Because at the end of day the Irish are the backbone of most of the modern world. Many things got done through the blood sweat and tear's of the Irish. Your a tough proud group and I love ya for it
My absolute favorite version of this song 💚 I love the change in tempo from a jig to a reel. So much fun to sing, listen and dance too. It makes my little Irish heart happy 🥰
I've heard this instrumentally and always much slower. This version makes my feet start to stomping. I love the timing change around the 1:05 mark. SO glad I can claim I'm 1/4 Irish descent.
That'd be the voice of Martin Furey, son of the great FINBAR Furey and nephew to George, Eddie and the late Paul Furey. Grandson to the late Nora and Ted Furey too.
Some guy on the train played this on his guitar a few years back and I got so excited, my friend thought that I was crazy (again). My friends will never understand my music choice.
I had a date with an irish guy today, not sure about the date but I remembered this song!!! It's been almost 10 years since I last listened to this ❤️❤️❤️
Alec MácCnáimhín Strangely enough I'm not even Irish. A bit of Scottish I believe, but still--I think I should've been part Irish--I love the music too much lol.
***** If I'm lucky I'll be staying in Ireland next year for the month of January, for a school trip! I tried for it this year but didn't get it. It sounds like a fantastic time over there though. And actually just for the hell of it I've been learning Irish/Gaelic (or I suppose, Gaelige) lately. I don't know much yet lol. However I believe if you were going to reenact a certain scene from Lord of the Rings, you could tear off a helmet (or a hat) and dramatically cry "Ní fear mé!" ;)
I agree when i went to Shannon for the music festival in Ireland i heard this song played a lot, it was rarely played as a funeral song, its a love song that's meant to be joyful not depressing.
For most of my life 1) I didn't know there were words 2) I danced to a version of this done as a waltz (it's beautiful). Once I heard it up tempo and with words I have become obsessed.
Near Banbridge town, in the County Down One evening last July Down a bóithrín green came a sweet cailín And she smiled as she passed me by. She looked so neat in her two bare feet To the sheen of her nut-brown hair Such a coaxing elf, I'd to shake myself To make sure I was standing there. From Bantry Bay down to Derry Quay From Galway to Dublin town No maid I've seen like the fair cailín That I met in the County Down. As she onward sped I shook my head And I gazed with a feeling queer And I said, says I, to a passerby "Who's your one with the nut-brown hair?" He smiled at me, and with pride says he, "She's the gem of old Ireland's crown. Young Rosie McCann from the banks of the Bann And the star of the County Down." From Bantry Bay down to Derry Quay From Galway to Dublin town No maid I've seen like the fair cailín That I met in the County Down. She'd a soft brown eye and a look so sly and a smile like the rose in June And you held each note from her auburn throat, as she lilted lamenting tunes At the pattern dance you'd be in trance as she skipped through a jig or reel When her eyes she'd roll, as she'd lift soul And your heart she would likely steal From Bantry Bay down to Derry Quay From Galway to Dublin town No maid I've seen like the fair cailín That I met in the County Down. At the harvest fair she'll be surely there and I'll dress my Sunday clothes With my hat cocked right and my shoes shon bright for a smile from the nut-brown Rose No horse I'll yoke, or pipe I smoke, 'til the rust in my plough turn brown And a smiling bride by my own fireside sits the star of the County Down From Bantry Bay down to Derry Quay From Galway to Dublin town No maid I've seen like the fair cailín That I met in the County Down. Well, it just stays with the fast tempo of the chorus throughout the entire song. But this is only how they do live, their recorded version is like the one you know and love. I like this way better for live situations, because it really makes you want to dance and have a good time.
I personally like the "tempo de firetruck" a lot better to be honest. Gives it a very nice kind of feeling. Also being able to learn the lyrics and sing them this fast is damn awesome.
I like their album version where they start at a slow tempo, speed up for the harvest fair verse and then slow it back down. I imagine a tempo change like that would be murder in a live performance.
Charlie Gallagher I do like the album version as well for that reason (the dynamics), however I love this version as well; I like Celtic rock and this is, at least from what I've heard, the closest thing to being like a rock version of the song lol; but I have no joke like 7 versions of this song from slow, beautiful, and in the 3rd person to roarin' fast and foot slammin' (this one). lol
Charlie Gallagher your right, Charlie. They were alot slower on the album, but their tempos actually vary more in this version over the other. the album could be set to a click track, while the live version would be nearly impossible to.
+hunter trammell A Scotsman is only an Irishman what could swim and is yet unaware he is on another Island. Although there have been recent studies showing the Scots have as much link to Vikings as Celts. But the music is foot tapping fun
With the quality tracks they record and perform, I think they should be much better known out of Ireland ! Marketing perhaps , more Galway girl and Maggie type pop folk which are great! Mind writing great new songs is not easy!
I'm partial to the CD version-it just seems to have a little more...I dunno, sincerity in the lyrics, besides just saying them fast.I also liked the more distinguishable musical formatting (piano vs forte parts, etc). I do like the energy in the live version here though! It's good to have both this and the CD version available! :)
@spamman12123 I felt the same way when i first heard them, sadly the first irish song i heard wasn't from the high kings, it was the orthodox celts version of this same song (they suck though) The first song i heard by this band was rocky road to dublin (which i know start to finish) I trully hope that they continue to bring happiness to all who listen to them Pirate, Assassin, Gentleman Basterd, Ezio Auditore de Firenze at your service
This is probably my favourite version of this song.
I feel irish coming out of me
Italianmobster haha happy to hear it man!
Italianmobster a chi lo dici :-D io vorrei essere nato irlandese solo per suonare e cantare questi capolavori
Soldier of Ireland the Rovers have a decent one as well.
Yeah, good, old irish song. One thing - lead vocal is weak.
I'm not even Irish and I listen to this one the daily. Ever since 2011 I've listened to them
Ha ha really? Where you live? It’s uplifting! Happy day to you
aye well you don't have a need to be irish to enjoy our music lass
Same!
That’s good idea 💡 I need more upbeat fun music like this on the regular starting today
Because at the end of day the Irish are the backbone of most of the modern world. Many things got done through the blood sweat and tear's of the Irish. Your a tough proud group and I love ya for it

Me too! First time I heard this song, the Irish dancer in me squealed at the tempo change! Lol
aye there me lad same
What a true Irish voice...love this and the band :)
That'd be the voice of Martin Furey, son of the great FINBAR Furey and nephew to George, Eddie and the late Paul Furey.
Grandson to the late Nora and Ted Furey too.
Martin has majic in his singing voice, so talented💚🏴😍

Because it’s quality, there’s is most likely robots 🤖 and junk
YES!!! Same!
Your friends need better taste in music.. lol
It is possible that it was me😳😂 which train was it?😀

This song makes me wish i was Irish! best music on the planet!
I saw them in boston last year before the pandemic, best show of my damn life!!! Go see them if you have the opportunity
I've never heard of these guys until now, but I'm glad I found them.
I had a date with an irish guy today, not sure about the date but I remembered this song!!! It's been almost 10 years since I last listened to this ❤️❤️❤️
The studio recording of this is a work of art, wonderfull ,I play it on my Irish Dance nights!
This is my favorite version ever of this song!!!! I love "the Irish bit"!😄
This sure gets my foot tapping all on it's own lol.
That's the Irish coming out in you boy!
Alec MácCnáimhín Strangely enough I'm not even Irish. A bit of Scottish I believe, but still--I think I should've been part Irish--I love the music too much lol.
Andrew Penman Anyone who hears our music can't help but fall in love with it!
Alec MácCnáimhín Yeah! Except for 23 outcasts--they must be aliens. There must be something in their alien brain which denies them the awesomeness.

Their version is the best version of this song. Might have to see them live.
For most of my life 1) I didn't know there were words 2) I danced to a version of this done as a waltz (it's beautiful). Once I heard it up tempo and with words I have become obsessed.
I love how much he enjoys singing this
This music irradiates joy
The High Kings sing both of my fave song from ac4 this and parting glass!
Gosh i love this band so much! one of my fav songs off the new album! These guys get better everytime i see them!
I love this version! I grew up listening to this type of music - blame it on my Irish and Scots ancestry
Just saw this band tonight in the town of Lindsay. Stellar performance. I hope they come back!
This Is the best version of this Song. Amazing.🥰

I just did and I agree with that statement

Ironic that the tune to 'Star' and the song 'Wild Rover' are English in origin.

Are they ever coming to the baltic states? I wana see them live so much...
For a while i've been thinking of this as a japanese song.
synthmalicious is there a County Down in Japan?!! 😂😂
Man I really need to see a cool ass barfight with an assassin paired with this music.
Also this has a better beat drop than any dubstep song lmfao.
