Sorry that my comment on 1952 Vincent Black Lightning included a suggestion. I have no suggestion on this, you absolutely make this performance amazing and you're seeing is perfect.
The tune is 'My Love Nell, the Irish song is this one and the English is 'Dives and Lazarus' which Vaughn Williams composed his variation on (he collected old tunes and songs as did Cecil Sharpe et al). Recycling is not new !!!
Greetings from Dublin, Ireland 🇮🇪. I hope you're keeping well, mo chara. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Well done. You no doubt have a great passion for our music & song. They seem to give you great enjoyment & as an Irishman & performer I want to thank you for "flyin' the flag"...We're humbled you choose to perform them. Is it ok to ask where in the World 🌎 you call home??
Thanks, Alan! I'm in the US, but I grew up with a real love of Irish music, so I'm delighted to have done it justice in the eyes of an Irishman! Thank you for listening!
Really enjoying your songs Colleen keep up the good work don't ever stop . From a 5 sting banjo player Thank you for keeping the songs of our native land alive Greetings from Dublin
I love this!! Your voice is gorgeous! This song has always had a special place in my heart because I grew up with my mom playing it on the flute, so I always love to hear different arrangements of it!
Keep up the great work, well sung and played and you're clearly having fun with it! The banjo and the key you play it in really suit your voice well - I really think those arrangement choices are underrated, they really are the difference between a song sounding alive and dead sometimes!
Thank you! This is a cheap Fender Rustler that I got as a Musician's Friend Stupid Deal of the Day, years ago. I want to say it was tops 130 bucks. I just got a Deering Goodtime and Deering is a pretty respected brand. There's some fret buzz I got fixed, but I really like the tone itself. The really nice banjos are thousands of dollars, but I find that I'm happy with what I have and it’s never stopped me from enjoying playing music. I really like my Deering but I had fun playing the Rustler. Hope that helps!
Most likely in G. Far as I know in all the Celtic trad tunes the banjo is tuned to G. That means the drone top string is g. I have a music book by a trad celtic banjo guy for 5 string and it's all set in G tuning. Then you are set to play with the fiddles....or should I say, then they're all set to play with you!
@@rattyfingers8621 You are correct, it is G tuning, however I played banjo in an irish folk group for many years, where I learned to play with the same tuning except the bass string was an A, my contemporaries all seemed to use the same tuning, recently I have started to learn bluegrass which I find easier in standard G tuning. ( just small adjustments to chord shapes)
Hi Chris, the comments below are correct. I'm in standard G tuning here and the main chords I'm switching between are Am, G, F, and C, starting on Am. With a capo on the second fret.
I should add, that when in open G, capo the 2nd fret to get in A. Then the top drone string needs to go up to A, its risky and much easier to have a "railroad spike" at the 5th fret and of course that's what you slide the 5th string under to get A without risk of snapping the 5th.
I just discovered your channel today. It is amazing how you picked all the RIGHT songs to play.
Thank you so much, I'm so glad you enjoyed my music! Thank you for listening!
Gosh your voice is so beautiful. Don't listen to the critics on your speed of playing, just play what your heart tells you.
Beautifully done!!!!
Hi Mary, would you consider uploading this to Spotify? I see you have a few other songs on there but I really like this!
I have enjoyed your work over the years. It is very genuine. Thank you for it!

Awesome, I’m learning this on the bagpipes..

Wonderful rendition, what tuning does that happen to be in?
Thank you, Jeremy! I'm playing in stand G tuning, the main chords being Am, F, G, and C. Capo on the second fret.
@@MaryWinterroth super helpful to know, thank you so much :)

Well sung, with a nice bounce. Perhaps a little fast pased.
Bob Emmerson thanks! I know, I do tend to play things a little fast.
Good pase. :)
davoburke thanks!

You are a badass girl
Are you on Spotify?
how is your banjo tuned for this ? open g ?
Yup, open G! Capo on the second fret.
