We don’t have a shortage of people telling us that Trump is a threat to democracy.

Anyone who thinks that’s not true, might just not care about democracy.

I can't agree with you more on making this the #1 point.
Our political concerns can only be addressed *because of* democracy. Without it, we don't have any power to influence the issues that we care about.
Avoiding discussing this subject is like shooting yourself in the foot. There's an opportunity to help people understand what threats to democracy look like, what the outcomes would be. Once people understand it, there is no way that it is not going to be top of mind for them. We're not playing the same political "game" that pre-Trump era elections did. This is not comparing apples to apples, and must be treated as such. Don't treat the people like they're stupid by skimming over the reality.
The reason why I'm so passionate about this is because I have read enough history to know how significant this moment is. I think I'm amongst the minority though.
If I did not understand the historical and current-day precedent, I too would not be thinking of democracy very much. I would need somebody to lay out the reality for me. How can I make an informed decision about my vote if I do not understand the most prescient issue (for both national and personal interest) at hand?

Spot on Joe! In order to even having the option to fix anything else, we must Continue to have Democracy. Without it, we are not allowed an opinion unless it’s exactly the same as the rulers opinion. No other opinion will be considered!

      Republic -- Democracy
Almost the same thing. The people in both cases elect the people that govern.
Both are far different from a dictatorship! With a Dictatorship there are no real elections. The media and everything else is controlled by the government. Is that what you like Gary? Is having a convicted felon to control everything aspect of life for you what you want? I don’t.

" 'Democracy' is almost a 'republic.' 'Republic' sounds too much like 'Republican.' That's why I prefer 'democracy.' Pretty infantile right?"

    Threat to democracy?
I hear this question daily... they argue that we don't have a democracy or they say it's hyperbole
After they say, "we have a republic, not a democracy", I say, "The former USSR was a republic not a democracy. What we have is a republic AND a democracy. But not just any republic AND democracy, because the People's Republic of China is also a republic AND a democracy... and a dictatorship."
If you like, we can forego the semantics and just consider what it is that we do have... whatever you want to call it... Trump and many of his minions are a threat to *THAT*. They want to take away freedoms, guardrails, and undo many of the things that makes America America. They want to establish a system where they can reman in power, no matter what the voters want.
As for hyperbole, was it hyperbole when Trump asked Georgia election officials to change results? Was it hyperbole when Trump asked Wisconsin to retract their electoral college votes? Was it hyperbole when Trump entered into 7 different conspiracies to send fake electors to Congress? Was it hyperbole when Trump tried to get Mike Pence to count the fake votes or don't count and let the state legislatures decide instead of the people? Trump was not acting alone in any of these conspiracies. There were many bad actors that were working with him to change the way elections work in our system of government... by hook or by crook.
And just in case you think the Supreme Court would have stepped in, ask yourself this question. Based on the way the Supreme Court has been voting lately and the refusal of justices to recuse in clear conflicts of interest, are you sure it was just hyperbole when Trump referred to *HIS* Supreme Court justices, or when Mike Johnson referred to what his friends on the Supreme Court were going to do?
If you still question whether American democracy exists or is at risk, consider the consequences if you guess wrong.
There is a reason that Trump respects Viktor Orban. It is because Hungary is an example of a democracy failing and being taken over by an autocracy. It's a model of what Trump and the GOP want. It's what Project 2025 is really up to.

@@dvferyance See article from Milwaukee Journal Sentinel May 2nd.
However, Biden does not have a history of not accepting election results, so the only reason you mention it is because Trump does. It shouldn't even be a question, but the fact that you ask it demonstrates a level of disengenuousness that is quite telling.
Personally, not that I think Trump will get enough votes but if he did, I would think it just desserts if the Democrats reject votes on Jan 6th, for Trump on the basis of the 14th Amendment and Kamala calls for the requisite vote to "remove the disability". Do you think Trump could get 2/3 of Congress to remove the disability?
Think it's crazy idea? At least 3 federal courts have determined that Trump engaged in an insurrection and the SCotUS did not reverse those findings. SCotUS said the issue has to be resolved in Congress and that's what they would be doing.
I love irony and I can think of no better one than for Trump to be hoisted on his own petard.

@@dvferyance People are always asking me to do their homework. I do not know if there is video, but the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel published on May 2 that Biden responded in the affirmative to this direct question.
I will point out that only one Presidential candidate in history has ever declined to make this vow and do so without conditions. So, questioning this is actually disengenuous and makes it seem like you are trying to normalize this for anyone who refuses.

Any American that is still able to think on their own I believe will vote for Biden. Those who can recognize that Convicted Felon Trump constantly lies and has the least bit of respect for honesty votes Biden.
The voter that is aware that The Convicted Felon Trump is a real threat to Democracy who is Not a MAGA Republican votes for Biden. Yes, some Republicans this year will vote for Biden!
I believe we have plenty enough great people in this country to defeat the Convicted Felon Trump and they/we will most definitely defeat him!
