. Also I've been saying for years we just need a device that's a photometric based unit like a gc2 with no subscription fees.. what's exciting is that now we are starting to see these devices being made by the community. It's a super exciting time for Sim users.
Thanks for the info. Watched chipping today. I'm sure course play is next. Gave up on installing SIM but I will continue to watch and see where this goes. Please list tee to screen distance you are using and does unit have distance recommended? @@JLagGOLF

Leave the unit in place and he can hit over it 👍👍 They have lefties testing that now
Hey Joe, great video with good info. I never heard cost, has Nova not released that info yet?
It will be $1500 USD! I wasn't sure I could release that yet but I am allowed to 👍👍
@ Nice. Thank you
At first I thought this was the optishot nova lol. Good price but disappointing it doesn’t do real club metrics.
With actual speed training plans as well that track your progress.
no club data? no in and out
No club data
They are working on club speed at this stage. No other club data at this point in time
SOLD!!!!!!
I wish I would have saw this 5 months ago before I bought the GC3 for $6k
But what makes this unit so special? No Club Data, Delay on every Shot, Market Balls needed... and i think the control functions are not so important.
@@philtrick123Absolutely I did forget to mention this! Thanks 👍👍
drag things out much??
🤣🤣 trying to give as much information as I can so it limits the questions in the comments section. Feel free to skip the parts you don't want to watch 👍
So much waffling. Ffs. 10 minutes and I gave up.
😂😂 sorry mate hit the fast forward button. There was a lot of information to talk about
Why are you rethink everything after testing this LM? Click bait? it is slow. it looks cheap. if you have lefty and righty you have to change?! a 3 person development team? sorry, but you made a lot of better videos.
Yeah lefties just hit over it i bet!
@@tjy698Yep absolutely 👍
Seems very gimmick
@@JLagGOLF
